Rules

Hayden

After specifying to her which room not to go into, the movers showed up. Just in time too, otherwise things would have been awkward.
I never realized how weird it would be for me to live with a mute girl.
Standing in the doorway, her six boxes began to bug me. First thing I didn't understand was why they were there, looks like I'm going to have to help her bring them to her new room, the most awkward room, might I mention. Second thing that bugged me was that she only had six boxes and the weren't even big. There is no way she fit her stuff for one year in there.
"Alright," I sighed. I walked to my study and grabbed some paper and a pencil.
Handing it to her I asked her, "what in each box?"
Taking the paper, she wrote clothes and pointed to the smallest of the boxes before writing books and motioning to the other boxes.
"Tomorrow we are going shopping because your going to need some more clothes if you want to look presentable." I glanced her up and down with that said.
"And we will put you books in the spare room downstairs as it'll look better when people come over."
She nodded, seeming fine with what I had said. Well now she was living under my roof, she had no right to argue.
Standing next to the boxes, I picked up one of the boxes filled with books. Walking over to the spare room I opened to door and I dumped the box on the floor. I repeated this process with the other boxes as she struggled to get the one box into her bedroom.
Seeing as she hadn't been able to get it all the way up the stairs, I went to help her.
After bringing the box to her room I said to her, "meet me in the kitchen."
Once I got down to the kitchen, I decided to make myself a hot chocolate.
Once I had finished, she came down and sat on one of the stools at the counter.
"So, to start off, we need some rules in place." I rolled my eyes at her face, smirking as she dropped her gaze to the tabletop.
"First off no seeing other people." I said this with distaste as this would be my least favourite rule. "Second no getting involved with each other."
To that one she nodded, making me breath a slight sigh of relief.
"Third in any public place, even school we must act like we are in love, but not at home. And of course, no telling people this is fake. Are there any other rules we should put in place?"
Ocean shook her head, making me smirk. Even if she had something she wanted to add, she couldn't say it.
"Oh and you must dress in a presentable way, got it?"
I watched her eyes go wide in a worried way but nodded anyway.
This was going to be a long year.
Just as I thought that my phone started ringing.
Looking at the caller ID I saw it was Nick.
Crap.
I forgot about my friends how am I supposed to explain this to them?
Instead of answering I let it go to voicemail.
My phone started to ring once again, startling both me and Ocean. This time it was my father.
Picking up I heard slight arguing.
"Hi dad."
"Son!" My dad said. "I have good news. I take it the move went well?"
"Indeed it did." I smiled happy to hear my dads voice. It was more comforting than the awkward silence that followed redhead.
"That's wonderful dear." I heard my mothers voice as well and I knew I was on speaker.
"So is the girl... River with you?" My dad struggled.
"Ocean is with me now yes." I nodded.
"Wonderful would you mind putting us on speaker?"
"Alright then." I did as my dad asked, noticing that Ocean wasn't really paying attention.
"Alright so I have excellent news." When my dads voice rang though the speaker, it startled Ocean, causing her to fall off the stool she was sitting on.
I started laughing at the irony of this whole scene while I heard my moms panicked voice though the phone. "Is everything alright?"
Just to make my parent feel like I was ok with going through with the whole deal thing I asked Ocean "are you alright?"
She nodded, quickly getting up, but wincing slightly.
"Everything's ok." I answered my moms' question.
"What happened?"
"Ocean fell off her stool." Was all I could muster, trying my hardest not to laugh.
"Well as long as she's ok." My mom said her tone never losing its worried hint.
"Anyway," my dad took over the conversation. "The good news is that we have managed to get the two of you an interview with at Sunday Morning Sun."
I looked over at Ocean, she was even paler than ever. Like she were a ghost.
Wonderful.
"Awesome!" I smirked at the look on her face. "When?"
My dads answer shocked me. "Tomorrow. You will need to be at the address that I just sent you at 7:00 am, sharp. and they will be providing you with breakfast."
I groaned, that was really early. Way earlier than I liked. My phone dinged to let me know I had a message, checking I saw it was the address.
Looking at it, I saw that it wasn't to far from here. A ten-minute drive at most meaning that I wouldn't have to get up too early.
"Alright, thanks dad." I said before saying goodbye and hanging up.
I glanced over at Ocean just as she collapsed to her knees.
She seemed to be struggling but I didn't feel like helping her.
Walking away I sat down by the tv, turning it on. I started scrolling the channels.
It stared to freak me out knowing that there was someone else in my house, but I couldn't hear them.
Instead I let myself get lost in the newest episode of Survivor. It surprisingly calmed my nerves and I almost forgot about the whole arrangement.
