"Confusion" KaiRen One-shot (Requested by @EmiliaUchiha) (This is going to be awfully long... more than 2000 words but less than 3000)

Ren paced back and forth in his office. He sighed as there was nothing to do and he had no company.

Asaka went to Miyaji Academy for an intramural match, so did Tetsu and Kyou, and Suiko was busy with idol work. Basically Ren was alone.

He doesn't know anyone else from Fukuhara High. Ren sighed in annoyance as he was bored.

He then had an idea. Ren got his phone with a smile and leaned on his chair, placing one foot on his desk.

His fingers lingered on the contact number and Ren looked at the ceiling. (A/N: I can imagine...)

"Eh? What if he's busy...?" He wondered out loud and scratched the back of his neck. "Nahh! Doesn't matter!" Ren exclaimed with a wide smile.

He tapped 'call'. "Might as well bother you, Kayi!"

"My turn. Draw." Kai declared his turn. He was fighting Aichi again. "Ring the bell signaling the end of time, envoy from purgatory that will destroy the-" He was cut off by the ring of his phone.

"Heh. Wrong timing, eh?" Miwa, who was watching the fight, chuckled. Misaki was also watching and laughed a bit.

Kai took out his phone and sighed. "You're such a jerk, Ren..." He muttered. He returned his phone to his pocket.

"Eh? Kai-kun, why don't you answer it?" Aichi asked and tilted his head a bit to the side.

"It's not that important. It's just Ren." Kai said and the ringing stopped. "Sorry about that, let me continue." He said and Aichi nodded.

He raised his avatar card again in the air as he declared his chant. "Ring the bell signaling the end of time, envoy from purgatory that will destroy the world! Ride the Vanguard! Perdition Emperor Dragon, Dragonic Overlord the Great!" (Chant taken from episode 192, when he was fighting Gaillard)

"There it is." Miwa said and Misaki nodded, while Aichi got ready for Kai's attack.

"Seek the-" His phone rang again. "Tch..."

"Again eh?" The blond sneered.

"It seems to be urgent, Kai-kun. Why don't you answer it?" Aichi suggested and Kai sighed before nodding a bit.

"Miwa, you finish the fight." He said and handed the cards in his hand to Miwa, who nodded and smiled.

"Okay! Now I can get to use Kai's legion deck!"

Kai went outside the shop and answered Ren's call. "What is it, Ren?!" He asked, annoyance evident in his voice.

"Aw, that's cold of you, Ka-yi! I just wanted to-" He interrupted Ren. (A/N: I really think Ren calls him Kayi in the anime...That's how I hear it)

"Just get to the point!"

"Ah, I get it. You were fighting with your mate again, and then you're in the middle of your chant when I called, eh?" Ren said in his usual happy-go-lucky tone.

"So what if I am?!" He was really annoyed with Ren right now.

"Aw...You're so mean, Kayi...I just need company right now..."

"Then how about Narumi, Shinjou, Yahagi and Tatsunagi?!"

"Asaka, Tetsu and Kyou are at Miyaji for an intramural match, and Suiko is busy with her idol work..." Ren said and Kai could almost imagine Ren pouting.

"So you chose to bother me instead?!" Kai exclaimed, and he was almost positive that the people inside the shop could hear him.

"What if I did?" Ren wasn't scared or afraid at all, yet his ears hurt due to Kai's shouting and he had to keep his phone away from his ear four inches away.

"Fine! Then I'll go there!" He was really annoyed at Ren, and he had to agree for his pestering to stop.

Kai re-entered the shop, his annoyance was visible. He saw Miwa putting his cards back into his deck box. Kai grabbed Miwa's wrist and dragged with him.

He doesn't care about the curious looks that he received. "Eh? Kai? What are you doing?" Miwa asked as he put Kai's deck in his pocket and tried to catch up with his speed as so to not get dragged.

"You're coming with me to the Team Asteroid's HQ." Kai said it so casually.

"Alright, jeesh, no need to drag me. Sorry, nee-chan, I'll help you some other day!" Miwa apologized to Misaki since he promised to help out with the shop.

"It's alright, no need to apologize." Misaki reassured him as the two guys left the shop.

"Why are we going to the headquarters, though, Kai?" (A/N: To be honest, I think almost everyone calls him Kayi in the anime...I just won't mention it here.)

"Ren wants company, and I think that you'll do."

"Alright." The blonde agreed. 'The way he said it, it's so straightforward. He has changed.' Miwa thought. Then he realized what Kai had said. "Oi, wait a second Kai! You mean that you'll leave me there?"

