Chapter 7

Jacob Meyer
#25

I am awaked by the screaming of the overhead speaker. Today is the day we become reunited. "Lindsey Marking, Eliza Gething, Lincoln Stone, Jacob Meyer, Samuel Johnson, Katherine Collins, and Daisy Snipet, please report to room one."  Room one has never been used before. These must be the battles of the century.

I walk into the dreaded halls, as others do the same. I spot this beautiful girl with flat auburn hair and vivid green eyes. Cute freckles scatter all over the bridge of her nose. She is gorgeous.

Eliza and Lindsey Marking walk side by side; discussing something that probably private because they are talking in hushed tones. Lincoln Stone walks alone, slightly behind Eliza Gething. Every couple seconds, he glances up at her with softened eyes. The beautiful girl, I assume to be Katherine, walks with Daisy, smiles on both faces, talking, catching up. Samuel Johnson and I walk next to each other.

"You like her?  Think she's pretty?" This is the first thing Sam asks when he reaches me. Sometimes, I get annoyed when he knows things about myself that I don't even know.

"H-how did you know?" I stutter, racing over my words, hoping to speak smoothly.  I failed, very very badly.

"Your eyes went wide with admiration, you let out the softest of gasps, and. . . .you have a little drool on the curve of your lip," Sam chuckles. I smile, knowing the secret is safe with him. Or is it?

"Lindsey isn't talking. I wonder why. Eliza is talking about...about her nightmare, a memory. Katherine is talking about being a teacher, and Daisy is talking about her numbers and calculations. Lincoln is thinking about Eliza.  He thinks about her too much," Sam analyzes.

"Don't you ever think of that as stalking or spying? Do you ever feel bad?"

"Nope! I'm perceptive, I'm just taking what they do and putting it together as a puzzle. If they truely didn't want me finding out, they shouldn't 'sigh' or 'drool'," Sam says, glancing over at me accusingly.

Before I could say anything, we all reach room one. Lindsey and Eliza walk in first and then Lincoln. Sam and I walk in next with the two other girls last. All of our jaws drop as we see the type of room we had entered.

There was a glass dome in the center of the room. Water trickles down from handcrafted and designed metal water falls as fire roars on hand designed torches. We all rush up to see what's in the dome, a huge forest scattered with lakes and creeks and towering trees. Beautiful, just beautiful.

Then, the glass becomes cloudy and black, so we can't see through.

"I hope you all enjoyed that sneak peek at the arena. I know you all have probably have read The Hunger Games, so we recreated it for you! I hope you enjoy!  All fourteen of you will fight against each other," a man with gray hair in an ironed tux smiles.

Jutting her hip to the side, arms crossed, and lips pressed into a thin smile, Lindsey says, "So this is your genius idea to get rid of all of us? By killing us all in a Hunger Games arena? That's a great idea.  Throw fourteen of the world's most powerful hormone crazed teenagers into a ring to kill themselves.  Genius idea.  Like, no rebellions, no mistakes, no errors!  Just living in a perfect world where it's normal to kidnap teenagers,"  Lindsey takes a breath before asking "Who are you anyway?"

"I started all of this. I'm the reason you're here," he says happily, as if we would want to thank him and praise him like a god.  Like, hell no!

Lindsey slowly walks up to the guy, all the while saying, "If you think for one second that we're happy here, think again. No one wants this.  This is a hell, you idiot."

Wow, this girl has some fire. Wow. I smirk, trying to hide my upcoming cheers and smiles.  Lindsey glances over to all of us, I give an encouraging smile and motion with my eyes to continue on. I want to see more. She gives a fake smile back, and turns her body back to the man.

"Who gave you the right to capture us and make us test subjects?  Who died and made you king?  You ruined our lives, so we'll ruin yours."  Lindsey sure does have a temper. She'll lead us.

"Jess Thompson, Anilia Richardson, Lillian Summer, Jack Woodland, Johny Green, Danelia Ross, and Andrew Picket, please report to room one,"  the overhead announcer blares out.

I haven't met Anilia, Johny, or Lillian.  I wonder who they are and how they act. Jess is like Lindsey, but a bit more talkative. Just a bit. Jack is like my best buddy. I love him, not the gushy mushy love. Like bro love, if you know what I mean. Andrew, he's, well. Only one word can describe him: badass.

About two seconds after the announcement was made, Jack pops up at the threshold with white dots littering his skin.

"Hey! Dude, what happened?" I exclaim, confused on the white dots. I come up closer to him, to find that they are scars.  I stand in the threshold with him.

Jack doesn't say anything, but gestures towards the hallway, where Lillian walks through the door.

'Lillian froze his blood' someone in my head says.

'Hi. I'm Anilia. I am the girl with brown  hair-" the voice inside my head is interrupted by another voice.

"Right in front of you," a girl with brown hair says. I smile.

"Nice to meet you, Anilia. I'm-"

"Jacob. Nice to meet you, too." I smile awkwardly at her interruption. Anilia gives a smile back before walking into the room, a little closer.

'Talk-' her thought is interrupted by a bloodcurdling scream. Anilia kneels on the floor, arms wrapped around her knees, screaming and shrieking in pain.  Tears stream down her face by the gallons.  I rush to her side, trying to hold her up.  'The-'  Anilia tries saying in my head again, but ends up crying and screaming harder at the attempt.

"The pain,"  she chokes up, caught on tears and screams.

"Don't try to use your powers here, or you'll end up like her.  This is a power cancelling room, sensing your brain power.  When you use your power, you have to use more brain power.  The room senses when you use an extremely high amount of brain power and cancels all your brain power.  You lose control over your powers, and you get hurt in the process.  Long story short, don't use your powers in this room."

After a few minutes, Anilia manages to stand up on her own, just to walk over to Daisy's side.  I look over to see who else entered the room.  Lillian, the girl Jack motioned to, stands with her arms crossed, not giving a shit at all.  Danelia copies her movement, and stands right next to her.

Jess walks up to Lindsey and they both greet each other with open arms.  They smile at each other, talking excitedly.  Eliza walked away from Lindsey a little while ago to join Katherine and Daisy, but when Anilia joined them, Katherine and Eliza both walked off, leaving Anilia and Daisy together.  All of us pair together except for Lincoln, and Johny.

Andrew joins our little group of three, making it four.  We all walk over to Lincoln, inviting him into our group, now making it five.  Samuel, Jack, Andrew, Lincoln, and I.  We all stand in a row, all talking to each other.  We take note of Andrew's charred, and scabbing up skin.  We ask him about it and he only said one word: Lindsey.

"Geez, she's heartless and cruel,"  Jack utters, speechless.  While, Sam and I nod in agreement.

"No, she's not that bad.  She didn't have control of herself, remember?"  Andrew explains, trying to convince us of his viewpoint.  Samuel pauses, closing his eyes for a second before opening them again with enjoyment.

"You like her, don't you?"  he asks with a glint of humor in his eyes.

"It's that obvious, isn't it?"  Andrew asks with a slight groan.

"You wouldn't know from afar, as in a mile away,"  I smirk.  Jack laughs on with me.

"Let's just hope she doesn't notice, or you'll get your ass whooped,"  Lincoln jokes, receiving a couple laughs from the group.

"No, why don't you go for her.  Let's just hope she doesn't burn his ass, he'll need it.  Hell, let's hope she doesn't kill him.  If someone were to kill Andrew though, I want it to be me,"  Jack laughs, full out belly laugh, and we all laugh with him.  The five are back together!

"Let's hope you all have what it takes,"  the old man says, before closing the door behind us, no way out.  "Okay, here are the rules."
