Eve POV
"Is there any topics that I shouldn't talk about?" Harry asks me as we're five minutes away from my old house.
"No." I chuckle. "I just wouldn't make death jokes." I say.
"Why would I make death jokes?" Harry questions.
"I'm just saying things you should avoid Harry." I say with a chuckle. "My dad is more uptight with that stuff rather than my brothers." I say.
"Anything else?"
"Don't swear unless my Dad likes you."
"How would I know if he likes me?" Harry questions.
"He'll make fun of you." I say. "Well, joke around. Whatever guys do."
"Okay." He says with a nod.
"I'm glad you didn't bring your casual slacks." I say.
"Why?" His eyes look over at me.
"Because you would've been made fun of." I say.
"You're acting like they're bullies." His eyes look back to the road.
"They aren't." I snicker. "They're like dogs, they sense fear."
"Great." I smile.
"I'm just joking. They're nice." Harry pulls up to my Dad's house.
It's two o'clock and my brothers and their families are coming over at four for a family barbecue.
"You ready?" I ask while unbuckling my seat.
"No." He says with a slight snicker. I lean over and kiss his cheek.
"You'll be fine." I squeeze his hand.
I get out of the car and get Doug who's in the backseat resting.
"We'll grab our things later." I say to Harry who nods. We walk up to my porch and I ring the door bell.
Soon the door is pulled back with my father behind it. His eyes are a pale brown and his hair has some grey in it now. "Hi darling." My Dad says while hugging me.
"Hello." I say while hugging back.
When we break away from our hug my Dad tilts his head at me. "Are you on a diet or something? Why do you look skinny? You need to eat more." I look down at my body.
"I'm still the same size as I always been." I say.
"Uhuh." My eyes narrow at my Father.
"Anyways, Dad. This is my boyfriend Harry. Harry this is my Dad, Patrick."
"Mr. Collins." My Father corrects. I roll my eyes to myself. My fathers hand extends out to Harry who looks nervous now.
"Nice to meet you." Harry shakes his hand.
"Sure." I glare at my Dad. "There's the guy I've been wanting to meet." My Father kneels down in front of Doug who ends up rolling over on his back.
I look to Harry and mouth 'I'm sorry'.
"Anyways, come inside." My Father says. His eyes glance to Harry then to me. I step inside my old house. I take Doug off of his leash and hang it up on the coach rack.
"Are you a vegetarian Harry?" My father asks while walking towards the kitchen.
"I'm not." He answers.
"Good, I'm not a big fan of grass eaters."
"Dad." I scold with wife eyes. He can be so rude. He just snickers to himself. "I'm going to give Harry a tour of the house." I tell him.
"Okay. Don't be upstairs too long." My eyes narrow. My Dad gives me a smug smile.
We walk down the hall. "That's the bathroom." I point to the closed door. "Then the last door on the left is my Dad's office." I explain briefly. Harry nods.
"You look like you're going to shit your pants. Stop looking so tense." I nudge Harry as we take the steps upstairs.
"He's scary." I laugh. We stand at the top and his eyes look to the photo's covering the walls.
"The further you go down the more recent they get." I say.
"That's cool." Harry tells me.
"It was my Dad's corny idea." I murmur. I walk down the hallway. I pull back my old bedroom door and step in.
"Nice color choice." Harry compliments. My walls are lime green with a white boarder.
"Thanks." I say. "I made my brothers paint my room."
"Why?" Harry asks with a snicker.
"I mean, why not? You have to take advantage of being the baby sister while you can." I smile to myself.
"Smart." Harry leans in and kisses me.
"Sorry to interrupt." I hear my Fathers voice say. We both quickly pull away from each other. Harry's face heats and I clear my throat. "You were upstairs too long." My father scolds.
"We just got upstairs." I say.
"And your tongues are already down each others throats." My Father retorts. I let out a shrug. "I'll be giving Doug a walk because I don't want him shitting in the house. Try not to get knocked up in the mean time."
I fake laugh and he walks downstairs. I look to Harry. "He hates me already."
"He's just being a hard ass." I say. "He'll come around." I step out of my room. Harry follows me downstairs.
I see his eyes look to a photo on the wall downstairs. "I hate that photo." I murmur.
