Hungover

Hayden

I woke tangled in my sheets.
Last night was a haze.
I tried to reencounter what I could.
We had gone to a bar to have fun. We all had a bunch of drinks and danced. I guess had one to many drinks and I could not stop thinking about Ocean. After that it became a haze.
I heard a soft mumble and sudden fear filled my system.
Did I bring a girl home?

I had my arms wrapped around somebody's waist. They were facing away from me. I couldn't tell any other features from this person. I was not just cuddling them. We were spooning.

My heart rate accelerated as I tried to think.

No, no I would know as Ocean had long red hair and was smaller. This person was bigger.

I pulled away and tried to think. My head ached with a major hangover.

I sat up on the edge of my bed and surveyed the room. This was definitely my room. Someone was laying on the couch as well. Was that Ocean?

No, they were too big.

Everything was fuzzy around me.

I got up and rushed to the bathroom locking the door behind me. I gulped down some water and splashed my face.

Staring at myself in the mirror, I wracked my brain trying to find any memories of last night. The person who I had been cuddling was not Ocean but who?

Who?

I took a deep breath and faced the truth. I was going to have to leave my bathroom to find out.

I squared my shoulders and turned the doorknob.

I stepped back out into the dark room. I looked around the room, trying to remember anything.

When nothing came to mind, I tiptoed over to my nightstand hoping to find my phone there.

My fingers bumped not one but three phones. Looking closer I was able to identify mine by its size.

I switched it on to look at the time. 9:48am.

I slowly cast the light of my phone toward the bed to see who was laying there. A risk at best. The figure was facing away from me. They turned around and instantly covered their face.

"What the hell man!" The voice was deep and clearly masculine. A male. Undoubtedly. Shit. Shit. Shit. Did I sleep with a guy?

Finally, they pulled their hand from their face.

A familiar face.

It.

Was

Jayden.

I had been spooning Jayden. All. Night. Long.

I stared at him. Now, this wasn't the first time I had shared a bed with him but that was when we were much younger. Maybe 11 at the oldest.

What were Nicola and Ocean going to think.

My thought process was interrupted by the buzz of the phone in my hand.

Startled, I dropped my phone, which bounced under the bed and continued to ring.

"Really?"

I turned to the other voice and saw the person who had been sleeping on the couch sitting up.

I sighed in defeat and turned the lamp on my nightstand on.

The judgemental looks from both Nick and Jayden were a fair trade to being woken up.

I got down on my knees and fished under my bed to find my phone. Once it was safely back on the table I got the nerve to ask, "So, um, what happened last night?"

Nick joined the two of us on the bed, trying to avoid eye contact. He glanced at Jayden and they both instantly burst out laughing.

It took a second for then to calm down.

"So, you had a bit too much to drink." Jay started whilst trying to catch his breath.

"Yeah, and we all decided it was time to head back."

"And when we got back you almost crushed Ocean."

"In a hug." Nick added quickly. "So, um, we decided that the girls would sleep in the living room."

"And we would sleep upstairs."

"And then you decided you wanted to cuddle."

"Unfortunately." Jay glared at us.

"Here, I have photos." Nick grinned, he reached over and snatched his phone off the side table.

He opened it up and scrolled through his photos and handed it to me once he reached the first.

It was me holding on to Jayden while he flipped the camera off.

The next I had Jayden thrown partly over my shoulder and I was starting up the stairs.

The last couple were of me in bed cuddling Jayden while he flipped off the camera again.

The last was a selfie with me passed out holding onto Jayden as he glared at Nick who smiled at camera.

"Why did you take these?" I finally asked.

"To show the girls." Nick grinned.

"Nope." Jayden shook his head and got to his feet instantly.

"There is absolutely no way that is going to happen." I agreed, reaching out for the phone.

"Catch me first." Nick ducked under my arm and rolled over the bed. Jumping up, he ran out the door with Jayden and I in hot pursuit.

He skidded on the floor in the hallway as he spun around, stuck his tongue out and darted down the stairs.

At the bottom of the stairs, he turned to the living room and nearly ran into Nicola. Nick was able to stop in time, but Jayden and I were not so lucky.

We crashed right into Nick, and we all went tumbling down.

Nicola watched, taking another sip from the cup in her hand. "Smooth. Real smooth boys."

She turned and started walking away. She called out to us over her shoulder, "Breakfast is on the counter, Vira is dropping Ocean off at work."

Watching her leave, I looked around confused. Nick, Jayden, and I detangled our limbs and stumbled into the kitchen. The smell had us all salivating. There were cinnamon rolls, bacon, eggs, hashbrowns and sausages out on display, still steaming.

We all loaded up plates and sat down at the table to eat. Vira and Nicola joined us minutes later.

"Thanks for making breakfast." Nick grinned at this girlfriend and pressed a kiss to her cheek.

"Oh, Ocean made it." Vira grinned.

"Where is Ocean?" I asked between mouthfuls of food.

"Oh, her dad asked her to come in to work, apparently he called you but never got a response." Vira gave me a pointed look.

"He was too busy cuddling Jayden." Nick grinned.

"Again?" Nicola and Vira grinned in unison.

I looked at my plate, trying to avoid the embarrassment.

"your lucky Jayden prefers the little spoon," Nicola joked as nick showed off the images.

"Nicola!" Jayden groaned. "Don't tell them."

"Too late." Nicola poked him playfully in the side before taking a strip of bacon off his plate. "Not my problem now."
