"She was alone. I left her. I told her I'd take care of her. She trusted me. She was alone. I left her. I told her I'd take care of her. She trusted me. She was alone. I left her. I told her I'd take care of her. She trusted me. ShewasaloneIlefthershewasaloneIlefthershetrustedmeshetrustedmeSHETRUSTEDME-!"
Moon carefully unclasps Sun's hands from tugging any harder on his rays. "Shhh, calm down, Sunny. Listen to me. She's going to be okay. You didn't do anything wrong, Sun."
"But-but, I left her alone, I-I should have stayed-"
"No, that's on me, Sun, I convinced you to leave. We didn't know she had appendicitis."
Sun shakes his head, bending his knees down and collapsing onto the pavement mumbling manically, "Nonononono, it's all my fault-it's all my fault!"
Moon sighs sadly. There's not much he can do when Sunny falls into a panic filled spiral. Before, he would listen and watch from their shared headspace, futilely trying to talk him out of it and comfort him to no avail.
The lunar bot bends down as well, a hand on his brother's shoulder. "Come on, Sunshine, can you stand up for me?" When Sun doesn't move, Moon hooks his arms under his and easily lifts him. "Oof!" Moon huffs as he attempts to lug the hysteric animatronic up the steps to their home.
When the two finally get back inside, Sun breaks from his brother's arms and darts into the bathroom, quickly shutting and locking the door. "Ah, Sun-no! Come on!" Moon stretches his hand into the empty air.
He wants to scream. Everything has gone wrong and it's his fault. Not Sunny's. He convinced him to go out, not the other way around. It's his fault his brother is spiraling in the bathroom. He can't do anything to help him or Codie. Why? Why is he so useless!?
Moon paces the hallway for about an hour when there was a knock at the door. He stops, red eyes narrowing into pinpricks as he stalks towards the entrance. Who could be knocking at this hour?
The bot practically yanks the door off its hinges, angry and ready to rough up whoever the hell is knocking at their door this late. The man on the other side holds his fist up, eyes open wide in shock. Moon growls at the human. With his lips in a straight line, the man clears his throat, lowering his hand.
"Um, hello, Moon, is it? I'm dropping by to grab Codie a pair of clothes for her to change into tomorrow..." At this, Moon's eyes widen and his pupils enlarge. He just growled at Codie's father!
"I-I-I um, yes of course." Moon steps aside, gesturing for the man to come inside. He looks away guiltily but flinches at a sudden touch on his arm.
"Are you alright?"
"Fine," Moon mumbles.
Codie's dad takes notice of the giant footprints imbedded into the carpet. "Uh...huh..." he says unconvinced. "Uh, which one is Codie's room?" Silently, Moon guides him there, opening the door to let him in. He watches as the human shuffles through Codie's drawers in the dark before turning on the light, wincing at the sudden change.
He jumps, not expecting it but thanks Moon nonetheless. While Moon watches, twiddling with the end of his hat, bell jingling softly, he quietly asks, "Will she be okay?"
Holding all the clothing in a neat pile, the man turns around, giving the bot a soft smile. "She'll be just fine, Moon. I'll bet the surgery is already over." Yeah, Moon heavily searched the internet during his pacing, knowing that they only last about an hour or so. "Oh! I'm sorry, I haven't introduced myself have I? I'm Marvin."
Immediately, Moon puts Marvin into his facial recognition profile, having all the info he needs with a scan of the face. "M' Moon, but it seems like you already knew that..."
"Yes, Codie talks about you two quite a bit, speaking of, where is that brother of yours?" Marvin glances around as he walks out of her room.
"Sun...isn't taking this too well. He's in the bathroom." Moon gestures to said room.
Frowning, Marvin gives it a knock. "Hello? Sun? Can you come out?" After a few seconds of silence, the lock clicks and Sun peers out, rays tucked in his faceplate. "Hey, I'm Codie's dad-"
Marvin doesn't get any further before Sun throws the door open and falls to his knees. "OH I'M SOSOSOSOSO SORRY MR. CODIE'S DAD! IT'S ALL MY FAULT! PLEASE DON'T MAKE HER MOVE OUT WE'RE GOOD ROOMMATES I PROMISE!!" Sun is bent over, practically begging at the man's feet.
Moon facepalms while Marvin chuckles awkwardly. "I-What? No, Sun I'm not forcing her to move out. I'm just here to pick her up a change of clothes." Sun stands up, rays coming out and spinning curiously. "It's not your fault this happened okay? It's no one's fault, I promise."
