VIII. Shift

It was the end of the day and I was outside the school, waiting for Hope.  I  stood, looking at the building looking for any sign of the young girl when something jumped onto my back.  I didn't stumble and simply put my hands under their thighs, all to used to this from Allison.  "How the hell did you do that?" I heard Hope's voice ask me and I shrugged.  I turn to face the car lot, so that we could find her brother's car.

"My twin does this to me all the time, I use to jump or stumble but I haven't for the last few years," I told her, looking down at her arms that were throw loosely over my shoulder's while I could feel the weight of her head on top of my own and her shin digging into my scalp.  "Now tell me which car is your brother's," I say taking steps forward, my walk not being bothered by the extra weight.

"Dude you are ripped!  Also my da-brother's car is that silver one over there," She said and I noticed her slip up but shrugged it off, if she wanted me to know she would tell me.  Her hand pointed out to a car and I nodded, feeling her head shift on top of mine as I did so.  With a running start I race over to the car that Kol stood beside and he smiled at us.

I get to him and stop while Hope jumps off my back.  "Hey, where's Rebekah?" I asked him and he shrugged.

"She took her own car and left me," He said with a false look of anger that he quickly shrugged off.  Hope opens the door to the car and smiles at the driver.

"Hello, little wolf," The driver said and for some reason what he said sent shivers down my spine and a frown came over my face.  That voice sounded more familiar than anything else today, I suddenly didn't feel comfortable in my own skin and felt something in my gut.  I shifted uneasily as the feeling overtook me before I climbed into the car.  Hope and Kol had already taken the back seat, leaving me with the passenger seat.  I look at the driver and see he looks a bit like Hope.

They shared the same hair and eye color, the same eye color that I too had.  "Hey, I'm Hope, Rebekah, and Kol's friend, my name's David," I told him, offering my hand.  He smiled at me and I felt a tug at my gut like I should know him but I didn't.  He took my hand and shook it easily.

"I'm Niklaus, but call me Klaus or Nik," He said and I nodded, noticing the family had very old names.  I could feel something itches within me, I couldn't tell if it was my wolf or my powers but I knew it was dangerous and supernatural.

"Hope, I know I said I would study with you but I'm not feeling all that well, can you guys drop me off?" I asked as Klaus pulled out and Hope nodded with a concerned face.

"Are you okay?" She asked and I felt like tearing my skin off, it felt wrong.

"Yeah, just don't want to get you sick, I also doubt I could focus with this feeling," I told her, holding in a groan as my face got pale.

"You're getting pale mate," Kol said and I shrugged leaning back in my seat.

"I'm fine," I said, though I highly doubted it as I finally realized the feeling.  It was a shift, but that should be impossible, it was daytime for one thing and not a full moon for another.  I look down at my hand and see my skin starting to shift and the muscles to move under my skin in ways they are not suppose to.  "Stop the car!" I shout and Klaus hits the breaks hard.  "I'm gonna throw up," I lie before opening the door and running off.  I hear them shout after me but it was soon lost with the wind and my shouts of pain as my bones broke.  I hurried to take out my phone but it was challenging my with shifting hands.

I finally got it out and called my dad as I screamed as my back arched with a crack.  He picks up and I hear him screaming my name as he hears my painful shouts.  "I'm turning!" I shout to him.  "I'm turning, I don't know how, this hurts more than ever before!  Dad!" I shout desperately, tears rolling down my face as pain takes me over.  I scream loudly as my legs and arms break together and I fall to the ground.  The pain was unreal, I had never felt it like this before, not even on my first shift.

I look down at my hands and see the skin doing something it never had before, it was splitting open to reveal fur beneath it.  I bring my hands to my face and dig my claws in on instinct, pulling away the flesh.  I scream once again at the new pain and my skin continues to shed away and suddenly I'm blind as my eyes are torn from my skull before my vision returns, only this time that of a wolf's.  "Dad!" I scream before the shift fully takes over and all I can release are snarls, roars and howls.

The Mikaelsons

The Mikaelsons who had been in the car with David ran after him, keeping a distance away so he didn't know they were there though.  They watch him shift with wide and horrified eyes, having never seen anything like it and Hope cried as he screamed in pain.  Klaus held back sobs, somehow he knew this was his son and seeing him go through this type of torture hurt Klaus like a white oak stake.

As his eyes popped out of his skull it looked as if he looked directly at him, but they knew he couldn't see them, blinded by pain as the hunter who stole him all those years ago yelled for him over the phone.  Klaus felt anger when he heard his son cry for another man, calling him dad.  Kit, as the Mikaelson's were calling him, had finally finished his shift and in front of them stood a wolf, larger than normal.

Kit was staring straight at them, Klaus took a step forward and Kit growled, crouching to the ground.  Klaus flashed his werewolf eyes and Kit relaxed, sitting down and looking at Klaus who walked forward and placed his hand on Kit's head.  Kit's eyes closed and he seemed calm before his eyes flew open and he stared at Hope.  He stood up and went to Hope who smiled, "He recognizes me!"

The young girl sounded excited and the wolf rolled his eyes before he cocked his head to side, seemingly hearing something before he turned and raced away.

As Klaus stared after his eldest child he silently promised himself that he wouldn't leave Beacon Hills without Kit, even if he had to kill the very hunters who took him.  Though Klaus would admit he might do it anyway, just because he could, they took Klaus's child and the hybrid was not above taking their lives.  Klaus already wanted to kill the man Kit had called, angry that his child knew and trusted the man who took him from his real family.
