Chain 6: Update in Mato

Last time, in Chained Soldier: Reflection of Survival, both Himari and Yachiho reunite with their father in Japan and with the help of Itsuki. Emotions ran high reuniting, but bonds were restored, and bridges mended overall. The girls also learned about what their father had been up to and the dangers that were happening in Japan with people disappearing due to either Evil Riders or Mirror Monsters. Both girls then help their father save a woman in the Mirror World from getting eaten and help destroy it. With everything they learned from these experiences, they will be updating both of their squads.

Mato

Itsuki, Himari, and Yachiho were seen returning to base after spending time with their father. Himari was seen driving the jeep back to her unit's dorm.

Himari: Yachiho, Itsuki, how are we going to tell our Chiefs about the situation back on Earth?

Itsuki: We have to, if there's an invisible Rider going around abducting people into the Mirror World, we can't exactly keep that hush hush.

Yachiho: Tenka wanted to ease the other Units into the idea of working with you guys, but with that psycho on the loose, we might need to spread the word sooner than expected.

Himari sighed at this and continued driving the jeep.

Himari: You already told us about Scissors. I honestly thought he would be the main issue, but I was wrong. These other Riders that have a grudge against the Anti-Demon Corps will make things difficult. I am worried that when we meet any of them, we might be outmatched.

Itsuki: Don't worry about them too much, it's our problem. If they decide they wanna go for a frontal assault on the Anti-Demon Corps, we'll fight them off or put them down if need be.

Himari looks at Itsuki and nods her head and continues heading back to the dorms. After a long drive, the three were seen back in the dorms.

Himari: I hope Yuuki can make something to eat. The drive made me hungry.

Yachiho: I still say we should've taken dad up on his offer to get lunch.

Himari: I know but this was important.

The three then headed inside the dorms there, they saw all their comrades in the living room.

Nei: Himari, Itsuki welcome back!

Sahara: Hey, Yachihro, how was it seeing your dad again?

Himari and Yachiho looked at them before turning to their chiefs.

Himari: I am sorry everyone but as much as we want to talk about what happened in Japan we have some news that needs to be shared.

Yachiho: To start, our father has agreed to open a working relationship between his agency and the Anti-Demon Corps moving forward with the missing persons cases.

Yuuki: That is great to hear. I can't wait to meet him.

Yuuki said that Tai was seen shaking in fear hearing this.

Tai: I don't know if I should feel happy or terrified having Sarge coming to help in Mato.

Itsuki: Relax, he and Magnugiga will be pointing their guns at the Shuuki and not us when he comes to help.

Tai: I know that but I am scared he will ask me to spar with him again. Even Destwilder surprisingly doesn't want to spar with either of the two after Dest wanted to try being the Alpha.

Tai remembers his Contract Monster trying to fight the two which ended with him getting blown up in one shot.

Yuuki: Wow, Himari and Yachiho's father is that strong?

Yachiho: Considering the fight we had in the Mirror World against one of those Mirror Monsters, father made rather quick work of it. His arsenal seems to pack more of a punch then either of these two's equipment.

Itsuki: How do you expect us to compete when your old man has an arsenal of weaponry that would make most militaries jealous? I mean I have a sword and a few sneaky tech cards.

The members of the Seventh and Sixth Unit looked at the three in shock at how powerful Himari and Yachio's father was.

Himari: While our father's strength is impressive my sister and myself have seen the Mirror World.

Yachiho: I never thought I would say this, but I find it more unnerving than Mato. A perfect replica of our own world, completely devoid of human life. The moment we set foot in there, I had the overwhelming sense of not belonging.

Both Units looked at Yachiho, not understanding what she meant.

Sahara: Not belonging, what do you mean by that?

Shushu: Yeah, if it's a copy of our world why would it make you feel that way? I mean sure it's creepy that it's completely empty.

The girls looked at her, not really understanding Yachiho's words.

