Tradition

Hayden

As per tradition, it was Halloween Movie time.

For as long as I could remember, Jayden and I spent Halloween together. We had done some twin costumes and everything. When we met Nick in middle school, we invited him to join us. Slowly, our group grew. I glanced over at Ocean, the newest addition to our group. Maybe she wasn't the worst thing to happen.

We always watched two Halloween movies, Hocus Pocus and The Adams Family. Some years we watched a third. This year, that would be Ghostbusters.

I searched up Hocus Pocus as we all settled on the couch with the food.

Had there been any Popcorn there would be popcorn throwing during this movie, but unfortunately there wasn't.

Once the virgin jokes started, they didn't stop.

"So, Hayden, no lighting candles today." Nick joked before glancing between me and Ocean. "Unless..."

I shook my head in a warning way.

"Still a virgin then?" Nicola grinned.

Yup.

Every. Single. Year.

I would miss it if they stopped, but still, I could not make eye contact with Ocean. She luckily had her eyes glued to the screen.

I mean it wasn't then end of the world right? I would rather not have any of the risk attached to it. Plus, I would rather wait for the right person.

We watched the Adams family next. It was one of Vira's favorites. Ocean had curled up around my arm, resting her head on my bicep. She was very intrigued by the movies. She watched with awe. Almost like she had never seen these classics.

Vira and Nick decided to head to bed early. Me, Jayden, and Nicola all exchanged looks but the words stayed unspoken. The rest of us stayed to watch another movie.

Ghostbusters. Yes, we sang along. Yes we were throwing pillows at each other. Yes Ocean was curled into the couch hiding her face.

Once the movie finally ended, Ocean and I decided to call it a night. Jayden and Nicola chose to play Mario for a bit longer.

When we reached my bedroom, I suggested to Ocean that she take a shower.

It took a little convincing, but I finally got her to agree. I grabbed her a towel as she grabbed some pajamas.

I sat on my bed, pulling out my phone. I found myself scrolling through my feed. The news was all on Halloween and the new movies the had come out.

A faint knocking sound startled me. I glanced around my room. Ocean was peaking out the bathroom.

"What's up?" I slowly stood up unsure of what was going on.

Ocean opened the door and turned, motioning to the back of her dress.

The dress swayed around her lightly. Her hair was down, flowing around. Her face was clear of makeup. Her eyes were having troubling focusing on me.

She had probably already taken her contacts out. I smiled and walked over to her. she pulled her air our of the way. Well, most of it, anyway. I gently brushed the wisps away, my fingers brushing her neck. When I did so, she twitched slightly.

I began slowly pulling the lacing loose from the back. Starting from the bottom, the lacing was quite tight, and it came loose slowly. The dress itself was not tight on Ocean. She had plenty of room to move and breath.

The last hole was a little tricky as the lace got caught. I leaned in to get a better look at the lace. I finally get it free, pulling the lace away. She wore a black tank top underneath the dress.

The tension in the room was so thick you could cut it with a knife. I held my breath as Ocean stood in front of me. Waiting.

I exhaled softly and whispered, "All done."

Instantly Ocean disappeared into the bathroom and closed the door. Moved back to my bed but made no move to pick up my phone. I staired at the spot I saw her disappear. My fingers tingled from the brush with her skin.

The way her hair falls around her shoulders. The depth of her blue eyes. I couldn't think of anything but her. The bump from earlier popped into my head. The way her hair felt against my chest.

The bathroom door creaked open, and I realized how long I had been staring. her hair was pulled back into a braid. She moved quickly from the bathroom to the couch, not even looking at me.

Slowly I got up and grabbed my stuff. I closed the bathroom door behind me. I let out a breath the I hadn't realized I was holding.

I turned on the water, getting ready to shower. The knob was turned all the way to cold much to my surprise. I shivered at the thought. Ocean probably was just embarrassed as to how warm she liked the water and turned it down to hide that. I grinned to myself I turned up the heat and stepped into the stream of water.

When I stepped out, the mirror was completely fogged up and the bathroom was nice and warm. I dried off, leaving my hair damp, not caring to straighten it out. Getting ready for bed, I checked the mirror one more time to see if my face was clean. Looking closer I noticed a light stubble that I would have to shave tomorrow.

I tried to be as quiet as possible when moving to my bed. laying down I closed my eyes hoping to fall asleep quickly. Instead, I found myself tossing and turning, Ocean's face in my mind.

I heard footsteps in the hallway and heard Nicola scold softly, "Shh we don't want to accidentally wake up my brother."

Changing my focus to the very faint sound of Oceans breathing, I tried to relax. Her breathing was so quiet almost like she wasn't there.

Her victorious look was one that I would love to see more often. The attitude she displayed without saying a word. It was hot.

When we were in the kitchen she was playing with her fingers, like she was trying to distract herself. Something I had noticed she did with her ring more often. The ring didn't suit her. It was too bold and flashy. Maybe it was time to find one that was really her. Something small and delicate looking, no big diamond, maybe a couple small ones. Maybe even not diamonds.

My thoughts seemed to wake me up even more as I lay there. I listened softly to the soft breathing. She had to be fast asleep at this point.

I got up and softly went downstairs to clean up a bit to help clear my mind.

The living room was a bit of a mess, I started by straightening up the pillows on the couch. Something purple caught my eye. Pulling it out from under the couch I was surprised to see a pair of striped tights.

Staring at them, it dawned on me whose they were. The pieces started to fall into place, and I sighed softly. "Don't get caught Idiots." I mumbled as I picked them up and went to throw them into the laundry room.

I could have found them in her room when cleaning up. Nick wouldn't know.

Returning to the living room I began collecting the popcorn bowls.

I became aware of the fact that someone was watching me.
