"Why hello gorgeous! What did I do to deserve your glorious presence?"
"Hello Seonghwa." Lila giggled as she sat down at the bar in his diner. He leaned against it and placed his head in his hand.
"You doing ok honey?"
"Yeah. I just needed to see a friendly face." She said, twisting her lips to the side as she looked down.
Seonghwa reached forward to grab her hand and squeezed it. "One super chocolaty milkshake coming right up." He tapped the counter twice before hurrying to the kitchen.
Lila smiled after him as he left and pulled out her second phone. Her new lock screen photo was illuminated and she felt like someone was squeezing her heart as her three boys smiled at her.
Wooyoung was in the front and slightly to the right, while a beaming San and Yeosang had their arms around each other in the back.
Yeosang wasn't even fully looking at the camera, but was instead glancing at San.
She unlocked the phone and sent Wooyoung a quick text, asking how things were going, before sighing and tucking the phone away.
They had been gone a month now, and Lila had never felt so alone. She was working really hard to try and stay positive, and felt she was successful most days. The article had kept her busy and she and Nate had spent a few late nights at the office putting a nice spread together.
That had been fun. Nate went to pick up food and they spread out on the floor with all their papers and pictures scattered around them. It had kept her mind off things, which is what she had needed.
But now the article was at the printers and ready to come out for their next issue. So she was in the slump where all she did was research for other articles and support the main writers.
Seonghwa returned a few minutes later carrying two milkshakes and motioned for Lila to follow him to the booth in the corner. "It's about time I take a break so I thought I'd join you." He smiled gently at her.
"Thanks." Lila said as she pulled her milkshake over to her. Seonghwa had the best shakes and they always hit the spot.
"You sure you're doing ok?" Seonghwa asked as he pulled his straw in and out of his shake.
"Yes, I'm doing ok. I miss them. All of them. It's been a long time since I've gone this long without seeing San, so that's hard enough." Lila let out a low laugh.
Seonghwa reached across the table and took her hand again. He let his thumb drift back and forth over the back of her hand. "When are they supposed to get back?"
"I don't know. They estimated filming is supposed to go about two months. But Wooyoung said they've had some difficulties with some of the routines and weather, so he's worried it will be a little longer."
"At least you guys can talk every day."
Lila hummed and squeezed his hand before playing with her own milkshake. "I just hate that it hurts so much. I'm trying so hard to stay strong so they don't worry about me. And I think I do ok most days. But I have a long weekend, so things kind of caught up to me."
"It's ok to be weak sometimes." Seonghwa said quietly. "That way others can be strong for you and hold you up. You're allowed to lean on others for support."
"I know. It's just hard for me to do. And I don't want them to feel guilty about leaving me here, you know?" She peaked up at Seonghwa and he nodded slowly in understanding. "They have more important things to focus on."
Seonghwa tightened his grip on her hand. "Don't ever think that filming is more important to them than you are. I'd be willing to bet that if you were to call them right now and ask them to come home they would."
"That's exactly my point though, Hwa. Then the movie would be ruined! And that could harm their career."
The older chuckled and shook his head. "No I think you're missing the point. I see the way he looks at you. Wooyoung would throw it all away in a heartbeat. And I'm pretty sure he's considered it a couple of times."
"But that's not what I want..." Lila said softly, staring down at the table.
And it wasn't. She knew that dancing and acting was Wooyoung's dream. He had worked so hard to get here, him and Yeosang both, for him to throw it all away. Especially for her. She wasn't that special for them to sacrifice a career for.
"Hold on honey, I'll be right back." Seonghwa said when a loud crash came from the kitchen. He pushed himself out of the booth and ran back.
Lila chuckled at the look of displeasure on his face and went back to drinking her milkshake.
Her phone went off a few minutes later and she pulled it out, her heart sinking a little when it was her normal phone. It was a text from Nate wanting to know what she was up to.
She smiled. All her thoughts had been focused on missing Wooyoung and San, she sometimes forgot she had other friends here. Maybe spending a few hours with Nate would help. It's not like she can stay here and bug Seonghwa all day.
So she told him where she was and invited him to join. Maybe he could help her get a few things from her apartment too. She had done a lot of thinking and moving in with San really did sound like a good idea. For now at least. It would help both of them out financially and it would hopefully be a little easier for her to see Wooyoung.
A few minutes later, Seonghwa came back and flopped down in the seat with a heavy sigh. "Sorry, new trainee in the kitchen." He rubbed his temple.
Lila leaned forward to take his hand again. "Deep breaths." She giggled when he glared at her. "Is everything ok?"
"Yes, I just had to start a new batch of gravy." He grumbled before taking a large sip of his shake. "Wasting my ingredients."
Lila shook her head with a smile.
"Are you hungry?" Seonghwa asked and a few seconds later his stomach gurgled. It made Lila snort, then her head fell back as she burst out laughing. Seonghwa pursed his lips and turned slightly red.
"I'm sorry." Lila laughed while waving her hand in front of her face. "Yes, I would love some food."
The kitchen door opened and one of the other waiters brought out a tray of French fries and chicken fingers with a variety of dipping sauces.
"Good, because you get to be my guinea pig. I'm trying a new recipe." The older smiled as he broke apart one of the pieces of chicken and dipped it in a white sauce.
He spent the next several minutes telling her what all the sauces were and how he made them, all while feeding her pieces of chicken.