Yachiho: The entire place felt unnatural, there was this dead feeling to it, like living things aren't meant to exist here. Not to mention the Mirror Monsters, despite my pistol being Blessed to combat Shuuki, its bullets did minimal damage to that thing. It's almost as if the Mirror World itself is out to kill you.

Both Units looked shocked hearing this as they felt chills running through their bodies.

Himari: I will be honest if I had to choose between the Mirror World and Mato I choose Mato. The Mirror Monster we faced was something that made the Shuuki look like docile animals.

Yachiho: Father mentioned that particular species was one of the weaker ones, yet it felt on par in strength to a Unique Shuuki. It nearly destroyed Himari's Shield she created with her Blessing in two hits, the third would've done it in, if Magnugiga hadn't interfered.

Once again both Units looked shocked by this information as they didn't expect the Mirror Monsters to be stronger than the Shuuki.

Yuuki: These Mirror Monsters are on an entirely different level.

Kyouka: It's troublesome to say the least if some of the weaker members of their species are on par with the stronger variants of Shuuki. Is there anything else we should know in regards to these creatures?

Yachiho: They seem to have some level of intelligence outside of feral violence. The Mirror Monster we fought realized it was getting nowhere fighting father and I, so it opted to attack Himari and the victim. Even when father and I relentlessly shot it, it ignored our attacks in favor of attacking them. Most likely planning on devouring them before retreating. Father mentioned some species of Mirror Monsters form packs or herds that use teamwork to overwhelm their prey, meaning they are intelligent enough to formulate basic plans of attack amongst one another.

Both Units frowned upon hearing this as the Mirror Monsters are more of a threat than the Shuuki if they are that intelligent.

Nei: This doesn't bode well. The Anti-Demon Corps mostly focused on the Shuuki but with these Mirror Monsters, they will be more of a problem.

Tenka: How worrisome, at least they are contained within the Mirror World. However that does not bode well for victims tossed into it unwillingly.

Yachiho: Even harder considering whenever someone is dragged into the Mirror World, no signs of struggle or discarded items are left behind. Furthermore all security cameras glitch out while the person is being dragged in, meaning no surveillance can prove it is real. Whoever orchestrated this sadistic game doesn't want the general public finding out.

Everyone in the room became tense hearing that as that was going to be an issue.

Nei: How are we supposed to save people trapped in the mirror world without knowing they are even in there?

Itsuki: Well there is one way, but it relies solely on us. So it's only semi-reliable in most cases.

Everyone in the room looks at Itsuki and Tai wondering how they would be able to save people stuck in the Mirror World.

Itsuki: We call it Mirror Noise, it's this awful noise we hear when a Mirror Monster is on the move near us in the Mirror World. It sounds like someone dragging a blade across glass. When we hear this noise it usually means a Mirror Monster near us has its sights set on its prey.

When Itsuki said that Nei looked at him amazed.

Nei: Interesting. It is like you and Tai somehow have a frequency only Riders can hear. So in a way, you two are like living radios.

Itsuki: I guess, however we do have another potential advantage, one that can be applied to everyone under the right circumstances.

Both Units looked at Itsuki wondering what the potential advantage was.

Yuuki: What is it Aniki?

Itsuki: When people are dragged into the Mirror World and return to our world, they gain the ability to see into it through reflective surfaces. If a Mirror Monster was stalking around a part of the city, Himari and Yachiho here will be able to see them moving within the reflective surfaces.

When Itsuki said that both Units looked shocked by this information by the fact it was a huge advantage for them.

Nei: You are a genius, Itsuki.

Sahara: Totally, this is our ace in the hole against those Mirror Monsters.

Shushu: Wouldn't that mean all of us will have to take a trip to the Mirror World at some point? I mean the more people with that ability the better right?

Both Units looked at Itsuki wanting to know his thoughts on this.

Sahara: Us going to the Mirror World will help right, Itsuki?

Itsuki: Yeah, but I don't plan on bringing you in there unless there's an active threat. Last thing we need is to take a quick trip there and get ambushed by a group of Mirror Monsters.

Both Units looked at Itsuki before nodding their heads.

