Date

Hayden

After I broke the news to her, she seemed very nervous. I hoped the rest of the night would go better. I had a couple things planned, hoping she would like them.
Our food arrived, and we dug in. I watched her eat, capturing a photo of her as she had her eyes closed, fork half in her mouth.
Very adorable if I was honest.
No, bad Hayden.
Not again.
You don't like her.
You don't like her.
You don't like her.
You don't like her.
You don....
My train of thought got interrupted by a light tap on my arm.
"Huh?" I glanced up at Ocean as she giggled.
She tapped her cheek before pointing at me.
I lifted my napkin and wiped my cheek, "gone?"
She shook her head before tapping her other cheek.
I moved my napkin over and wipes my other cheek. "Gone now?" I asked smiling at the softness in her laughter.
She nodded smiling.
I like her.
The voice in my head spoke very loudly.
Shit.
I didn't know what came over me, but I dropped the fork that I had just picked up.
Oceans eyes filled with worry, though I tried to ignore them.
I can think of her as a friend I decided.
She's like Nicola or Vira, a friend.
Making that choice I returned to my food.
Once we were done with dinner, I payed. Standing I helped Ocean up and lead her out and to my car.
I pulled the door open for her helping her in.
She seemed to avoid my eye contact. Not that I can blame her after I dropped the bomb on her like that.
Stepping into the drivers' seat, I put my keys in the ignition and started the car.
Buckling my seatbelt, I pulled out of the parking lot and headed to our next destination.
We drove, the only sound was the radio playing. When the song switched, I noticed Ocean sway in time to the steady beat. It honestly surprised me. I didn't think a girl like her would know this kind of music.
I found myself singing, out of tune to the strong beat.
"I'm in love with an angel
Who's afraid of the light
Her halo is broken but there's fight in her eyes.
I heard a soft giggle and I glanced over and saw the smile that played on her lips.
"Walls are built to keep us safe
Until they're crashing down
Worlds apart we were the same
Until you hit the ground."
I sang most of the song and it ended just as I pulled into the parking spot.
I smiled climbing out of the car.
It was the right time to, luckily.
Helping her out, I smiled at Ocean.
I pulled her up to me, leading the way to the fence.
Past the fence, the beach started.
We stood, watching.
I leaned slightly against the fence, one arm wrapped around ocean, pulling her close as to shield her from the cool ocean breeze.
The sun continued to sink slowly as we stood there.
I pulled out my phone debating weather or not to take a photo.
No.
This was just for us.
I pulled her close looking down at her face.
A single tear ran down her cheek and I watched as she reached up to wipe it away.
I rested my head on hers feeling the comfort of her small body in my arms.
The sun was now half hidden behind the horizon and it was a little chilly out.
I let the moment last as the last rays of light faded down under the ocean. The sky still glowed red and when I took a step back from ocean, I saw how angelic she looked with the sky behind her. I could help but take the photo. She wasn't looking at me, but you could see half her face, as the wind blew though her long hair.
This one was for me, a great lock screen.
"Come there's one more thing." I spoke hesitantly to Ocean.
She turned to face me; with her hair was now whipping into her face. I opened the car door for her, and she stepped in.
Starting up my car again, we hit the road to our last destination. It was an open field, where I would lay a blanket down and we would watch the stars appear. I had roses also hidden in the back of my car to give her.
Pulling into the parking lot I reached into the back seat, pulling out two jackets. It was growing cold out.
Wrapping one around Oceans shoulders, I accidentally brushed her skin feeling its heat lingering on the tips of my fingers.
Pulling out the roses I held them out to her. Her face filled with awe as she took them from me. She pressed them to her nose as I snapped another quick photo of her.
Leading her out to the field, we payed down and watched the stars.
Every so often I glanced over at the beauty that lay next to me, ensuring she was still awake. Hearing her yawn, I decided it was time to head home.
"Come." I offered her a hand to help her up. When ocean took it, which I was not expecting, I smiled. Her hand fit well in mine; her skin softer than I had expected.
When she didn't let go right away, I got slightly confused. Glancing around, I noticed a tall figure stalking around the edge of the park.
Not sketchy at alllllll dude.
Getting back into my car, we sped off homeward.
Once we got back home, Ocean disappeared into her bedroom and I took to the couch filtering though my photos. I selected a bunch that I was going to post on Instagram. Opening my public account, I saw the flood of DMs waiting for me. Ignoring those, I prepared the post, adding the caption, 'the most beautiful girl for a date' with a couple heart emojis. I hit the upload button before switching back to my private account and tossing my phone aside.