If Lila wasn't already taken, she would probably think it was the sweetest thing that he fed her without thinking about it. He just kept rambling on and on about his food and the different ways he's tried frying the chicken and how he thinks this is the best way yet.
"Lila?"
They both looked up, Seonghwa's hand inches from her mouth, to see Nate standing over them. His hands were shoved in his pocket and his face was slightly red.
"Nate! You got here fast." She said with a bright smile. "You remember Seonghwa, right?"
Both boys nodded at each other quickly before Lila slid down her seat. "Do you mind if he joins us?" Lila asked, turning back to Seonghwa. "I invited him to come because I didn't want to bother you all day." She said, blushing a little.
"No not at all. And you're not a bother, Lila. You really need to stop thinking that about yourself." Seonghwa said, giving her a scolding look. "You could spend all day here if you wanted to and I wouldn't mind."
"Thanks Hwa." Lila said, sending him a grateful smile as a warmth spread from her heart.
Nate shuffled in next to her and extended his arm to rest on the back of the booth behind her. "These look good." He said, reaching forward to grab a piece of chicken.
"Oh they are! Seonghwa is an amazing cook and this is a new recipe! I think it's amazing, Hwa, the best I've ever had."
"Thank you. I've worked hard to perfect it."
"Oh my gosh, these are great!" Nate said, covering his mouth as he continued to eat. A wide smile crossed his face as he glanced at Lila. "You weren't kidding! What seasonings did you use?"
"Now that's a trade secret." Seonghwa chuckled before scooting out of the booth. "I should probably get back and check on the new kid."
"What do I owe you?" Lila asked, going for her purse.
Seonghwa just waved her off. "Nothing. You tested my food, that's enough for me. I love your visits." He winked at her before walking away and yelling, "Jongho! What did you do now?"
Lila rolled her eyes and slipped a twenty under the condiment holder on the table. It was something at least.
"So," Nate turned to look at her again. "What do you want to do today?"
"Well, I was wondering if you'd be willing to go to my apartment with me. I need some help moving a few things out."
"You're moving?"
"I kind of already have." Lila said, picking at a few fries. "San asked me to move in with him. It'll be good for both of us."
Nate hummed and just nodded his head a few times. "Yeah, I can help you move."
"Thanks!" Lila beamed.
Then she felt her other phone vibrate. She pulled it out of her pocket and made sure to keep it out of Nate's sight since she couldn't leave with him blocking her in.
It was just a simple picture message, but it was one she had needed.
Wooyoung was in his bed, hair slightly wavy still from the day of filming, and he was blowing her a kiss.
.
.
.
.
Wooyoung woke to someone pounding on his door. He grumbled and tried to shout that he would be there in a second, but he was pretty sure it just came out as a grunt.
He rolled out of bed and ruffled his hair as he made his way to the door.
"Wooyoungie!"
He groaned at the sound of Rachel's sing-song voice on the other side of the door. Why was she here so early? "What Rachel?"
"Are you going to let me in? Or just make me stay out here?" She said, obviously pouting.
Wooyoung rolled his eyes and unlocked his door before turning around to find his shirt. It was so hot here that he tended to sleep without one.
He heard Rachel step inside and ignored the giggle that came from her. She had seen him shirtless many times during filming so it didn't really bother him anymore. "What do you want?"
"Boy, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed." Rachel whined. She came up behind him and ran a finger down his back. "Let me help you relax baby."
Wooyoung forced her hand away and stepped back. "Don't call me that. What do you want?" He asked again, snapping this time.
Anger flashed in her eyes as her face hardened. "Yeosang was looking for you. Something about rehearsing for a new number. So we should both probably go."
"Did he ask for you too?" Wooyoung asked, arching an eyebrow as he walked to his closet to get dressed.
"Well, no. But if it's for a dance number I'll need to know it too."
Wooyoung just rolled his eyes as he packed a gym bag with his clothes. He couldn't wait for all of this to be over. He wanted to go home so bad... He didn't feel like this film was worth it anymore. Not when he had Rachel clinging to him over here, and he had the person he wanted to cling to waiting for him on the other side of the world.
His heart ached as he pulled out his phone. Then it started to beat a little faster when he saw a text from Lila. It was of her and Seonghwa at his diner. The worthless flirt had his arms wrapped around her waist and his head resting on her shoulder, but Wooyoung knew he'd never do anything.
Although he was wondering who had taken the picture, he disregarded it and zoomed in on the picture. He knew a wide smile crossed his face as he looked at Lila.
He missed her so damn much.
After closing out of the picture, he noticed a second one had been sent of her blowing him a kiss too. There were several boxes behind her in the photo, and she had captioned it, letting her know that she was almost completely moved into San's condo and couldn't wait for him to come home. She also mentioned Nate had helped her.
That made Wooyoung grit his teeth, but he didn't feel like he could really complain. They had been friends longer... And it wasn't like he could ask her to cut him off.
So he flipped back to the picture and stared at it or a few more minutes, making a promise to himself to call her when he hand a chance so he could hear her sweet voice.
But first he had to deal with the she-devil waiting for him outside his closet.
And she was most certainly being one today. When he walked back into his bedroom, he was laying in what was supposed to be a very seductive position on his bed, but he immediately turned away and headed for his door.
A smirk crossed his face when he heard her sigh and then her heels clack against the hard floor.
He slipped his phone into his pocket after glancing at Lila's picture one more time and let the feelings he had for her flow through him.
It was just what he needed to help him get through the day.