Moon nods in agreement, glad Marvin can talk some sense into his brother. "C-can we visit her?"
Marvin puts a hand to Sun's shoulder. "Of course you can. She'll be there for a day or two and I'll make sure you guys are on the visitors list, alright?"
Sun hugs him happily. "Th-thank you! Thankyouthankyouthankyou!"
"Okay, I've got to go back now. Take care, you two." Moon opens the front door and as he walks out, he turns around to say, "I can see how much you two care about her. Thank you."
Nodding solemnly, Moon closes the door. "Wh-what did he say? Oh, I never got his name, I need to make a profile..." Sun looks down in thought.
Moon waves him off, "Don't worry about it and his name is Marvin."
"Alright..."
The jesters go back to their bedroom, batteries getting lower and lower and they figured they've stayed up late enough. "Are you alright now?"
"I-I think so... I just feel so bad and I do-don't know how to help..." Moon sighs, Sun's stutter is present only when he's anxious and panicky.
"You're okay. Codie is okay. I'm here." Moon gives Sun a hug, shocking him. "It's late, and we're low. Let's go to bed, okay? We'll visit her bright and early, hmm?" Moon grins, trying to make Sun feel better.
Smiling, Sun gets into bed. "Okay! I'll make her breakfast! I can bring her Switch and we can play games together!" There he is! Now that Sun is feeling better, Moon can rest easy. Sorta. Codie is in the hospital.
Tomorrow's another day.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Moon groans, rubbing his head. He feels like he had the equivalent of a restless night even though he was asleep throughout it. He adjusts his eyes to the light before sitting up. Sun is obviously out in the kitchen, what with the loud whistling and clattering coming from out there.
He sits up and grabs a nearby tote, placing a book or two inside along with his DS. Moon then goes into Codie's room, picking up her Switch and DS, placing the two in the tote as well. What else should he bring? He joins Sun in the kitchen, smelling something sweet.
"What did you make, Sunny?" he asks, flabbergasted at the mess on the counters.
Sun spins, the music he had playing from within him shutting off. "Oh! M-Moon! I didn't know you'd be up so early, heh heh..." He guiltily regards the mess he made. "But-but um! I wasn't sure what Sunbite would feel like...so I made her a bunch of breakfast foods!"
Moon lists; French toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage links, sausage patties (seriously, Sun?) and toast. "Sun..." Moon sighs, rubbing his eyes, "I don't even think we can bring this much food into her room.
Sun glances from his brother to all the food he so lovingly made. "But-"
"Pick two, Sun."
The solar bot groans, grabbing tupperware to put away his creations. "Fine! I'll bring her bacon and... eggs!" Moon helps by packing up the food they're taking while Sun stores the remaining in the fridge.
Moon puts the breakfast in his tote. "Ready to go? I packed the games and food..." He trails off, making sure he isn't forgetting anything.
"Yes! Let's go!" Sun says excitedly, taking the tote from his brother's hands and already heading out the door.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Codie awakened, she was confused and overcome by the smell of antiseptic and disinfectants. She wrinkles her nose, the smell burning it briefly. It's bright and chilly in her room. 'What happened?' Her eyes adjust to her surroundings and sees whiteness everywhere. "Uhh..." The beeping to her right really cements her predicament.
All she remembers last night was excruciating pain and calling Sun and then...nothing. What happened? Did Sun and Moon find her and panic and then take her to the hospital? No, wait her dad called 911... Her brain is all muddled and she can't think straight with the suffocating smell wafting through her nose.
She tries to get up to open a window or something but stops at the pain. "Ah!" She flinches, moving the blanket off her. She frowns at the thick white bandage wrapped around her midsection. 'Okay, seriously! What kind of cold did I come down with!?'
Codie startles at a knock. A nurse gently opens it and walks in, clipboard in hand. "Good morning! I'm Ms. Leela and I'm taking care of you! Can you tell me if you're feeling any pain right now?"
Codie blinks but answers. "Um, yeah, my abdomen." Ms. Leela nods, writing down on her clipboard. "What happened?"
The lady looks up with a sad smile. "You had an emergency appendectomy, sweetie. The doctors had to drug you up big time, it was pretty bad. But the surgery went very well! You should be able to go home tomorrow!"