"Why?" Harry asks.
"Because of my face." I huff. Harry moves his head more close to the photo to get a better look.
"You look fine besides you look annoyed."
"It's the look of fear." I remark.
"What do you mean?" Harry looks to me. I point to the person beside me.
"That's John." I murmur. His arm is around my waist and his body is close to mine.
"Oh." I hear Harry say. "Is there anymore photos of you guys?"
"I hope not." I admit. "I told my Dad to throw out all the ones with him." I say.
"I assume your Dad still likes him?"
"Probably." I mutter. "I mean my Dad thought John would be my husband and he approved of him if I did want to marry him."
I glance over to Harry who's looking at me. "I'm sorry, I'm not helping you feel less nervous."
"You're fine." Harry smiles softly. I lean up and peck his lips. "We should stop kissing while we're here. Our luck your Dad will come back and see us kissing."
"Two days without kissing?"
"Your Dad will hate me more if he see's us kissing." Harry says.
"I don't think he hates you." I say. "He's just pushing your buttons."
The front door opens and I see my Father walk in. He takes the leash off of Doug and my pug runs over to me.
My Father soon walks over to us. "So, how did you guys meet?" He asks curiously.
"Uh, well we bumped into each other in the city first." I mention. "But uh I internship at his office."
"So, he's your boss?" My Father clarifies. I itch my head and Harry looks uncomfortable.
"We were friends first." I hear Harry mention.
"But he's your boss?" My Father asks. His eyes are judging me.
"One of them." I say.
"How romantic." I hear my Father comment sarcastically.
"Well if you think about it in terms of friends that end up dating, then it is kind of cute." I say.
"I think of it as a boss that likes his employee." My Fathers eyes look to Harry.
"Intern." I correct.
"I wouldn't mention that to your brothers. They'll dislike him more than I do already." My Dad smiles warmly at us then walks away.
"Do you still think he doesn't hate me?" I hear Harry say. I let out a shrug.
My Father is still up John's ass to even understand that I've moved on.
"You just have two days with them." I say.
"I expect to get along better with your brothers wives." He says making me chuckle.
"If it helps I like you." I say with a soft smile. "My Dad will loosen up to you, okay?"
"Uhuh." I pout. "Don't pout because it makes you look sad."
"I'm going to get sad if my Father doesn't stop acting like a jackass."
"He's being the protective Father type."
"He's being an asshole." I mutter.
"I'm fine." Harry says with a chuckle. My Father returns from the kitchen with a water.
"Eve, your brothers will be here any minute. Can you help me bring the stuff outside? I would ask your guy friend but he looks a little weak."
"Are you calling me manly?" I question my Father.
"No, but I raised you to carry stuff. C'mon."
"I think Harry should help." I say with a warm smile. "That will be alright, right Dad?" I ask.
"Sure, why not?" My Father huffs. I look to Harry who has the same look of nervousness.
"I'll put the ice in a tub." I say in a peppy voice.
Harry POV
"Grab those." Eve's father tells me while pointing to the countertop in the kitchen. I lift up the meat he told me to get. It's a few pounds of meat.
We step outside and I place it by the barbecue. "So," Mr. Collins starts. "Why are you with Eve?"
"Because I like her." I say. His eyes glance up at me.
"I'd hope." He says. "I mean, you look like a decent guy I just believe she's meant for someone else."
"Who? John?" I ask.
"She's talked about him?" Mr. Collins questions. His voice sound hopeful.
"About stuff he's done." I find myself saying.
"Like?" Her father's eyes glance to me. He puts the burgers in an ice container.
"Uh, just stuff she should tell you one day." I murmur.
"Is it stuff that I would be mad about?" Yes.
"I mean," I pause. "Um, they're broken up for a reason."
"He's a good guy though." Mr. Collins says. "It didn't take me long to like John. He just had this thing about him that I liked." I bite down on jaw.
"So, what would I have to do for you to like me then?" I ask.
"Get John and Eve back together and I'd consider you Jesus." Ouch.
"Can't do anything there." I wish Eve would would tell her Father about how John hurt her.
"Then it looks like I won't like you then." Mr. Collins says. "Are we on the same page?"
"Sure." I murmur.
These two days are going to be hell.