"No, idiot. I just wanted to bring you with me since I know that Ren would be that much of a chatterbox. Not that you're different." The brunette said, still holding the other teen's wrist.

"I think that I'll take that as a compliment." The blond sighed and the both of them continued walking.

They arrived at the headquarters. Miwa and Kai entered it and went to the elevator, Kai pressing the button at the top.

The elevator stopped and the doors opened, signalling that they have arrived at Ren's office.

"Finally! Kayi, you took so long-huh, Miwa is with you?" Ren asked as the two teens entered his office.

"What if I brought Miwa along with me?" Kai asked, trying to control his annoyance.

"I thought that you would come alone..." Ren muttered mysteriously, but Kai and Miwa were able to hear it.

"And what's that supposed to mean?" The brunette asked the redhead. Ren looked up and wore a facade of a smile.

"It was just that I wanted you to come alone so I can annoy you all I want!"

"Tch...I regret coming here."

"So, Ren, where are the others?" Miwa asked him.

"Ah, Asaka, Tetsu and Kyou are at Miyaji for an intramural match, while Suiko was busy for her idol work." Ren explained.

"Now that you mention it, if the others are at Miyaji for an intramural match, why is that Tokura and Aichi are at Card Capital, chilling?

"Oh, Aichi-kun didn't mention it to you? Their Cardfight Club has 5 members, right?"

"Yeah. With nee-chan and Aichi not around, they're left with 3 members." Miwa nodded.

"Ishida, Komoi and...Tatsunagi? You mentioned that Suiko is busy with her idol work, how about Kourin?" Kai asked. Ren shrugged as his response.

"Back to the real issue, why did you call Kai even though that your phone is full of other contacts?" Miwa asked and Kai was secretly grateful for that.

Ren shrugged again. "I just want to have a cardfight with him since it has been about 5 months since our last cardfight." He explained.

"Tch...Is that all?" The brunette asked and Ren nodded.

"Meanwhile Miwa can watch our cardfight since you brought him along, so he doesn't have to be bored does he?" The redhead asked and the blond shook his head.

"Nahh. I can leave since Kai only dragged me here. Kai, catch!" Miwa replied and tossed a brown deck box. It was Kai's deck.

Kai caught it and glared at Miwa. He was sure that Ren would be annoying as hell.

Miwa ignored it and waved before entering the elevator.

"Miwa, you're such an idiot..." Kai muttered even though he knows that Miwa wouldn't be able to hear it anymore.

"So, Kayi, shall we?" Ren asked as he pressed the button of an elevator to the rooftop. "Aren't you coming?"

Kai sighed and went beside Ren. In a matter of seconds, they were already at the rooftop.

Ren went to one side and Kai did the same. "Stand up the Vanguard!"

"I go first. Draw. Ride the Vanguard!" Kai said.

"Draw. Ride! Attack." Ren declared. "Drive Check, no trigger."

"Damage check. Ren, I know that there's a deeper reason why you made me go here. What is the true reason?" Kai asked.

"Eh? You're doubting me, Kai?"

"Tch, you don't have any plans to tell me, do you? Draw. Ride the Vanguard! Perdition Dragon, Dragonic Neoflame! Call. Menace Laser attacks your Vanguard!"

"Damage Check."

"Next, Neoflame! Critical Trigger! All effects to Neoflame."

"Damage Check. First, Second, no trigger." Ren did two damage checks.

"That's the end of my turn. Just tell me, Ren." Kai insisted.

"I already told you, I just wanted to have a cardfight with you. That is all there to be. Draw. When there is light, there is darkness, the darkness can only be swallowed by truth, that's a truth, too! Ride! Blaster Dark Revenger Abyss! I call. Attack! Next, Blaster Dark!"

"Tch..." Kai muttered at Ren's response.

"Ah, before I forget, I also wanted to ask you something." Ren added. The brunette raised a brow.

"Is that so?" He asked and the redhead nodded.

"Damage check." Kai said in response to Ren's attack a while ago. "Draw. Ride the Vanguard! Perdition Dragon, Vortex Dragonewt! And then call Whirlwind Dragon!" (A/N: I seriously need to download the Cardfight!! Vanguard database...Is that the name of the unit?)

Ren smiled. "Guard"

"I didn't attack yet-" He was interrupted by Ren.

"But that is what you're planning to do, right Kayi?"

"Tch..." Kai replied and put Menace Laser to rest. "You don't even know which unit will attack."

"But it's obviously your rear-guard, besides both Menace Laser and Whirlwind Dragon have 9000, which means I only need to guard with 5000 shield!" Ren said with his usual smile.

"I don't care about your explanation. My Vanguard attacks! And what is it that you want to ask?" Kai asked.

