Marinette's POV

Surely there is someone besides me upset at the fact that Cat Noir is dating some random girl.

I can feel it.

This miraculous makes me feel even more powerful than the ladybug, even though I know the ladybug holds more power.

But it holds good and pure power.

This holds dark, polluted power.

I feel it, coursing through my being.

I can also feel unrest.

There's more than me that holds resentment for the new couple.

Foremost, I can feel some who wanted me and Cat to end up together.

I can definitely get behind them.

Others, who wanted to be with Cat themselves.

There is plenty willing to help.

I open the top of the cane and out comes a snow white butterfly.

It comes to my hand, and I cover it, as the dark magic flows into it.

"Go, akuma, and do what I need."

It flies out the trapdoor to the balcony, and I watch it disappear.

Maybe this isn't right... I think.

Of course it is.

Cat Noir is yours, and you're not going to let that girl take him, are you? The voice asks me.

No. Of course not!

The akuma finds its target, and I feel the connection between us.

"Hello, Love Thief. I'm Lady Butterfly, and I'd like your help." I tell the girl.

"With what?" She asks.

"Stealing the love from the hearts of Parisian couples of course. Especially one in particular."

"If you mean Cat Noir and that girl then I'd be glad to." She says with venom.

"I do mean them. So, are you up for it?"

"Yes, Lady Butterfly."

She allows the darkness to enter her, and I know she goes on her way, destroying couples as she moves.

Maybe it's wrong to do this to the rest of Paris.

It's fine! You can fix them later, and Cat Noir will be yours!

Yes. All mine.

Cat's POV

Y/n and I are still in the park, just hanging out, when a sight I'm used to, but wasn't expecting comes tearing through the streets.

It's an akuma, shooting at any two people who seem to be together.

After getting hit, they start yelling at each other, then storm away.

"What?! Is that an akuma?!" Y/n asks, confused as I am.

"Looks like. You better get outta here, I guess my retirement was short lived!" I say as I get up.

She laughs, but scolds me for making jokes at a time like this.

But before she can hide, or I can even start to think of a plan, the akuma sees us and runs over.

She has what looks to be a bracelet she's using to shoot with.

I notice the ladybug and green paw print pattern she's mostly decorated with, it's on her outfit, and when she shoots, it's them fused together as a heart, but with a break between them.

"You!" She growls at us, no, at y/n.

"Me!" Y/n says back.

"Not the time for sarcasm!" I tell her, but she just tells me I do the same thing, which I can't argue with.

"What do you want?!" I yell to the akuma.

"I want my ship to sail!" She yells back, reminding me of what Alya said earlier.

Y/n laughs, and I know she's about to repeat what she told Alya, but the reactions will be much different.

"Y/n, don't say that!" I whisper to her."

"Ugh, fine."

"You, girl, are the reason it's all messed up! So, I'm going to steal the so called love you have!" The akuma says.

"I don't think so. You're not touching her!" I say as I jump and extend my staff, trying to hit her away.

But she dodges and shoots a beam at y/n, who ducks under it.

When she stands back up she looks very angry and I know what's about to happen.

She's going to try to defeat the akuma without any powers.

So, before she can even try to throw a punch, I pick her up and run.

"Caaatt, put me down!! I wanna help! Ladybug isn't here, so you need me!!" She complains, but I keep running, while the akuma follows, but she's busy blasting people.

"No, y/n. You dont have a miraculous, and I'm not letting you throw yourself into danger!"

"Then get Kaalki back for me!!"

"I... I can't." I say with a sigh.

"What? Why?"

"Ladybug didn't take the miraculous to our hiding place when she left last night. I can't find her, nor the miraculouses she had."

"Oh. Well, can't you track her? You said that's how you found Hawkmoth."

"Tried that, her miraculous isn't active."

"Wow. Hope she's OK."

"Yeah, me too." Even if I don't love her like before, I still care about her.

I really hope nothing bad has happened.

"Where are you?! Don't hide from me!" The akuma yells.

"Y/n, promise me you'll stay here, safe." I plead.

"But I-" Before she can finish I cut her off.

"Y/n, please. I can't fight if I'm worried about you." I say, hoping she'll understand.

"Fine. But be careful!!"

"I will. Cat's honor." I say and wink, then quickly hug her, and run towards the akuma.

"Ah, I see you've dropped your extra baggage!" She taunts.

"Don't call her that!" I yell defensively.

"Now, who sent you?!" I ask her.

"Lady Butterfly, of course." She says, as if it's the most obvious thing ever.

"Does this Lady Butterfly want my miraculous?"

"No, she just wanted me to break up you and that civilian nobody."

"She's not a civilian nobody!!" I yell, and lunge at the akuma.

But what does that mean?

She deflects and tries to shoot, but I flip away from it.

"Hey, Cat. Looks like we've got a new addition." A familiar voice says from beside me.

"Ladybug? Where have you been, are you ok?!" I ask.

"Um, yeah. I'm fine. We can talk later, but now let's just defeat this akuma."

"Ok." I say, and get ready to fight.