Himari: Fighting those Mirror Monsters was difficult but a group of them spells trouble.

Kyouka: So we only go if a victim has been tossed inside to assist escorting them out.

Tenka: It seems we've covered the major points of the Mirror World, is there anything else we should know about?

Yachiho: I do not know if you or Chief Uzen were informed, but one of the guards stationed at the Permanent Gate in Yamagata utilized by the Fifth Unit was dragged into the Mirror World. The worrying part is that she was dragged into the Mirror World in broad daylight while on guard duty at the Gate.

When Yachiho said that Tai gritted his teeth as he might know who did it.

Tai: Was it that bastard Scissors?

Itsuki: No, the other guard on duty said it was like some invisible force grabbed her and yanked her in. If Scissors was behind it, his body would've been visible the moment he reached out of the Mirror World. Apparently when she was dragged into the Mirror World, for the briefest of moments she saw a figure shimmer into view. He had a V-Buckle on and armor themed after a lizard. It appears we have a new Rider who can turn invisible going after the Anti-Demon Corps.

Both Units looked at Itsuki in shock at this information.

Yuuki: This is horrible!

Nei: We need to be ready for these Riders coming after the Anti-Demon Corps. Chief, we need to tell the other Units about this before any of their members fall victim to them.

Sahara: I seconded Nei's idea if the Anti-Demon Corps is becoming a target for these Kamen Riders they need to know immediately.

Both Tenka and Kyouka looked at their commands before looking at one another.

Kyouka: Should we bring this up at the next Chiefs meeting?

Tenka: Do you think we can afford to wait that long? This entire situation only seems to be growing worse with each passing day.

Kyouka gritted her teeth as Tenka had a point but to ask all the chiefs into a meeting was a lot to ask for.

Kyouka: Do you think we could convince the Commander to gather everyone? You know how she is, would she even take our declaration of an emergency seriously?

Itsuki: Is it really that hard to call an emergency meeting if the top dog doesn't agree to it?

When Itsuki said that Tenka and Kyouka looked him in the eyes with a serious look.

Tenka: Commander Yamashiro is not someone to cross, she despises having her time wasted.

Kyouka: Unless we can prove that our emergency is worth her time, she will deny our request for an emergency meeting.

Itsuki: Okay, so how long until the next meeting between all of you happens?

Itsuki looked at the two wanting to know when they can meet with the Commander and Chiefs of the other Anti Demon Corps Unit.

Tenka: In about a week or two I believe, unless of course something catastrophic happens before then.

Itsuki: So we have to hold out for two weeks or hope things go belly up so they decide to hold a meeting sooner?

Tenka sadly nodded and Itsuki gritted his teeth as this was bullshit as lives were on the line.

Nei: We don't have any evidence for them to see the newest threat which is the Mirror Monsters. Without proof no one will take us seriously sadly.

Shushu: We should've recorded that sparring match between Itsuki and Tai, that would at least prove we know where the strange creatures are coming from.

Both the Seventh and Sixth Unit felt like idiots for not doing so as that would have been useful evidence.

Himari: We failed to capitalize on the evidence we had about the Mirror World. Mirror Monsters, and Rider War I say if we want to get everyone on board with this we should record the next Shuuki attack with Itsuki and Tai taking the lead that way we can send the report to everyone to make our case.

Kyouka: We will have to be cautious moving forward, Itsuki do you, Tai, or Detective Kimura know how many people have been given Advent Decks at this point?

Itsuki: Counting myself, Tai, Sarge, and Musclehead, that's four. Scissors and this invisible Rider make six, I bumped into one other, calls himself Raia, guy isn't really big on taking sides, he's got no beef with the Anti-Demon Corps, but has no interest in helping fight the Shuuki. So in total there are currently seven Riders.

When Itsuki said that everyone started to think about what they should do with this information.

Sahara: Seven Riders that is a lot. Do you think those who haven't affiliated with either side could be swayed?