"Tomorrow? I have to stay all day?" She can't help but worry about Sun and Moon. Did they find her on the floor? Were they okay?
"Mhmm. Just to monitor you and make sure you don't contract any infections." Codie watches as the nurse administers something to her I.V. "I set you with some pain medicine but if anything worsens just hit the button."
The ginger nods and waves the nice lady goodbye. Now that she's all alone, Codie wonders what time it is. She then realizes she literally has nothing with her except a pair of clothes to her right, sitting neatly on a chair. She leans over and grabs a little slip of paper sitting on top.
'Hey sweetie, here's a change of clothes! We'll be there after work to visit.
-Love,
Mom and Dad.'
Suddenly, the room door bursts open, an ever-energetic Sun bending down to fit, arm outstretched with the tote hanging off his fingers. Moon follows him, glaring at him for making a ruckus.
"Sun! What if she was asleep!" he scolds.
"Sorry, Sunbite!" Sun smiles at Codie, ignoring his brother. "I was excited to see you! I cooked you breakfast! Are you hungry!?" He immediately takes a seat next to her bed, gingerly setting her clothes aside. Moon pouts, opting to stand on the other side. He smiles down at the two while they're occupied with getting the food out.
"I am, Sunny! Thank you." She chomps into the bacon, savory and salty flavors bursting in her dry mouth. The two jesters contently watch the girl scarf her food down. "I didn't know I was that hungry..." she burps, embarrassingly hiding her face as she excuses herself for it.
"How are you feeling, Starlight?" Moon asks softly, eyes set with worry.
Codie looks down into her lap. "Okay, I think? I didn't even know what happened. I just woke up in the hospital. It was scary but I'm glad you guys came." Moon flushes at the bright smile she gives him.
Sun grabs her hand, giving it a squeeze. "We were so worried for you. We rushed home as fast as we could but you were already taken away..." His rays shrink as he avoids eye contact. "I'm so sorry we left you alone, Sunshine. We wanted to make you your favorite dinner when you woke up and..."
Codie puts a hand on Sun's face, gaining his attention. "It's okay, Sunrise. You didn't know." Sun's fans pick up speed, his body getting warm at her sincerity. She didn't blame him! He's sososo glad. "Nurse said I have to stay a day so they can watch me but I'm so boreeeed!" Codie groans, laying her head back in the pillow.
Moon chuckles and grabs out the game consoles. Codie shoots up, winces in pain, then gasps in excitement.
"No way! You guys are awesome! I've been meaning to play more Animal Crossing!" Codie happily takes her 3DS from Moon's blue tipped hand and opens it, turning it on. Sun shakes excitedly.
"Oh! Lemme watch!" He scoots closer to the girl, able to lean over and watch comfortably. He boldly decides to lay his head on her shoulder, rays retracting as to not poke her. When she doesn't say anything about it, Sun giggles, nuzzling into her neck.
Moon purses his lips, eyeing the two. Sun smiles at him, that smug bastard. The both of them are severely touch-starved and Moon's looking mighty jealous of Sun right about now. He wouldn't want to overwhelm the poor girl, though.
The three play games all day until the nurse boots them out, announcing visitor hours are over. "The day went by really fast," Codie remarks, giving Sun her DS to take home.
Her parents came by earlier, but, seeing the two animatonics, smiled knowingly at their daughter and came up with an excuse to leave sooner. Codie rolled her eyes at that.
Moon pats her head. "We'll pick you up tomorrow, Stardrop. Make sure you rest well tonight." He narrows his eyes at her as if warning her not to challenge him.
"I will." She smiles, fixing her unruly red hair.
"Goodbye, Sunbite!" Instead of giving her a hug, like Codie was expecting him to do, Sun bends down, putting his face atop her head. He keeps it there for a moment, Codie wondering what he's doing, when he places a kiss, just a small one. Blushing, he hurriedly follows Moon out the door, not looking back.
Codie blinks. Did... Did he just give her a kiss? She puts her hands to her cheeks, already feeling the warmth coming from them. 'It-it was a friendly goodbye get well soon kiss! Calm down!' she scolds herself.
She reaches behind her to turn the lights off before turning over and going to sleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"You did not," Moon drawls.
"Uh-huh! I did, yes! I couldn't help myself, she was so cute!" Sun retorts, shaking his head, orange blush appearing across his cheeks.
Moon's eyes widen, staring at his brother as he drives home. "You kissed her!?"
