~Jean's POV~
(Y/n) didn't come out of her tent this morning. I'm not sure if I should go in and talk to her, or if she just needs some time to be alone.
But then I can't help wondering if she's...you know...dead...and my breathing constricts and I can't think straight. She was the only person I had left with Marco gone.
So I kept wanting to go in and check on her, but Levi's suspicions kept me away. It wasn't that I suspected (y/n) of being a murderer; it's just that Levi seems to think (y/n) seduced me into making a plan, and I don't want to give that crackshot theory any credibility.
But when (y/n) still hadn't come out by noon, I was worried.
"(Y/n)?" I called out, gently pushing aside her tent flap. "I'm coming in, okay? It's me, Jean," I added as an afterthought, poking my head in.
(Y/n) was lying on the ground.
Is she breathing? Dear God, please, please let her be breathing...
I took her pulse with trembling fingers, pressing them lightly against her neck. I sighed in relief as I felt a definite throb.
"Hey, (y/n)," I said, laughing weakly. "You really scared me. You looked like you were..." I trailed off as I saw the color in her face, the shallowness of her breathing. "(Y/n)? Are you okay?"
Frantically, I searched for her cell phone. It wasn't on the ground near her, and it wasn't in her pockets.
I stared at her chest shyly, wondering if she'd kept it in there like I'd heard of some girls doing, but there was no way in hell that I was going to check there. Besides, (y/n) didn't seem like that kind of girl.
Which meant...
...that (y/n) was sick, and her cell phone was gone.
Which was a big problem.

~from Levi's POV~
"Levi!" Kirstein yelled, running towards me. "Levi!"
"What?" I snapped. I wasn't sure why I didn't like this guy, but I absolutely did not. "Is somebody dead? If there's no body, then don't bother me."
"It's (y/n)," he said, panting as he reached me. "She's sick or something."
"...and...?" I tried to ignore the way my heartbeat sped up when he mentioned her, or the concern I tried to ignore when he mentioned her condition.
"And I can't find her cell phone!"
Well. Trying to ignore my conscience, I just turned away with disinterest. "She's probably sick because she hasn't been sleeping lately, and her immune system is suffering because of it. As for the rest of it, it seems like a plan the two of you hatched to clear her from suspicion, so I'm not sure that I believe you." Whether that was what you really felt or not didn't matter.
"Levi! This is serious! Stop being such a useless asshole and do something!"
"What do you want me to do?" I asked, glaring at him. "Find her cell phone somewhere is a huge amusement park? Magically heal her illness? Clear her of suspicion and find the real murderer?"
"Levi-"
"Levi!" someone else yelled, and I pressed the base of my palm against my forehead, trying to stave off the inevitable headache birthed of annoyance and too much damn telling of my name. After a second, I turned to see Eren running toward me from the opposite direction.
"Levi! Armin's dead," Eren said, crying.
I stiffened. "What? How?" I stood up. "Take me there."
"What about (y/n)?" Kirstein asked, scowling.
"I hope she feels better," I said before going off after Eren.
I could feel Jean's disgust following me, but what was I supposed to do? Keep giving (y/n) special treatment, only to find out that she's a murderer?
Like I said, I've had bad relationships, but I'd rather not go there.
So instead, I prepared myself to observe the crime scene of the latest corpse.
***
The body was in the bottom cart of the Ferris wheel. The cause of death was unclear for a moment until I looked down to see Armin's phone in a puddle of water.
Just like Hanji.
Drawing in a breath, I dragged my eyes away from the phone and back to Armin. His eyes were still open, bulging from his sockets, and his limbs were splayed at awkward angles, as though he'd just had a seizure.
Like Hanji, when her phone hit the water and she started twitching, and then her blood vessels popped and she-
I shook my head, trying to ignore the gruesome images in my head.
It wasn't my fault. I couldn't save Hanji. There was nothing I could have done to prevent her death. It was an accident. An accident.
Just like Armin's death apparently.
Except...
Armin's phone was face down. If he had been holding it and had accidentally dropped it, it was far more likely that it would have landed face-up.
And...the phone was centered in the puddle, where the water was the deepest. As though it had been placed there intentionally.
As though somebody had murdered Armin, only they'd made it look like an accident.
"Eren, when did this happen?"
Eren shrugged, his face still wet with tears. "I don't know. I saw him last night, but he was gone this morning, and when I went to find him, I found-"
I nodded as he proceeded to break down again. So the established timeline was from last night to this morning.
Awfully coincidental how (y/n) was unusually sick all of a sudden and wasn't available to answer any questions.
Hm.
Maybe I would go and see her to confirm that.
I got up, leaving Armin's body where it was, and went back to camp. I had someone to talk to.
