Eve POV
I'm sitting across from Harry who stares at me.
I play with my straw wrapper and try not to think about anything that happened on Monday.
"How have you been?" He asks me.
"Um, fine I suppose. You?" I ask.
"I've been uh good I guess." His shoulders shrug.
I wonder if he's good now because we haven't been together together in two months.
"That's good." I say. I sip my Pepsi and look away from him. He's making me nervous.
"How's Doug?"
"Good. He likes his new blanket." Harry bought him a new blanket that has little pugs on it. I thought that was cute.
Harry just smiles at me and rests his hands on his lap.
Silence falls for a brief moment.
Or a long moment.
"What you want to talk about?" I ask.
"Us." Harry says. I bite my lip and nod.
"Okay," I feel my hands begin to sweat. I rub my hands onto my jeans and bite the insides of my cheeks.
"Uh," He pauses and runs his hand through his hair. "My therapist says that I should talk to you about my progress and all but I don't know what to say about it, so I'll uh come back to that." I snicker softly and he smiles. "Sorry I'm starting to ramble aren't I?"
"Not as bad as usual." I compliment.
"Thanks," Harry says. "So these two past months of us being on a break, I've realised that us going slow, was more than slow. It was more like me acting like I don't want to be with you, which I'm sorry about. At the time I thought everything we were doing was fine, when it wasn't. I only did that because I still felt like I was married to my ex wife.
During the past 6 years I should've tried to move on from my wives death, and focus on the fact that she's gone, and she would've wanted me to move on and be happy. But I didn't. And I'm sorry it took me to be with you to realise how I was acting and feeling wasn't normal and or right."
Harry pauses for a moment then continues speaking. "So moral to that I'm sorry for not being the boyfriend you need. I was emotionally and physically closed off and that's not what you deserve to go through." His talking is slower which is making me more nervous. "So I guess that's the progress of my therapy."
"Do you feel better since you go to therapy?" I ask timidly.
"Yeah," Harry says. "It opened my eyes and made me realise how I was acting towards you."
My fingers start to fidget under the table. "I'm glad you're going," I say.
Harry just gives me a polite smile. "I also miss you a lot." He tells me.
"You do?"
"Yeah," His eyes look into mine. "The hard thing about the two months was being away from you."
I graze my teeth over my lower lip. "So, where do we go from here?" I ask timidly.
"Well," His eyes look away from mine for a quick moment. "Are you um, with anyone new? Like have you started seeing anyone?"
"No, why would I?"
"I didn't know if you still wanted to be with me," Harry says. His voice lowers a bit.
"I do," I answer. "Have you started seeing anyone?" I manage to ask. I sip my drink after.
"No," He answers. "I don't want to be with anyone but you." That makes my heart flutter.
"So, are we ending our break? Or do you still need time?"
"I feel like I don't need anymore time and I'm ready," Harry says. His eyes don't leave mine. "I um, want to end our break. You?"
"You're ready to be with me like fully?"
"I am," He replies. "So, we're off our break?"
"Yes," I say. "How slow should we take it this time?"
"What do you mean?"
"Do we ease back into things? Do we restart? Or do we continue from where we left off?" I explain what I meant.
I see our waitress come with our food. She places it down in front of us and smiles warmly then walks away.
Harry looks back to me. I sip my Pepsi that's almost gone.
"We can ease back into things," Harry suggests. "If that's alright with you of course."
"Yeah, sounds good to me." I say with a gentle smile.
"Great." I take a fry off of my dish and put it in my mouth.
"So, how's work for you?"
"The usual. How's it like working for me?" Harry asks with a smug smile.
"Terrible. It's hell." I joke making him roll his eyes playfully. I grin.
"Good to hear. I was hoping it was hell for you." I shake my head and smile gently.
"So, is there a new supervisor at the office?" I ask.
"Oh, Donna?" His head tilts.
"I don't know her name. She's tall, brown hair, has been at the office all week."
"Yeah she's a supervisor in a different department." Harry informs me.
"She looks nice." I find myself saying.
"She's a very sweet woman. Her husband is very kind as well."
"Huh?" I ask.
"When girls who like men get married, they call them their husbands, ." A twitching smile goes on his pink lips.
"Well, that's cool. Two nice people should be together." I don't know what I'm saying anymore. Harry starts laughing. "Why are you laughing?"
"Because I know why you asked about her," His eyes meet mine and I just finish off my drink.
"I was wondering why she was at the office," I lie.
"Yeah, okay." I roll my eyes a little and Harry snickers. "So you thought I was with her?"
"I mean," I pause. "I guess friends can introduce each other with their hand on their friends lower back. Or when they speak or laugh they touch the friends arm," I find myself saying. "All normal things."
"It's good to know you see everything." I bite my lip and snicker a little.
"Are you sure she's lesbian?" Harry looks into my eyes.
"Yes, I'm sure."
"How sure is sure?" I ask.
"I mean, I met her girlfriend and she said you were hot."
"Why would she call me hot?" I ask with furrowed eyebrows.
"We were talking and she asked if I'm with anyone. And I said I was. I pointed to you and said that you're my girlfriend. She said you were hot." Harry explains.
"Well then," I lick my lips. "Good to know." Harry just smiles at me and places one of his fries in his mouth.
"Sorry for the million questions." I say.
"It's fine. I understand why you're asking." Harry says with a soft voice.
"Are you offended?" I ask.
"No, I thought it was cute," He tells me. "I'd be offended if you accused me of cheating. You just hinted to it." I chuckle a little as well as the man in front of me.

Harry and I are currently walking to the parking lot.
It's very cold out so my hands are shoved into my pockets.
"Can I pay for half?" I ask Harry again.
"Eve?"
"Yes?"
"Stop asking me." We stop at my car. His car is parked next to mine.
"You never let me pay when we go to dinner. Not even the tip." I huff.
"I like paying."
"I like paying half." Harry just shakes his head.
"You're not paying for anything when we're together." I sigh. "Anyways, I know you're cold so I'll let you go."
"What gave that away?" I ask.
"Your teeth are chattering a bit, and you're also shivering." I chuckle and pull my jacket sleeves over my hands for warmth. Keeping them in my pockets wasn't helping. "I'll text you later?"
"Sounds good," He moves a little closer towards me. His head tilts to the side and his lips are only inches from mine.
Soon Harry's lips are pressed against mine. It warms up my body and makes my body feel fuzzy.
I kiss back a few moments later and that makes his hands cup my cheeks. His lips feel soft and gentle against mine.
We soon break away from each other. "Did I mention that I missed you?" Harry says making me smile.
"Yes." I snicker. "I missed you too by the way."
Harry grins at me a bit. He kisses my cheek before walking away.
"Have a wonderful night, Eve."
"You as well." He walks over to his car and I get into mine.
I rest my head against the head rest and let out a sigh.
I think that went well.