"Guard! It's just I've been confused lately."

"Drive Check, First, Second. No trigger. Whirlwind Dragon attacks! And why is that you're confused, Ren?"

"Damage Check, Heal trigger! I heal 1 damage. It's just...I don't know why, but I feel something different for someone...And I don't even know what it is."

"Yeah, sure you don't. That's why you're confused aren't you?" Kai asked and Ren sweatdropped.

(Ren's expression: -_-'')

"Jeez, that statement helped me a lot, thanks." He said in sarcasm.

"You're welcome. Your turn." Kai also replied sarcastically.

"Whatever. Stand and draw. Ride! Phantom Blaster Revenger Abyss! Call. Attack! Now tell me, Kayi, are you willing to listen?" Ren asked as Kai did a damage check.

"Draw trigger. Power to Vortex Dragonewt and draw 1 card. Listen about what exactly?" He asked and drew one card.

"You know what I mean, Kayi... Attack, Phantom Blaster Abyss!"

"Perfect Guard! You mean your ramblings?" The brunette asked.

"Aw...That's so mean of you, Kayi... First Check, Second Check, two critical triggers! All effects to my Rear-guard Masquerade. Attack!" The redhead sighed and attacked again.

"Tahr and Gia guards! My turn, draw. Seek the mate! Legion! Trinity Crimson Flame! Fine, go on with it. I'll listen."

"Arigato Kayi! Damage Check. So, you know the feeling when you want someone to treat you differently?"

"Call. Menace Laser attacks! Just get on with it, Ren. Go straight to the point."

"No guard...Damage check, critical trigger! I give all effects to my vanguard! Well then, Kayi, it's just...I don't know, I'm like...infatuated? Or in love?"

"My Vanguard attacks! So, cool. Who is this girl?" Kai declared his attack while asking Ren.

"Perfect Guard! Little Witch, Nemain!" Ren guarded. (A/N: I only know the unit name since my best friend @Rensaka143 has this unit...)

"Twin Drive, First, Second, I got a critical trigger. All effects to Whirlwind Dragon! Attack!" The brunette declared.

"I guard with Grim Revenger! My turn, stand and draw. I call. Seek the mate! Line up, you who would never fall in line, my avatar, Blaster Dark Revenger Abyss! Legion! My rear-guard Blaster Dark attacks!" The redhead declared.

"No guard. Now Ren, you didn't tell me who this girl is. Who is she?" The other teen asked causing Ren to sweatdrop.

"Actually...It's a guy...And I think that I love him. Attack!" He said nervously.

"Is that so? Guard!" Kai asked and guarded.

"Ahaha...Yep...Next, legion attack!"

"Perfect guard! Who is this guy, so?" He asked out of curiousity. Ren was his best friend, after all.

"Twin drive...First...Second...Double Critical Trigger! All effects to my Vanguard. Skill activated, I retire 3 rear-guards and re-stand my Vanguard! And I don't think that I could tell you...My Vanguard attacks again!" Ren declared.

"Really, Ren? Then why did you make me come here if you wouldn't tell-"

"Because it's you-" Kai interrupted him.

"No guard." He lied since he still has 1 perfect guard in his hand. Kai doesn't want to use it since he does not want to deal with Ren anymore. It just made the atmosphere awkward. He regretted asking Ren.

"Twin drive, first, second, no trigger." Ren sighed.

Kai did the damage checks. "First, no trigger. Second, heal trigger." He gritted his teeth as he healed one damage, and he hoped that the third one wasn't a heal trigger. "Third, no trigger." He immediately kept his deck.

"I'm so sorry, Kayi-" The redhead was interrupted.

"No need to apologize, you're right. You're just confused." Kai cut Ren off and swiftly left.

Ren smiled slightly to himself. "No, I'm pretty sure that I'm not confused, Kayi...But that's alright, I just wanted to tell you..." He whispered to himself. He then shrugged and returned to his office.

"Atleast I still have Asaka, and I haven't even told her!" He said to himself as he sat on his chair, one foot over his desk. Timing that the door opened.

"Did I just hear my name?" Asaka asked as she entered, Tetsu and Kyou following.

"You're just hearing things. So, how did the match go, Asaka and Tetsu?" Ren asked with a smile.

"I'm also here!" Kyou exclaimed, but the others ignored it.

"It was fun, Ren-sama! Of course, we won! Well, except for this Silver-Haired Freak, obviously!" Asaka glared at Kyou.

"Feet off your desk, Ren!" Tetsu scolded him and Ren did as he was told.

"Hehe, sorry old man!" He apologized while mocking Tetsu. It turned out better than he thought.
