12: The Work of Satan

Lucy

It was... fun.

Erza and I shared my bed while Natsu and Gray ruled themselves up in the extra futons I had. They didn't stop bickering until nearly 2AM when their arguments became snoring.

Erza and I slept through it no problem, though. Probably because practice wore us our completely. But we have the day off tomorrow so it shouldn't be so bad, right?

Boy was I wrong.

It was about six in the morning. The morning sunrays poured through the window when I heard my phone vibrate on the bedside table.

I didn't take long to grab it. But answering it was a challenge. The number was Magnolia local number so I paid no mind and picked up.

"Hello?" I said, my voice as weak as can be.

"Lucy," Coach Makarov's voice made me shoot straight up.

"Yes, sir, good morning."

"I got an anonymous tip just now telling me to head to South Gate Park for a little surprise," he said. "Since you live in the area and Gray, Erza and Natsu spent the night at your place, can you please check it out for me?"

I nodded but remembered that I'm on the phone, "Right away, sir!"

I hung up first, and threw my phone back onto the bedside table. Turning to my captain, I poked her, "Wake up, Erza. Coach just sent us on a quick errand for him."

She stirred before opening one eye, "This early?"

"I'm afraid so."

"Fine," she groaned. "Get the boys up. I can change I'm 30 secs."

I jumped out of bed then started poking Gray who woke up slowly. I walked around the left winger to his partner, sleeping at the base of the TV. I bent over, index finger at ready.

Inches before, my finger touched his cheek it stopped. My brown eyes, locked on his peaceful face. This wouldn't be the first time I secretly admire his face when he's sleeping. But it never stop being attractive. I grinned when I finally tapped his cheek.

"Natsu get up," I poked it three times before he jerked, eyes never opening.

"Whats tis?" He said, sleep still in his voice. "You picking a fight with me, Stripper?!"

Uh oh...

Salamander lashed out a fist straight into the air. Thank my ninja skills because I fell on my butt just in time.

"Natsu!" I snapped loudly.

His eyelids finally lifted, his dragon like pupils scanning the room, confused. Then his eyes shot open as well as his body.

"Luce!" Natsu's giant very warm hands cup my cheeks.

It was my turn to be surprised and confused. W-what is he doing? Not that I don't mind but why is he doing this?

"I didn't punch you, did I?" He asked, his eyes looking all over my face making me blush under his touch and eyes. "Dammit. I was dreaming I was beating the living shit out of Gray and I think I might of punch you."

I rubbed his soft pink hair. When I say soft I mean it's literally a soft fluffy pillow, "Get up we have to run an errand."

I guess we were just lucky that Gray was in the bathroom changing so he didn't hear Natsu's idiotic comment. Otherwise, Erza and I would be breaking apart one of their fist fights yet again.

Natsu changed into a simple white t-shirt with his scaly scarf and dark jeans in the kitchen as Erza and I worked on ourselves in the living room.

I pulled my hair put of my own shirt just as Gray remerged into the living room. Erza was dressed in a white blouse completed with a blue skirt and knee high brown leather boots. Standing next to her, I felt completely out of place. I'm wearing a white Nike shirt and short shorts with indoor cleats. That's it. I'm a fashion horror, I know.

Gray was just wearing a black v neck and some jeans, nice and simple.

We started making out way towards Southgate Park about a mile away in a pretty happy mood despite it being six AM. Even Natsu and Gray's getting along much to my surprise. Erza was just walking beside me, a high smile on her face.

Magnolia's beautiful fall air was quite relaxing. It does beat the Haregon salty sea breeze despite the amount of cars are in the city.

When Southgate started coming to view, I knew there was something wrong. The amount of people crowded around the main Magnolia tree in the middle was disturbing enough.

I sprinted forward with the rest of the way, my teammates right on my tail. We arrived at the outskirts of the crowd. Some noticed us and looked shock.

"That's some of Fairy Tail FC players," one woman whispered.

"Have they seen it yet?" Another woman said.

"I can't imagine what they'll think."

"This is absolutely inhumane!"

Erza, fed up with the words, started making her way into the crowd, "Excuse us, please."

When we finally reached the front of the crowd, I looked up at the sight that has everybody gathered.

The sight... it was sickening, it was beyond, beyond evil. The work of Satan himself almost. I clasped a hand over my mouth, tears threatening to fall from my eyes, bile not so far behind.

Levy was there, no, was nailed to to the tree part of her shirt ripped open, her face and body bruised. Blood spilling out her mouth. Two other teammates, Jet and Droy our two wing defenders, were right next to her in the same exact condition. Unconcious, nailed to to the tree by only their hands, and clothes ripped revealing their stomachs. On it, some sort of familiar insignia. I raked my memories trying to figure out what it was. I've seen it before, I know for sure. It's -

Phantom Lord FC?!!

What kind of monster would do this to healthy humans anyway?!

I felt Natsu take a few steps forward his eyes wide, anger hurt and every negative emotion possible glistened in his eyes. Gray gritted his teeth tightly; his jaw clenched angrily. Erza, who looked like she was going to slice buildings in half just to find the bastard reponsible for this, calmly took her phone out and dial some number.

"They're going to pay," I turned back to Natsu, who's growl was defiantly not human.

I could see his hard muscle tense up, veins pulsing and visible on his forehead. He didn't look human himself but I'm not afraid. He has every right to be the way he is right now.

"They'll pay," he continued. "For hurting one of our family! They're going to pay with their dear life!!!"