Itsuki: Raia was pretty vague, said he had no interest in getting caught up in this war. Rather he joined so he would have a way to explore Mato, apparently he's looking for something here.

Everyone looks at Itsuki shocked hearing this as what could this Raia person be searching for?

Yuuki: He is searching for something in Mato? What is he even looking for anyway Aniki?

Itsuki: Don't know, he refused to say. He did make one thing clear though, if anyone got in his way he would dispose of them. So I'd recommend you don't try and apprehend him unless you want a fight.

Everyone looked at Itsuki and understood that they didn't want to make an enemy out of Raia.

Himari: Understood Itsuki the last thing we need is to gain more enemies.

Nei: I am curious about why Raia is searching for something in Mato and why he refuses to disclose any details. Whatever it is, it must be important enough to keep it a secret from everyone.

Everyone in the room was curious but decided that getting the Commanders and other Chiefs involved with the Mirror Monsters and Rider War was a top priority.

Sahara: So is that or is there more Itsuki?

Itsuki: That's everything I think, guess we gotta wait until this meeting thing happens. So are we done here?

Himari: I believe we have said everything that needed to be said so far now I believe we should rest.

Yuuki: That sounds like a great idea. I can make tea for everyone if you like and some snacks if you are all interested.

When Yuuki said that all the girls looked at him and agreed.

Himari: Yes, please, that will be delightful.

Yuuki nodded and headed to the kitchen to make some tea and snacks.

Ten Minutes later

After Yuuki helped serve tea and snacks Yuuki was seen smiling, seeing everyone having a good time. Itsuki was seen looking out the window at the wasteland of Mato. His mind was replaying the events that transpired at the Shuuki Nest.

Aoba's words: You kept your promise, I knew you would Itsuki.

Itsuki's words: No, this is some kind of fucked up trick.....

Itsuki remembers trying to deny that Aoba could be alive but for some reason he couldn't shake the feeling he was wrong, especially what Aoba said next.

Aoba's words: Like you would ever hurt me Itsuki~

The way she acted, how confident she was that he wouldn't hurt her. It was exactly how they first met, how she had no fear of talking to him. Either this Shuuki was messing with him or she really was Aoba.

Itsuki: Like hell it's her, Aoba would've slaughtered One-Horn after it attacked Yuuki the way it did. Why did I even bother giving her a chance to prove it? She'll probably just kill me the next time we cross paths.

Itsuki sighed as he then took a sip from his tea trying to calm his nerves. However the young man only growled in frustration, that whole screwed up encounter had been tormenting him for days now.

Itsuki: Some really screwed up shit to wear the face of the girl I loved and pretend to be her. But she acted just like her, not even remotely intimidated by me.

Itsuki then slammed his fist against the wall as he grit his teeth, why couldn't he let this stupid conversation with a damn Shuuki of all things go?

Itsuki: Why am I obsessing over this? I know for a fact that Shuuki won't try to talk to me next time I see it! Why the hell am I even entertaining the thought? Like hell it would seek me out all by itself with no backup or plan to kill me.

Itsuki wasn't stupid Shuuki had one goal, and it was to exterminate humanity to entertain the idea that this Shuuki had no ulterior motives was like waiting to get stabbed by some psychopath.

Itsuki: That's it, I'm done dwelling on this ridiculous conversation. I know there's no way in hell that Shuuki will talk to me one on one, so I'll just forget about it. Next time I see her, I'll take her down.....

A determined expression spread across Itsuki's face as he had no intentions of worrying about this further. However, a small part of him wondered if he really was wrong about this, and that Shuuki would come and seek him out to talk. Itsuki ignored that tiny voice, it wouldn't do him any good.

Itsuki: It'll go away eventually......

Itsuki tried to relax until he heard footsteps and saw Nei giving him a smile while standing next to him.

Nei: Hi, Itsuki, what are you doing?

Itsuki: Nothing, just sorting through my thoughts is all.

Nei: Oh that's nice I do that too whenever I think about other stuff. You must have been thinking really hard about it since it seems you are trying to understand your emotions.

