IX. Trigger
I was in the locker room, taking off my lacrosse gear, and secretly watching Scott do the same when I noticed the look on his face. He looked very upset and I saw him talk with Stiles and decided to listen in. "You know those hunters in the woods?" Scott asked and my eyes widened, now I know why he had that weird expression on his face when he saw my dad. This can not end well.
"His dad's one of them," Scott said, and I could feel his eyes burning into me and I turn to him as if I wasn't listening and smiled, as if everything was fine. Everything was not fine.
"His dad..." Stiles trailed off in what seemed to be shock while I turn back to my locker and continued changing.
"Shot me," Scott said, sounding traumatized.
"David's father?"
"With a crossbow," Scott said and I withheld my wince. What a great, normal start to a relationship between a werewolf and a werewolf-witch hybrid. Not to mention the werewolf was unaware of the hybrid and unaware the hybrid knew he was a werewolf. Normal.
"David's father?" Stiles said still trying to handle it but it seemed Scott was tired of it by his next shout.
"Yes, his father," Scott exclaimed, though there was hardly any anger behind it and sounded more tired and upset. Scott was breathing heavy with panic, almost sounding like a panic attack, "Oh my god, oh my god." I heard footsteps hit the floor before the sound of fabric meeting skin.
"Hey snap out of it, he couldn't even recognize you right?"
"No I don't think so," Scott said, his voice getting calmer.
"Right, right, does he know about it?" Stiles asked and I had the large urge to go over and admit that I myself was supernatural. I knew I would have to eventually, and if I told now I wouldn't have to be keeping a secret and he wouldn't get mad at me in the future for not telling even though I knew he was one.
"I don't know, what if he does?" Scott asked and then made sounds that sounded very similar to someone who was gonna start crying. This worried me, I didn't want to cause Scott unnecessary worry. "He's gonna kill me man, I can't," Scott said and I finally let the urge take over as I walked over and gently shoved Stiles out of the way.
Without thinking I leaned down and kissed my slightly shorter boyfriend before pulling away and smiling, "No one's gonna kill you." Stiles's hands moved widely in shock while I gave them both a grin.
"Woah, how could you hear us from all the way over there?" Stiles asked widely waving his arms in the direction I came from. I laughed at the ADHD boy and crossed my arms.
"Well for one, you talk loud. And for two," I flashed my yellow eyes at the boys. My eyes weren't nearly as bright as Scott's but that was normal, we were two different types of werewolf. "And yes Scott, I know. I knew since day one, and I really don't care." Scott smiled brightly at me and I kiss his cheek before turning around and walking out to go to practice.
We were out on the field, Scott was playing defense and got tackled by Jackson, the young werewolf was already pissed about that, then the couch decided to go and antagonize him. I didn't expect it but I could feel a growl rumble in my chest as I glared at Couch, I could practically feel the anger rolling off Scott in waves. I stayed silent in fear of cussing out the couch if I even dared to open my mouth. I didn't know why but I felt deeply protective over my shaggy dog.
He got back inline to run the play again, and when he went for it, it was Jackson who went down this time. Scott fell the ground and I could hear him growling under the mask. With nearly supernatural speed, I was down the field and next to him. Stiles got there a bit after me and Scott groaned out, "I can't control it, it's happening."
"Right here, now? Okay come on, let's go," Stiles said and I picked him up, though Stiles acted as if he helped but he didn't really have the muscle to do much. I was trying to keep my head low also, I could feel my wolf on the surface and since my last time shifting in broad daylight, I didn't want to risk flashing any werewolf feature to anyone. I groaned, holding back the wolf inside me and Stile's eyes went wide while he looked at me.
"Not you too!" We ran into the empty locker room and Stiles tried to calm us down but Scott looked up at him with yellow eyes.
"Get away from me!" Scott yelled at Stiles, though we stayed close to each other. I leant against the divider in the room, groaning as I felt the change start. Scott looked at me when he heard my first scream. I quickly started to shed my gear and jersey, not wanting to ruin it with the change.
The best I had going for me was that for some reason the change was happening faster. "Oh you have got to be kidding me," I heard Stiles say before the change finished and I was left on four paws. At least this time I was aware of my actions. Scott started to chase after a scared Stiles, giving into his predator nature. Knowing how this will affect him once he changes back I was quick to jump in front of Stiles and lower myself to attack, snarling at Scott who stopped in front of me.
Attacking him felt wrong, but I knew it was for his better interests. He would be wrecked if he knew he hurt Stiles. The two of them actually reminded me of my sister and I. Stiles ran away while I kept Scott distracted, when he tried to jump over me, I tackled him to the ground. Pinning his body, I growled in his face until he submitted, it didn't matter that he was a new werewolf with bloodlust, I was older and held higher rank.
I felt cold air hit us and fell off Scott in shock, the cold triggered my body to transform from the shock and I gasped sitting up, facing Scott and Stiles.
"Stiles are you okay?" I ask, bring my legs up and wrapping my arms around them to hide myself.
"Yeah, thanks by the way," He told me and I nodded, sighing, exhausted from the shift. "Also, what the hell! You turn into a fucking wolf and you try to kill me!"
"What happened?" Scott asked, seemingly very confused and I understood. New werewolves had trouble remembering what happened when they fully wolfed out.
"Uh let's see, you went full predator and tried to kill me! And David went full literal wolf and protected me from you! It's like I told you before, it's the anger, your pulse rising. It's a trigger," Stiles explained and David nodded in confirmation, silently impressed with the human.
"But that's lacrosse. It's a pretty violent game if you hadn't noticed," Scott said while David stood and quickly ran to his clothes, sliding them and going to his locker to get his extra pair of pants while he ignored their conversation. I instead opted to think about what the hell was happening with my shifts. It was almost as if Scott's shift had triggered my own.