"Just her head, Moonie! Why, you jealous?" He smirks. Moon narrows his eyes.
He crosses his arms, "No." He was a little bit, but he wasn't going to tell Sun that.
"Hey, Moon?" Moon tilts his head, glaringly warning him to just try and tease him. "Can I get a pet?" Oh, well that wasn't what he thought at all. Talk about topic change.
"Er, what would you want?" Moon never really thought about getting any animals. They've never even seen any animals until they left the daycare. Sun went wild at the sight of a squirrel. Poor thing is probably traumatized.
"Well, I just love nature! The sun, the trees, the grass...the bugs..." Sun trails off, waiting for Moon's reaction.
"Uhh..bugs?" Did Moon hear right? Can you even have bugs as pets?
"Yes! I just love, love, love bugs! Butterflies, caterpillars, spiders, ants! Oh I love ants!" Sun rambles on and on about any bug he knows of all the while Moon stares off into space. Bugs? Sun wants bugs in the apartment? He better not want a spider, he knows how humans can get about those things.
"Well, what kind of bug did you want?"
"Hmmmm!" Sun tilts his head but keeps his eyes on the road. "I want a beetle! No! A bunch of beetles! I love beetles and the different kind of colors they come in with their pretty shells!"
Moon's eyes go blank for a moment before blinking back on. "Um, like a ladybug?" Those are so small, how can a huge animatronic like Sun take care of a bunch of tiny beetles?
"Yes, ladybugs are a type of beetle but I was thinking more like a Bess beetle! I want two of them! And they'd be best friends!" Moon chuckles, his brother's excitement and antics getting the better of him.
He pumps his hands down, trying to calm the Sun. "Alright, alright, we'll look into getting you a couple Bess beetles."
Sun whoops in celebration, shaking in excitement in the driver seat.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Codie finally arrives home, she takes a deep breath and sighs in relief. It may have only been a day, but it felt like a week to her. She tosses her dirty clothes into her laundry basket and, wanting to flop but knowing not to strain herself, lies down gently on her bed.
She grabs her phone and rolls over, going to and wincing at the state of her checking account. She should probably get a better job. Since she missed a few days of shopping for people, she has lost money, enough to get her worried.
She remembers seeing a 'Help Wanted' sign at the cafe down the street, maybe she could try there? She's never been a barista before but how hard can making drinks be? The ginger looks over when a knock catches her attention.
Sun sheepishly pokes his head in, giving her a smile. "Hello, Sunflower! How's your abdomen?" Codie sits up, rolling her eyes but smiling.
"I'm alright, Sun." She was fine the other 5 times he's asked, too, but oh well. He nods, his eyes flickering around. "Was there something else you needed?" Codie asks, chuckling at the bot.
"Um! I wanted to use your computer."
Codie grins, gesturing for him to come in. "Of course, Sunny, you don't need to ask!" Sun's rays spin as he enters, skipping to the computer and moving the chair aside so he can kneel in front of it.
The solar bot eagerly types what he wants in the search bar. Codie disregards him, going back to her phone. She goes to the cafe's website, Coffee Garden, and clicks the button to apply for a job. She gets frustrated at the small screen, the keyboard making it difficult to see what she's typing.
She looks up to Sunny, stifling a giggle at him restlessly shaking his hips side to side as he does whatever he wanted to do on her PC. She waits for him to finish for a few minutes before she herself gets restless.
"Hey, Sun-Bun?" Codie drawls. His head swivels in a 180, spooking her. "Holy crap!" Sun sticks his tongue out with a wink. "Anyway," she mock glares with a smile, "I need to get on soon. Whatcha lookin' at anyway?" She leans her body to sneak a peak passed the bot.
"Oh, oh! Comere, look!" His silicon fingers point on the monitor, though thankfully not smudging.
"Bess beetles?" Codie reads aloud.
"Yes! I've been wanting something to take care of and I just love bugs! I decided to get a couple Bess beetles!" Codie hides her grimace, not wanting to be a buzz kill. She really, really hates bugs. Any type. She even gets weirded out over butterflies of all things!
"Ehhhh...that's great, Sun! They'll be in your room, right?" She tries to keep her voice level and sounding interested.
"Yup! I'm going to go to the pet store and get a tank and some dirt and some wood!" She can't help but genuinely smile at his enthusiasm. He just brightens up anyone's mood with his smile and attitude.
