~from (y/n)'s POV~
You woke up hours later to find multiple faces hovering above you - Levi, Eren, Sasha, Jean, Marco, Erwin...

"What happened?" you asked, blinking.

Levi scowled at you. "You're such a f**king idiot, (y/n)," he snapped before stalking off. Eren and Erwin yelled after him, but you ignored them, caught in your own web of questions.

What...happened?

~from Levi's POV~

You stood up and strode away from (y/n), fists clenched at your side.

(Y/n) had disappeared after dinner, but when you'd brought it up, Erwin smiled apologetically and just said that she'd be back by nightfall, but when night came and (y/n) wasn't back...

You had gone off to search for her and had scoured nearly half the park before returning to the base when you got the idea to check the Ferris wheel.

There (y/n) was, curled up in the seat and listening to music.

Listening to music.

The music app burns the phone battery.

How long has she been out here? A few hours? How much battery did she have then?

Depending on the make and model...Older cell phones had shorter battery lives, and the longer you hung onto a model, the more unpredictable a battery can be.

And (y/n) isn't moving.

An image of Hanji flashed in your head, her smile fading as her body hit the ground, and your heart began beating faster as you ran towards the Ferris wheel cart.

"(Y/N)!" you yelled, closing the last few feet and shaking (y/n).

(Y/n) didn't open her eyes.

"(Y/n)!" you shouted again, fumbling to find a pulse, but you were too unsteady. You forced yourself to calm down after a few seconds and pressed two fingers to her throat...

...soft, and perhaps too slow, but it's there...

Giving himself a second to feel relieved, you traced the trail of her ear buds to her phone and gently slipped it out of her grasp, hitting the home button.

The screen flared to life. Annoyed and concerned, you flicked the brightness down to 0 before checking her battery.

6%.

You clenched your jaw but wasted no time in lifting (y/n) into your arms and carrying her back to the base.

Eren met you there, his concern growing as he saw (y/n)'s condition.

Before he could ask anything, you just glared. "Get me a charger, now!"

Eren nodded, running off to locate one as you set (y/n) down on the table.

"How is she?" Erwin asked uncertainly, his eyebrows furrowed in genuine concern, but you hated the bastard nonetheless and proceeded to ignore him rather than swear at him or yell at him.

"Found one," Eren panted, running over with a charger dangling from his hand. "Cell...phone?"

Instead of handing it over, you took the charger from his hands and personally made sure it was plugged in before attaching it to (y/n)'s phone.

Sighing, you went back to (y/n). She was still - too still - and that disturbed you on a level that you would not put words to. She looks like Hanji did when she...

You clenched your jaw and tried to be patient, but within ten minutes, you were pacing near the table, and by twenty minutes, you couldn't help but go over to check (y/n)'s phone battery. She should be at ten percent by now, so why isn't she waking up?!

But when you hit the home button on (y/n)'s phone, your blood ran cold.

2%.

Wait, no...that can't be right...

But you stared at the number, and it didn't change...

A few seconds later, it dropped to 1%.

What the f**k?!

And then you looked more closely and realized that the battery symbol didn't have the little lightning bolt.

But I plugged in (y/n)'s phone myself!

You checked just in case, but everything was plugged in correctly.

Which means...

"The charger is dead," you murmured.

"What?" Eren asked, frowning from near the table.

"Get another charger! This one is dead!" You winced at your own word choice. "HURRY, EREN! SHE'S AT 1%!"

There was swearing, and a few seconds later, you heard Eren ruffling through bags, trying to locate another charger, but you knew that (y/n) didn't have that much time, especially not with how fast her battery was dying. Without thinking, you took a two-way aux cord from your pocket and plugged on end into (y/n)'s phone and the other into yours. The way the cord worked was that it would take battery from whichever had more and attempt to equalize battery level between the two devices.

In essence, you were trading some of your life to prolong (y/n)'s.

***

By the time Eren managed to snag a working charger, (y/n) was hovering at about 8%, and you were down to 24%. Still, you hurriedly plugged (y/n)'s phone into the new charger and sighed in relief as the little lightning bolt popped up.

Exhausted, you leaned against the wall. You'd charge yourself a bit after (y/n) stabilized, but until then, you'd just have to wait.

Something was bothering you, though...

When you'd disconnected your phone from (y/n)'s, you felt a bit of warmth leave you, like a presence had exited from your soul.

You didn't know what was worse - feeling cold all over when it was gone, or getting a taste - even for a short time - of warmth you had never experienced.

~from (y/n)'s POV~

"Levi saved my life?" you asked, shocked, and Eren nodded, looking perpetually worried, and you flinched when you realized that you were likely the sole proponent of his anxiety. You started to get up, but Eren gently pushed you back down.

"You need rest-"

"I was just in a coma," you pointed out.

"But still," Eren insisted stubbornly, clearly not about to let you out of his sight now that you'd nearly gone off and died on him.

You laid back down once you realized that he wasn't going to let you sneak away again, but as he babbled on, you couldn't help but tune him out due to a question that was troubling you...

What was that warmth I felt?
