The Clock

Kaoru's View

After back talking Tamaki, I couldn't get myself to go over to the Host Club anymore. I hate to admit it, but I'm afraid of what will happen upon doing so. Who knows what he has up his sleeves, this is Tamaki we're talking about -- a man who has complete power over the Host Club and it's members. He could easily make Kyoya send a team out for me, for my little act of rebellion.

God, there was so many things swirling through my mind and it wasn't helping me at all. My goal at hand was to find Tomoyo - if she even is alive - so I could prove the Host Club wrong for calling me all these preposterous names over the past few months, for calling her all those horrid names no man should ever say to a lady.

This nonsense was going to end soon, I just knew it. We were all friends at some point, and now that this beloved girl walked into our lives with a small darkside to her, we all hate each others guts? It doesn't make sense at all. Friends stick together through the very end, but as everyone says...

Only your true friends will be there standing by your side through your hardest times in life.

That was very true, I couldn't say it better myself. This was the moment of time where I would discover the people who truly care about me, and who my real friends are. Either way, my time was running out. I needed to access a database that would have any records of Tomoyo, somehow. I was ready to do anything at this point if it meant that Tomoyo could be in my arms again. Of course, things have changed over here ever since the day she, well...died, but that didn't mean that she wasn't welcome. Maybe to the others members she wasn't, but she was more than welcome to stay with me. When you're in love, you'll do anything for the other person. It's just how it went.

Love really was a crazy thing.

But man, was it amazing.

I smiled and sat myself down in front of my computer. It was time to do some hardcore researching right now. It was time to be Haruhi. It was time to be a--

Nerd.

I furrowed my eyebrows together and leaned forward as I started to type in what first came into my mind; Tomoyo Haninozuka.

I hummed to myself as I slowly scooped up some ice cream from the cup in my hand and shoved it in my mouth. I gulped it down and shivered as my head started to hurt.

"Gah, brain freeze!" I groaned out.

Despite the sudden brain freeze, I took another scoop and shoved it into my mouth, savoring its sweet taste and lush texture.

"Hey, uh, Asuma?" I asked, "Have you found anything yet?"

Okay, so I might have gotten lazy with my search for Tomoyo. It's not like I gave up, it's just that I didn't fully understand how to search for her. Every site that had information on her possible whereabouts were blocked and required me to have the government's permission. Everything on her was in the government's hands and I couldn't see it. So being my rich stuck up self, I hired some kid from school who knew what he was doing and supported me on what I was doing. I was surprised to hear that he agreed with me, saying that I should do my best to find her. When I talked to him about that before, his eyes were all dull and dark. Kind of like mine, well, how they were now, at least.

He spun around in his chair, "Uh, yeah. I found a few things on her, like her age and such, but at the moment I'm working on hacking into the government's little safe where they're keeping anything on her previous or current whereabouts. Breaking into the system will be a little difficult at first, but I think I can do it if you give me a little more time. I understand that you want to get your hands on this information now, but this is a process that takes some time, unfortunately." He explained, pushing his glasses up his nose with his middle finger.

I rolled my eyes at that, but smiled at him and nodded. He was doing the hard work for me with no complaints whatsoever. I was honestly surprised at that fact alone. Normally someone as himself would now be yelling at me for not paying him, or for simply using him like some tool. Asuma was different than the rest as far as I could tell. I liked that. Less complaints meant that we had more time on our hands to be spending on Tomoyo.

"Thanks, Asuma. I really appreciate the time and effort you're taking out to help me out here." I mumbled out softly, gazing at him with a smile.

Asuma stopped typing away and he glanced over at me with a small smirk playing at his lips, "It's no problem, Kaoru. I know how bad it feels to want someone back after losing them... It's not fun at all." He said with a dry laugh.

I frowned and stood up swiftly. I walked over to Asuma, who after talking me, continued with his effort to hack into the database. I placed a hand on his shoulder and firmly squeezed it.

"I know... You're right. It's-- I'm sorry for what happened to her. It seems like we have similar cases, hm?" I mumbled, hinting at the fact that I knew his girlfriend was gone.

Meaning she was dead.

I felt him tense up, the sound of his fingers hitting the keys echoed throughout the room.

"It's..." He sighed, "Don't apologize. It's my fault for not searching or her as much as you are for yours. I could have tried harder, but I was lost; confused. I didn't know what to do at the time and the guilt just took over me. The guilt stopped me from finding her. It--... I'm the reason why she's gone now, but all that matters right now is that I help you find your girl. Something I couldn't do before."

My eyes widened and then narrowed slightly. I let a soft sigh pass my lips and I pat his shoulder before heading towards the door. I grabbed the doorknob and twisted it, making my way out. However, I stopped midway out of the door.

"I'm sure she's in a better place now looking down at you as you do your best here. I'm sure she loved you, because you sure did. She's always going to be looking down at you. She's your guardian angel now. Just know that she's always with you." I mused, glancing over my shoulder as he typed away.

I smiled and walked out of the room to get us some refreshments. It felt good to say that. Asuma deserved to hear the truth after hearing all the hate filled comments from his girlfriend's parents and family. He was scared, he wasn't to blame for her death. We all get scared at some point in our lives and we chicken out. After all, we're only humans. We can only do so much.

The clock struck twelve, the noise ringing throughout the household. The sound meant something to the two boys in the house who were both working hard to find one sole girl. It meant that time was ticking away, and that they had to do their best in that limited amount of time they hold.

For if they take too long, the worst will come.
