~from (y/n)'s POV~
As Levi said that, your mind went blank.
"L-Levi?"
"What?" he asked, turning to you. The two of you were only a few feet away, and you were glad to have him close, for various reasons.
"S-Sasha and I shared a tent..."
Levi paused, unsure of how to respond. "I'm sorry."
"No, it's just, you got my cell phone for me..."
"And?" His eyes narrowed a moment later as he figured out what you were getting at. "And your cell phone was in a different tent. So why was Sasha in someone else's?" He cast a cursory glance behind him at where Sasha's body lay. "Who's tent is this?"
Eren paled. "That's the one we share, Levi."
"Then why the hell is Sasha in our tent?" Levi snapped.
"Was," Jean said softly. "Sasha was."
Marco looked ready to cry. "Why is this happening?"
"It might not even be one of us," Annie spoke, and everyone got quiet. "We don't know why we're trapped in here anyway. Could be the same person."
"That's helpful," Levi muttered, glaring at her, and you couldn't help but wonder if he didn't like her because of her personality or because he pitied your situation.
"Hey, asshole. It could have been you," she said, glaring back at him. "Sasha was murdered in your tent. Where were you?"
"Not screwing Er-" Levi began to say, but you elbowed him in his rib cage. He coughed. "I took a walk."
"Where did you go?" Annie asked, her face blank but her eyes ruthless.
"Just around camp," Levi said, matching her eyes.
"Do you have any witnesses to support your alibi?"
Levi paused, and you knew that he was reluctant to mention you.
Why? Is he embarrassed that we were alone? Does he not want anyone else to know?
Another thought. Is he trying to protect me? Does he not want to tell Erwin?
When you realized that he couldn't make up his mind, you stepped forward. "I went on a walk with him."
Annie's gaze turned to you, and you shrank an inch. "Oh? Why were you out of your tent that late?"
"Couldn't sleep." You swallowed.
"Why were you with Levi?" she asked, Erwin beside her, crossing his arms. You couldn't tell if he was angry at you, or if he just plain didn't care at all.
You weren't sure which one hurt worse.
"I don't know. We just walked around and talked."
"What did you talk about?"
"Enough," Levi said, stepping in front of you, a shield. "Stop the interrogation already. She's had a long night."
Erwin frowned, but Annie just stared at Levi for a long second before turning to Eren. "And where were you?"
"I had to go to the bathroom," Eren said, blushing and looking down.
Annie waited a long second before nodding and turning back.
"Where are you going?" Levi asked, narrowing his eyes toward the small of her back.
"To my tent. It's late. I'm going back to sleep."
"Sasha's dead and you want to sleep?" Jean asked in skepticism, his face tightening from anger.
"Didn't know her that well. Night."
Annie left.
"I'm tired too," Erwin said, rubbing the back of his neck. "We'll talk about this in the morning. Night."
Everyone slowly went back to their tents until only you, Levi, and Eren remained.
"You guys can share my tent," you offered. "I mean, I have room now because- Sasha-"
Levi went to pat your head, but because you were so tall and he was so...not tall..., he could only pat your shoulder. "You two take (y/n)'s tent. I'll go sleep with Marco and Jean." Before Levi left, he had a word with Eren that left the younger boy pale, and then Levi was gone. Suddenly, the night air felt colder, the shadows longer, and you wished he hadn't left.
"Let's go then," you said to Eren, forcing a smile, and the two of you went to your tent. You took the far left, and Eren took the far right, probably because of something Levi had said.
The thought made you smile, just a little, but the memory of Sasha's body fractured what little warmth you'd just conceived.
You spent the rest of the night clutching your cell phone and having nightmare after nightmare, some with Annie, some with Erwin, but most with Sasha.
You weren't sure if you'd ever be able to sleep easily again.
