Construction Fireflies
A shower of sparks falls down my window
Like summer fireflies
Embers in the sky
Falling down from the construction site
Of my home
As metal whines against metal
The walls tremble
The air is lifted with heat and grit
And a thin layer of debris dusts the grass
As the embers dwindle into fading stars
The day shift ends, and night awakes its luminescent cousins
Lime yellow fireflies
Diffusing into the sky
Sometimes reaching my window
Sometimes, I mistake them for the city of lights.
Ah, summer....the season of construction. It was awesome watching the sparks fall down my window. Any moment I feel it's going to catch fire, but they bounce off harmlessly.
