17: Let the Match Begin!
Lucy
I just realized something pretty crazy. Crazy awesome, too!
I'm about to start in an official FC match with Fairy Tail! It's awesome my official official first match of legit soccer among grown ups. As we stood in line, side by side with Phantom holding hands of the little children of Magnolia who was picked for this amazing opportunity, I couldn't stay on my toes that long.
Natsu was in front of me, equally as excited if not more. He kept bouncing and joking with the kid he held hands with. The little girl I had at my side was quieter than the one Natsu had.
"Alright buddy," Natsu gave him a fist bump. "Fairy Tail's gonna win this one so I expect you to cheer the loudest."
The kid met Natsu's fist with his very own tiny one, "You better win, mister! My dad you'd win and he's never wrong!"
"I promise you, kid," Natsu gave him a giant smile. "I'm all fired up."
Erza grinned out of the corner of her mouth, the kid she held hands with was a little older than the others but he was quiet. Even he knows not to mess with the captain of Fairy Tail.
"Miss," I felt a tiny tug from my child.
"What is it Suzy?"
She didn't reply right away but then she asked, shyly, "I've never seen you around before but if you're in Fairy Tail than you're a good player, huh? I want to be like you when I grow up!"
Her tiny exclamation caught many attention. Gray, who was behind me, chuckled, "Aww Lucy is a fine mother."
"Who's the father than?" I asked him.
"That's not a question Lucy," we both turned to Natsu. "I'm the father of you're the mother."
He's proclamation caused the entire Fairy Tail line, minus the confused kids, to burst out laughing. Even Erza was laughing loudly... oh and me? Not so much...
I'm more of a tomato right now.
All the while Fairy Tail was still recovering from Natsu, I glanced at the Phantom Lord line. Not a single sense of humor on any of their faces.
"No way man," Gray recovered. "I want to be the father if Lucy's the mother."
More laughter erupted amongst my teammates. This time, there was a reaction coming from cuckoo hut lady. She gazed at Gray, quite too fondly... not gazed, more of watched him with literal love struck eyes.
Yeah, she really needs to calm down.
"Miss," the little girl asked again. I looked at her once again.
"How can you have two men be a daddy and you're the only mommy? I thought it's one mommy to every daddy to have babies."
I growled at my teammates, "You dorks! There are kids here!"
They only laughed harder.
The referees finally showed. The main and the two assistant refs entered without a word to anybody but we knew it's time to shut up. The main, a man who we learned was Victor Gonzales, grabbed the soccer ball on the pedestal and had it by his side. Phantom is wearing their black uniform. We were wearing our white. Elfman's uniform was all red. Phantom's goalie wore all purple. The refs wore light green so they stuck out like sore thumbs.
Victor didn't wait too long before he started the walk onto the field. Elfman and Phantom's goalie followed suit, leading the rest of the line out.
This time I squinted. The Fairy Tail FC field is huge. We had four giant TVs one the four sides of the field. The lights were cleaned recently so the shined brighter than usual. The crowd was unusually loud today... no surprised. We are playing long internal rivals.
'There they are folks! The rivals of Fiore playing on the home grass of Fairy Tail!'
At the mention of Fairy Tail, the cheering increased in impossible volume. A few boos were heard but the cheers overtook everything.
'My name is Jack Norma! It is such an honor to be a commenter for this legendary match, Kim!'
'Right you are Jack. I am Kim Hill, and I will be working alongside Jack today in this match.'
The little kids were told to leave by Victor, which they did with huge smiles. Suzy, the little girl I was with, gave me a hug before running off. It wasn't long before the refs called in captains. Erza walked by me, a smile on her face.
The rest of Fairy Tail were checking their gears and stretching any last minute cold muscles they could think of. I was bouncing on my feet, awaiting our Captain's return.
I've never been so excited! I only hope that we can win this game. Phantom has done their share of terror, now it's our turn to show them up.
"We get this side of the field, their ball first," Erza announced as she was returning, arms crossed face discontent.
The starters gathered around her, just as Jellal asked, "What's wrong?"
"I won the coin toss," she said. "But they said Phantom did. I knew for sure what I saw land on his hand was heads, not tails. I called it..."
"What?" I exclaimed.
Erza shook her head, "I might've been seeing things."
We heard the soft footsteps of our Coach. Macao and I moved to the side allowing our tiny coach some space. Once in the middle he cleared his throat, "Alright Fairy Tail, this is going to be one of the biggest matches we will ever have. Today, the key is to focus on your skills as well as being aware of where your fellow teammates are. I want to see that teamwork is the upmost priority tonight."
"Yes, sir!"
Makarov smiled at us, "I'm so proud of all of you. We're going to win against Phantom Lord than it's round of 16 for us."
"Hey don't worry Gramps!" Natsu shouted. "We're gonna win this without any problems! I'm all fired up now!"
Coach Makarov looked at each and every one of us in turn. His gaze rested on mines a little longer than the others. He gave me a wink before addressing Natsu, "Take them out, Natsu."
Natsu proudly lifted his head and yelled at the top of his lungs, "What has wings and could fly at the speed of light?!"
"Fairy Tail!"
"What can always bring home the win?!"
"Fairy Tail!"
"In two words, what is family?!"
"Fairy Tail!" At the last one, our hands shot up; I could feel the honor and pride of pointing to the sky, the sign of being a proud Fairy Tail player.