After a few minutes of fighting, a Lucky Charm and a Cataclysm, the akuma is returned to normal.

"What... Oh!! Ladybug and Cat Noir! Together! Yes!!" She exclaims.

She runs off as Ladybug and I fist pump, then I take a closer look at her.

"Um, LB? Did your suit change?" I ask.

"Huh? No. It's completely the same as it's always been. Not at all different." She insists, but there's something off.

The spots are a weird shade, for one.

And look less round, slightly curved in the middle.

And her hair, the pigtails are less pointed.

Before I can say anything else, quick beeps are heard.

"Well, I gotta go feed my kwami. See you in a minute?" She asks.

"Uh, yeah. Meet you at the Eiffel in a bit." I agree, then leap off towards y/n.

I land on the roof where I left her, and she comes out from behind one of the Billboards that was there.

"Hey, did Ladybug show up?" She asks.

"Yeah, but there was something off about her..." I reply.

"Huh." Y/n says, and my ring beeps again.

"You gonna turn around again so more detective work, or nah?"

"Yup. Gotta wait!" She says and turns.

I laugh and the green flash engulfs me.

"UGHH CHEESE!!" Plagg complains.

"I know, I know. Here." I say and hand him some cheese from my bag.

Y/n laughs, and Plagg goes over to her.

"Ohh, so that's what your full face looks like." He says.

"Uh, yep."

"You got any cheese?"

"Nope, sorry Plagg. If I'd known I was gonna see you I would've gotten some." She tells him, and his face lights up.

"Hey, kid! This is a good one! Keep her around!" He yells at me.

"I plan to, Plagg. If she's OK with that."

"Oh, I'm fine with it." Y/n laughs.

"Ok Plagg, claws out!" I say, before he can tell her anything embarrassing.

"Byyeeee-" He says as he's pulled into the ring.

"Alright, you're good." I say, and she turns around.

"He's cute. And funny." She says.

"Yeah, he's not always the most talkative, or helpful, but he's there for me, anytime I need him."

"Aww!"

"Ok, I gotta meet with Ladybug, so let's get you home."

"Ah, fine."

I pick her up, and run to her house, then set her on the balcony.

"Bye Angel! I may see you later, I dunno."

"Ok, bye Kitty!" I hug her, and plant a kiss on her cheek, then jump to the meeting place.

"Hello, Cat Noir." Ladybug says when I land.

"Hi, Ladybug."

I look her up and down, and notice something.

Her suit is back to normal.

I wonder why it was changed?

"So, Ladybug. What happened?! Why didn't you take the miraculouses back? Master and I were worried something happened to you!"

"Oh, I was fine. Just really tired."

"Then why didn't you take them back after you rested?"

"I had school."

"And after school? Or during lunch, even?"

"I just couldn't get away. But now I'm here, so it's fine." She says and walks closer to me.

"Um, yeah, but how did that akuma happen?! Who sent her?!"

"Maybe I dropped the miraculous, I was very tired."

"Well, sure, but now we've gotta find whoever it is! We can track them I guess. The akuma said she went by the name of Lady Butterfly, but she didn't want our miraculouses."

"Then what did she want?"

"I think for me and you to be a couple? Really weird reason." I say, laughing.

"It's not that weird." Ladybug tells me.

"Um, sure. Anyway, let's track her."

"No need! I already fixed the problem!"

"Oh?"

"Yeah. It's fine."

"Well, good. Did you take the miraculouses back to Master Fu?"

"You don't need to worry about that. They're taken care of."

"Uh, ok."

She's acting really weird, and her voice is odd.

"So, now that we've got that out of the way, let's talk." She says.

"What about?"

"Anything."

"Alright, I guess."

"So, how are things?"

"Fine." I answer simply, even though not many things are fine.

"That's good to hear."

"And you?"

"Oh, I guess I'm ok."

"Is something wrong?"

"Ah, it's just, I feel bad for losing that miraculous. It could've been bad!"

"Don't worry LB, you said you got it back, so it's all good."

"Thanks, Cat. You're good at cheering me up."

"Uh, yeah. I'm told I have that affect."

"You do." She says and walks forward.

She wraps her arms around my neck, so I hug her back.

This is weird, she's never been much of a hugger.

When I try to pull away she just  clings tighter.

"Um, Ladybug? What are you doing?"

"Nothing. Can't I hug my partner?"

"I guess, but let me go. This is kind of an uncomfortable amount of time." I say as I try to pull away.

"What's wrong? Don't you like me?"

"Of course, you're my friend."

"No, I mean like me."

"Oh, I um, not exactly."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, I have a girlfriend now."

"Ah yeah. That civilian girl."

"Mmmhmm, y/n."

"Come on. I know you still like me, your feelings can't drop that suddenly."

"Ladybug no, I don't like you anymore. And it wasn't sudden, I've been falling for y/n for a while now. Sorry. You had a chance, but I've moved on. Why do you only now like me?"

"Because I've realized how great you are!"

"Er, thanks? But still. I'm sorry Ladybug, but I don't like you anymore, and I think I should go. Bye." I say and leap away.

That was really weird.

She's never liked me, why start now?