When Nei said that Itsuki just looked at her before chuckling a bit as he underestimated how smart Nei was.

Itsuki: Yeah I guess, not like it matters, just a stupid nagging little voice in my head that won't let me move on from a certain thought is all, it'll go away eventually.

Nei: I see well people get that feeling sometimes like there is something trying to tell us to do something but are worried it is not the right thing.

Itsuki: It probably isn't, I'm getting my hopes up for the impossible, I don't see any point in humoring it honestly.

When Itsuki said that, Nei became quiet before looking at him again.

Nei: Would my actions be unwise then, Itsuki?

Itsuki looks at Nei confused about what she is talking about.

Itsuki: What are you talking about?

Nei: Itsuki, the reason I joined the Anti-Demon Corps was to find my parents; they might still be in Mato.

Itsuki looked at Nei, part of him wanted to be honest and say that their chances were slim to none. However another part of him couldn't bring himself to crush her heart like that.

Itsuki: There's a good chance, if they went missing together here in Mato, then they had each other to rely on. It's always easier to survive when people are together.

Nei looks at Itsuki and smiles at him.

Nei: I will find them, Itsuki that I promise. Once I save them I can give them a big house to stay in and they don't have to worry of ever going back to work and spending more time with me.

Nei smiled thinking of her parents returning to her. Itsuki looks at Nei and smiles before patting her head.

Itsuki: Must be nice knowing you'll see them again. Hold onto that hope Nei, I don't wanna see you turn out like me.

Nei looked at Itsuki worried when he said that.

Nei: Itsuki, is something bothering you?

Itsuki: Nothing you need to worry about, again you don't wanna end up like me.

Nei frowns at this and walks over to him and gives him a hug, surprising him.

Nei: Please Itsuki if you are hurting please tell me. I don't want you to hold it in.

Itsuki: Nei, what I'm trying to say is I'm a guy with nothing to lose, meaning it's hard for me to care what happens next.

Nei looks at Itsuki, shocked by his words.

Nei: Why Itsuki?

Itsuki: My parents died in a Mato Disaster when I was probably around your age. I was stuck in an orphanage, never getting along with anyone. I was pretty damn angry at the world and picked fights every chance I got. Then I met Aoba and she refused to give up on a punk like me, she was successful at it too. You know how that ended though, I guess my point is. I'm here in Mato not to be a damn hero, I'm here to satisfy a rage that has been building within me for years now.

Nei just looks at Itsuki before giving another big hug.

Nei: I am sorry for your loss Itsuki you had to experience it twice. I know the Shuuki have taken people we care about but I will say this whatever the reason we are fighting the Shuuki, as long as we get rid of them nobody will lose any family like we have.

Itsuki gently patted Nei on the top of the head before looking out the window.

Itsuki: Don't stop wanting to keep people safe Nei, you're a better person then I am for it.

Nei: I promise Itsuki, though I know you don't think yourself as one but to me you are a good person.

Nei then let go of Itsuki before heading back to the others and Itsuki sighed at her words.

Itsuki: If you knew everything about me you might not agree with that claim......

While Itsuki continued to stare out the window, Tai was seen sitting next to Shushu, who was playing video games on her portable console.

Tai: Hey, Shushu, do you think I am a capable fighter? I mean the spar with Itsuki still shows that I am lacking.

Shushu: What I want to know is why you even agreed to participate in the Rider War. Like Itsuki has his reason, from what Himari tells me her dad has his reasons. You seem like you don't even wanna be a part of this whole thing.

Tai sighs before looking at Shushu.

Tai: It was a dumb idea really you see the wish I wanted was that both males and females were equals...

Shushu looked at Tai before moving away from him slightly.

Shushu: So you feel the same way as Scissors and Invisible Rider about the Anti-Demon Corps then.

Tai: What, where the hell did that come from?!

Shushu looked at Tai in disbelief.

Shushu: You said you don't like the current state of the world, Scissors and that Invisible Rider are doing what they're doing because they despise the current state of the world. Therefore you think like them.

