Done Deal
Hayden
I don't know why, but when I saw Ocean standing in the cold, I offered her a ride.
I had promised to go through with the deal, so I guess my gut was telling me someone was watching.
I don't know anymore.
It only made sitting next to her in our last class more awkward. Great.
I drove to my car to the company building, walking inside. My father and mother were just coming down the stairs, arguing slightly.
Then my dad said something that caused my mom to start laughing.
"Hi mom, dad." I smiled; I'd always hoped for a relationship like theirs. But instead I was stuck in a fake marriage with some mute girl.
"Ahh son, perfect timing." My dad smiled. "Have you made your final decision?"
I nodded.
"Wonderful dear." My mom smiled. She started walking away from me and my dad when my dad comment.
"Where do you think your going?"
"Home."
"No you're not."
"Oh? Then where am I going?"
"You are going to join us." My dad smiled as he gestured between us.
I looked at him.
"I had someone drive the car home already, son you are going to have to drive us." My dad grinned. "Same place as yesterday."
I nodded, backtracking to my car.
My dad, being the gentleman he is, opened the door for my mom before climbing in himself.
I got into the driver seat, sliding my key into the ignition.
My car purred to life, making me smile.
I pulled out of my parking spot and we started our journey in the pouring rain.
Today the car ride wasn't quiet. My mom spoke to us from the backseat, occasionally making my dad and I laugh. The car ride today seemed much fast thanks to that.
Once we were in front of the office building, I slowly drove though the parking lot, trying to find a spot. Once I'd parked my car, I stepped out and followed my parents to the lobby.
"Hello," The secretary shot me a flirtatious look. "Do you have and appointment?"
"Yes, we do, under the name Woods." My dad answer quickly.
"Ah yes. You will be in conference room A again. Will you be alright to find it on your own?" Her question was more directed at me than at me dad.
"We should be fine." My dad nodded before leading the way. He seemed to know exactly where he was going.
We made it to conference room A in no time, only having to ask for help once.
My dad knocked on the door and awaited the answer.
"Ah, right on time." Luccas opened the door and ushered us inside.
Glancing around I saw that Ocean was not present yet. She was probably still in her office, right?
Oh well, I listened to the light conversation between my parents and Luccas.
Suddenly I realized how thirsty I was. "Is there a somewhere I can get water?" I asked hesitantly.
"Yes, yes. Down the hall to your right. You won't miss it." Luccas waved me away dismissively.
Following his directions, I came across a water dispenser with small paper cup just like the ones Ocean had brought us yesterday. I grabbed myself a cup and drained it. Just as I turned to go, somebody bumped into me. The bag they were carrying spilt all over the floor and the small person fell over.
Looking closer I noticed that is was a soaking wet redhead. Ocean. It took all I had in me not to burst out laughing. I couldn't help the soft chuckle that escaped though.
She gathered up her things and stood up, disappearing into one of the offices.
I walked toward the conference room again. Once I had entered, I heard me mom make the comment, "Well your daughter sure is taking her time."
I decided to keep my mouth shut, wanting to see how this played out.
"Yeah...." My dad agreed only to be cut of by the door opening.
Ocean stood in the doorway; she was still in her soaking wet clothing, but she had ditched the bag.
"You're late." Luccas scolded. "This is your future and you can't even be bothered to show up on time?"
"Now, now," suddenly my mom took a stance. "Look at the poor girl, she looks as though she walked here."
"My goodness," Luccas nodded. I could tell there was something fake about it, but it did not really matter to me right.
"Anyhow," my dad said. "Is your daughter ready to sign the agreement?"
Ocean nodded and my dad smiled. He pulled out a bunch of papers which he slid over to Ocean.
She took about five minutes to read through them all before taking the pen and signing her name.
She pushed the papers over to me and I took my time reading through them. Nothing they said really concerned me, since they made it clear that we only had to act as though we were together when others were around. Suddenly, something caught my eye. One line said that we would be moving in together for the year that we were to be engaged.
Great. I thought sarcastically exactly what I want. I sighed and signed my name.
"Well now that is settled, perhaps we could invite you and your daughter out to dinner?" My dad offered. So that's why he wanted my mom to come.
"Why, we would be honoured." Luccas smiled.
"Perfect. I take it you have a means of transportation?" Mom said.
"Ah, yes transportation. We want their relationship to be somewhat public correct?" Luccas asked.
"Yes...?" My mom was genuinely confused.
"'Well then perhaps you two wonderful people would join me, while we send Ocean and Harry together?" Luccas offered.
"Hayden." I quickly corrected.
"My what a smart idea." My mom squealed.
Honestly, I don't get that woman some days.
"Wonderful." My dad smiled. "Son we have a reservation at your mother's favourite Greek restaurant."
My parents followed Luccas out of the room leaving me and Ocean. "Come on, lets go." I said in a serious tone.
She nodded and led the way down the hallway. She stopped outside an office, opening the door she slipped inside, returning to the hallway seconds later with her bag secured around her arm.
She led the way to the main entrance, where I took her hand, and led the way to my car.
I got into the driver seat as she climbed into the passenger's spot. I clicked my seatbelt. Starting my car, I drove to the restaurant.
Dinner lasted about two hours, meaning by the time I got home it was eight fifteen. Luckily tomorrow was Saturday, so no school. Although, our parents had decided that she'd be moving in tomorrow.
Great.
Note the sarcasm.
I decided to call it a night, diving into a dreamless sleep.
