21: Free Kick
Lucy
The rest of the half, Kim and Jack couldn't stop talking about me. Whenever I had the ball, they'd say something. I didn't exactly lose the ball but I had to pass it off before I could do something stupid with it.
My plan was set to motion. The moment I got the ball, I'd shoot. Same with Gray and Natsu even if the ball would sail right by the goal posts. I could see that Phantom was getting flustered with every shot. They lost the ball to us almost way too easily. Victor hasn't made an unfair call quite yet but he still does turn his blind eyes when Phantom wants to start playing American Football. I got rammed several more times from different people. Gajeel had his share of bruising me. That or Natsu's just doing a very good job keeping him busy with the Salamander's crazy shots as well. Since they confirmed I was indeed the Celestial Striker, a goal from mid-field is not a hard task for me. The Element 4 are starting to come closer and closer to me whenever I have the ball.
By the time minute 89 came rolling around, I was able to easily take the ball all the way down the field. I only had to beat two defenders before it was a one on one situation against the goalie. The goalie was fed up with me so he started running forward. I could chip the ball right there but where's the show in that, right? So instead I tapped the ball and rolled it backwards, surprising the keeper who was already sliding towards the ball. The power he used behind his slide was only enough to reach me, but not for a certain player who was a few feet behind me.
Erza put the goal in nice and easy.
Victor blew the whistle for the equalizer.
I gave her a sideways hug as we started walking back towards the middle of the field together. Our fans chanting her name filled our ears. The rest of Fairy Tail came up to us and gave us both hugs.
'Not too fancy but definitely not too dull. Just a perfect chip from the very smart captain of Fairy Tail, Jack?'
'I am amazed at that. Heartfilia's little back pass did seem to surprise the keeper. That single moment of hesitation brought Fairy Tail back into the game. I wonder if Phantom has what it takes to get themselves ahead of Fairy Tail like they had the majority of the game. The referee has signaled three minutes added time.'
Phantom didn't waste another minute as they passed the ball off to begin the game again. Juvia had the ball running down. She made her way passed some of our players but she then stopped at Gray. He was hunched over, eyes completely focused on her. She doesn't move.
I softly ran up behind her ready to assist Gray in any way possible. His dark eyes suddenly turned into complete confusion at something on our opponent's face. The winger than simply pushed the ball laying between them through her legs a few seconds later right into my feet.
Juvia didn't know what was happening until Gray was passed her and I gave the ball to him so I could return to my position.
We ran in line, Natsu on my other side. Gray easily slips passed two other Element 4 members as well as two defenders before passing it into the open space right in front of me. I make one last sprint for it.
I felt this giant hand grab onto my jersey and yank me completely back. No, I was thrown like a little toy behind the giant all too familiar body. Gajeel...
I didn't let this daze me. I rolled backwards onto my feet again and I was after the ball just like that, passing by Gajeel on the way. He reached out again but this time instead of my jersey, he grabbed my hair. I yelped in pain as the captain pulled me back.
"Lucy!" I heard several call me but the pain was almost deafening to make out who is who. I tried to grab Gajeel's gloved hands but it didn't do any good.
"Come on ref!" somebody called from the stands. Boos followed as well as insults being thrown at Phantom.
"That was a foul!"
"He's hurting her!"
"Call it you blind asshole!"
For the first time that night, Victor made a call in favor of Fairy Tail.
Gajeel's hand left my hair as I feel limp onto the grass. The tears of the pain starting to blur my vision. Several sets of hands are on my back, soothing me a bit.
"Imma kill him," a familiar growl, growled.
"Don't Natsu," I said, wiping the tears. "I'm fine."
Two hands snaked themselves under my arms and I was lifted off the ground once again. This time it wasn't painful but it sure was surprising. I knew Natsu was a strong person despite his smaller posture compared to most guys but he was able to pull me out of the circle Erza, Cana, and Gray formed. He placed me back on my feet.
"Brush it off," he smiled at me. "We can still win. This free kick is 32 yards out. Nothing too hard for you, huh?"
His hand patted my shoulder, "Let's win this game, together."
Victor called us together signaling we had a minute before the final whistle blew. Gajeel was cursing under his breath as he was called over to make the standing wall.
The free kick was at an angle, on the right side of the field. A goal from this angle, I'll admit, is a challenge. I tightened my ponytail standing at the place where Victor placed the ball before pulling out a bottle and drew a curve on the ground to make sure I'm not moving the ball. He met my eyes, "Make this goal, Celestial Striker. That's what you're best known for."
I blinked as he made his way over to the wall of Phantom people. More specifically, the Element 4 with Gajeel standing dead center. Loke was standing a little behind them. He winked with a smile at me for reassurance. The rest of the team were standing in the box awaiting any rebound.
"Come on, Blondie," Gajeel growled with a smirk. "I dare you to score."
I narrowed my eyes at him. That guy has been the reason why we lost three goals (yep a hat trick). He's also the one who's hurt not only me but Levy, Jet, and Droy; three of my friends. He flipping crucified them with nails and shit just to scare us off. Natsu said he'll make them pay for hurting me. I'll make them pay for laying a finger on my friends.
"YOU CAN DO IT, LU!!!" a high scream surprised us all.
I looked up into the crowd and there she was, in crutches but alive and well, Levy waving at us frantically. Jet and Droy stood a little behind her but they were smiling at all of us. I nearly cried with relief at the sight of them. They're alive, they're okay. My friend winked at me and gave me a thumbs up, "Score this goal, Lu."
I nodded at her with a bright smile before turning my attention back to the five-person wall in front of me. I scanned for any openings. Much to my luck, Gajeel being in the middle, he stood right beside the really tall guy responsible for half of Jellal's and Erza's injuries. There's a giant gap between their heads.
Victor returned to his place not too far behind me. After this kick, the game is over. It's either we end this with three more points added into Fairy Tail's overall score or we only end up with one.
I don't care about that...
The whole stadium was shutting up. Even the Phantom Lord fans knew better than to say some stupid shit to mess me up. They would be making a trip to the hospital if they were going to sabotage this free kick for me.
I took two steps back.
Breath.
Victor raises a hand giving me the green light.
I stood a few seconds longer, glaring down the wall.
"Come at us, Blondie," Gajeel smirked again.
I bounced twice, "With pleasure."