Tai looks at Shushu in horror hearing this as he never considers it.

Tai: I am nothing like them!

Shushu: Okay, let's say you get your wish then. What if wishing for Men and Women to be equal strips women of their ability to receive Peach Blessings? Then who would protect Earth from the Shuuki?

Tai just looks at Shushu before gritting his teeth before raising his fist and punching himself in the face. Shushu looks at Tai surprised by his actions.

Tai: I am an idiot! I don't want that I wanted men and women to fight together.

Shushu: Haven't you ever read those stories about wish granting genies? If you're not careful your wish could be twisted into something negative. So while there is a fifty percent chance your wish would let men receive Peach Blessings, there is also a fifty percent chance it would take away women's ability to gain them.

Tai looks at Shushu again before feeling terrible as he never really thought about the wish till now.

Tai: I guess I was a fool then. Shushu I am sorry I made you feel scared of me over my stupid wish. I looked up to the Anti-Demon Corps. You all fight bravely to protect people.

Shushu: I mean I could be wrong about the wish, but considering the guy who gave you that Advent Deck forced you into an inescapable death game where you have to eradicate the Shuuki and kill the other participants to win, I'd say the wish would do something messed up like that. Heck, he could be lying and there is no wish at all.

Tai was silent for a moment before sighing as Shushu said those words.

Tai: If that is the case then we are just pawns in this psycho's game. It doesn't matter anymore. I made peace with it. Though I will say I am actually kind of happy.

Shushu looks at Tai, confused as to why he is happy.

Shushu: Happy you're trapped in a death game you can back out of? That's a weird thing to be happy about.

Tai: Well I got to meet Itsuki, Sarge, the Sixth Unit, and Seven Unit. You girls are quite strong and brave, I admire that from all of you.

Shushu: Really? I admire your naivety, it makes it easy to tease you.

Tai chuckled at Shushu's words.

Tai: At least I'm getting teased by a cute girl so I don't see that being a problem.

Shushu blushed at that comment before a devious smirk spread across her face.

Shushu: Oh so you think I'm cute do you? Well then I suppose you won't mind me keeping this photo.

Shushu holds up her cellphone, showing a picture of Tai collapsing on Destwilder after they were defeated in the sparring match. Tai's eyes widened before he tried to grab the phone away from her.

Tai: What the hell, why do you have a picture of that?!

Shushu: It's blackmail material! Chief said I'm not allowed to blackmail Yuuki anymore so I figured you'd be a good substitute~

Tai just glared at the blonde haired girl.

Tai: Damn you, she-devil!

Shushu: If it upsets you so much, stop making it so easy to do~

Tai: Give it here!

Tai yelled as he lunged at her trying to steal the phone away from her who giggled as she blocked his attempts.

Shushu: Too slow pussycat!

While the two continued to wrestle for the phone, over in the garden of the dorms, Yachiho and Himari were seen talking to one another.

Himari: We need to get all the Commander's attention, Yachiho. They need to know what is happening back on Earth.

Yachiho: I know you aren't gonna like this idea, but maybe we should call mother? If she requests for a meeting alongside Chief Uzen and Tenka. Commander Yamashiro might just take it seriously.

Himari was silent at this suggestion as she hadn't seen her mother in a long time since she became a member of the Seventh Unit.

Himari: How is mom going to react that we went to see Dad? We both know if we mention him it is going to be a problem.

Yachiho: I know, but if we say it was for official business and that we were sent due to our connection to him, she might only break her desk in frustration.....

Himari sighs at this but understands as that was the best option they had.

Himari: Fine though I hope mom doesn't tell grandmother about this. Both him and Grandmother were always at odds with one another.

Yachiho: You sure you wanna go through with this? We could find another way, maybe ask the Fifth Unit Chief?

Himari looks at her sister before shaking her head.

Himari: No for this to work we need our mother's full cooperation. I just hope it goes well because we can't have any setbacks.

Himari felt dread as she was going to speak to her mother again.
