~from (y/n)'s POV~
First Sasha. Now Marco.
You collapsed to your knees, trembling violently. Marco's fingers were still twitching from the electricity coursing through him.
I should move him...get him out of the fence...
The sight was too awful to bear. You dragged yourself forward and were about to gently tug Marco's body when strong arms pulled you back.
"What the hell are you thinking?! If you touch him, you could be electrocuted too!"
Hearing the voice of the second-to-last person you wanted to see, you first went still and then tried to escape his grasp.
"(Y/n)!" he shouted, pulling you closer still. "Stop it! I'm trying to keep you safe!"
"Let go of me! Take your hands off me right now!"
He didn't, but his grip loosened somewhat. He was probably still worried that you were going to end up electrocuting yourself. "Look, (y/n)...I'm sorry. About Annie."
"I don't want to hear it!"
"(Y/n), listen to me."
"No."
"(Y/n)-"
"ERWIN THERE IS A DEAD BODY FIVE FEET AWAY AND THE LAST FRICKIN THING I WANT TO TALK ABOUT IS YOUR CHICK ON THE SIDE!"
He was quiet. Erwin - it had been Erwin who had saved you.
Not the crow-haired boy you'd desperately wanted in that moment. The arms that encircled yours...how many times had you imagined them as his?
And then he arrived. The person you least wanted to see, although part of you still craved his attention.
But you didn't have it. You knew that now. It had all been fake. In the end, he'd gone to Annie. So had Erwin. That was probably going to be the story of your life. You loved, but never enough to give yourself.
And then they took their love to someone else.
Levi noticed Erwin's hands restraining you, and he growled. "Take your hands off her."
"I'm keeping her safe!" Erwin snapped back.
The two of them kept arguing while your brain turned in circles.
Marco...he was so nice...who would ever want to kill him? Definitely not Jean, his best friend.
Jean...
With a start, you realized that Jean didn't know that his best friend was now dead, that his body was being electrified.
You broke out of Erwin's arms and ran back towards the tents, ignoring the shouting behind you and racing on ahead until you stumbled into camp and headed for Jean's tent, hearing footprints behind you.
"Jean! JEAN!"
The tent moved slightly as Jean shifted inside before stepping out sans shirt, wearing only a pair of boxers. "What?!"
"It's Marco! He's-"
"What's wrong with Marco?" Jean asked, eyes widening. "Where is he?"
"He's dead," you whispered.
"Stop joking around! It isn't f**king funny!" Jean yelled, taking a step toward you, and you tried to back up, tripping and falling onto the ground and skinning your elbows. Blood began to accumulate at the cuts as you stared up in fear at Jean, waiting for him to move.
Would he take your phone and crush it?
You weren't sure. Grief did weird things to people.
"Where is he?" Jean ground out at last, avoiding eye contact with you so he wouldn't end up hurting you.
"B-by the fence," you whispered back, and then Jean was gone.
Someone helped you up. "(Y/n)-"
Again, not the person you wanted.
"Erwin, just leave me alone."
"(Y/n), I...I can't."
You turned around to face him. "Erwin, you didn't care when I was dating you and you were sleeping around, but you care when I break up with you and you're still probably sleeping around?"
"I haven't slept with Annie in two days!"
"...and that's supposed to help how?"
"I just..." He blew out a breath. "I took you for granted. I know that. But Annie's honestly a b*tch and even if she's good in bed-"
You coughed.
"-she's not you."
"Well, obviously not. I'm just the girl you take home to your mom for Sunday dinners," you snapped, recalling Levi's words, and they made you even angrier.
"(Y/n), I'll be honest. I got bored of our relationship going nowhere. It became dull for me. But when you broke up with me, I don't know, it kind of made things exciting again."
"So you want to get back together because me breaking up with you made you happy."
"Kind of, yeah! And you're yelling at me and talking back and making mean jokes, and it's a lot more real than before, you know? Like you're not trying to be perfect anymore."
"I was never trying to be perfect, Erwin, you idiot. I was trying to be nice and respectable."
"Well, maybe I like this mean and disrespectful side of you too. Maybe even more. It's kind of hot."
You frowned, unsure how to act. Was this normal in a relationship? "But you said you don't like Annie because she's a b*tch."
"Well, yeah. She's just indifferent. It's not funny. But you - you're funny, even when you're mean. It kind of turns me on."
"Stop right there." You glared at him. "I don't want to touch you. I don't want to sleep with you. I don't even want to kiss you."
"But that makes it all the more fun and challenging for me," he answered readily.
"Yeah, well, I hate you."
"I can fix that."
Oh, to hell with this son of a b*tch. "Just go f**k Annie or something."
"Is that a command or are you just being-"
"SHUT UP." You turned around, massaging your forehead. Erwin was the last thing you wanted to waste your time thinking about. Rather...
"Marco..." you whispered. You'd half-forgotten about him. Suddenly, Jean's face flashed in your mind, half-terror, half-denial. You had half a mind to run after him...but the other half of you was scared to see him. To think that maybe, he'd blame half of Marco's death on you.
You didn't want Jean to hate you. You needed to talk with him, somehow.
You looked over your shoulder at the waste of space standing behind you, half-way between Annie's tent and Jean's.
"Leave me alone."
Then you went inside Jean's tent to wait for his return.
A/N: I try not to do author notes cause they're a waste of your time, but what the heck. I know I haven't updated in a while. Whoops. Anywho, comment & vote, and please share it. I had a lot of readers for most of my stories on Quotev, but I killed my account to write here instead. So please spread the word. It's more fun to write when I know people are actually going to read.
Thanks & have a merry Christmas!