"Alright, alright, get your sunny butt out of here and get your bugs! I've gotta apply for a job." She just about jumps when he does that head swivel thing again. She quirks an eyebrow, "What?"
"You're applying for a job? Where? For how long?!" his voice rises at the end.
Codie puts her hands up in surrender. "Whoa! I-I don't know, Sunny! I just realized I should get something more consistent and stable. I'm not earning enough with my current job."
"But, then me and Moon can't accompany you anymore..." Sun frowns, eyes downtrodden.
"Well, you guys weren't going to come with me all the time, right? Plus, the cafe is only down the street if you really want to visit me." Sun climbs back onto his feet and without another word, pats her head and then leaves the room. 'Okaaaaay?' Codie is slightly confused but dismisses it and heads to the website to apply.
~~~~~~~~
"Moon! Moon! Moonie! Moonpie!"
"Moonpie!?" Moon finally pays attention to his brother, taken aback by the nickname.
Sun shrugs, "I dunno. Anyway! Codie is going to get a job and work everyday all day and we'll never see her anymore!" he says fast, dragging it out at the end with a whine.
Moon quirks an eye, setting down his latest book on the kitchen table. "A job? Where?"
"Some cafe down the street, I don't know!"
"Well, if she wants to get a job as a barista why is that a problem?"
Sun gapes, how can his brother not understand!? "Be-because she'll be gone all day and we, or more importantly, I, won't be able to spend as much time with her!" He throws his arms out for emphasis of the situation.
"Sun," Moon puts a hand on his shoulder, shaking his head with a little chuckle, "this is not going to be like the Daycare. She goes in, works a little, then comes home. She's not going to be living at the cafe."
The solar bot goes silent, thinking about it. "Then...why couldn't we go out after work?"
Moon scowls, "'Cause we were property to those bastards. But don't worry, we'll learn her schedule I'm sure and then plan around it, okay?" With a sharp-toothed smile, Moon gets one in return from his sunny counterpart.
"Okay! Then I'm off to the pet store to get the proper habitual items for my soon to be beetles!" Sun announces, loud enough for Codie to hear. Moon nods and Codie calls out an okay from her room. He leaves and Moon decides to head over to Codie.
He leans on her doorframe, smirk on his features, and teases on his tongue. "So. Sunny told me you're applying for a job?"
Codie crosses her arms and swivels in her chair to face him, mock pout on her lips. "Maybe."
"Mmm, and when did you plan on starting?" Moon copies her stance with his arms crossed.
She wonders why this matters all of a sudden, breaking the joking façade and nervously saying, but it sounds like a question, "Uhh, as soon as possible...?"
With a sinister style, Moon creeps up to where the ginger sits. She shrinks and makes herself small in her chair as Moon stalks up at full height. His red eyes beam down on her face. Her eyes dart every which way. 'Why is he being so creepy!?'
"Arnt'cha forgetting something, little lady?" He makes it so his mouth doesn't move when he spoke, spooking her further.
"Nooooo?" she awkwardly chuckles. Was there a test she should have studied for?
Moon sighs, fixing his posture and rubbing his eyes, "Starlight, you just got home from the hospital. Recovery time after an appendectomy is two to four weeks. You're not going directly to work, silly."
Oh. She didn't even think of that. She hardly even feels the bandages wrapped around her torso. "Well!" she protests, "I'm not hurting and it's not like I'd be doing anything strenuous." She goes back to pouting, turning back around and finishing her application.
Moon groans and sits up against her chair, fingers tapping her head in an annoying manner. She huffs and tries to swat him away to no avail. He starts dragging his long fingers through her unruly, curly hair, getting them caught sometimes.
"Ack! Cut it out!" She hits his hand and, even though she doesn't have the strength to move him, he moves them away, snickering. "Come on, Moon, I'm fine. I'd be making drinks, not bulldozing a building."
He squishes her cheeks with two fingers, making her look at him. "You needn't do anything until you're all healed..."
"But-" she tries but he only squishes her face together more.
"You will be fine at home for at least two weeks. Don't worry about making money, alright?" he narrows his eyes at her. She opens her mouth, barely, and he interrupts her, "If you want to do your shopper thing, Sun and I would be happy to help. I know how much lifting is required."
He asks if she understands and she nods, the lunar bot finally releasing her from his grasp. "Can I at least still apply?" she asks sheepishly.
"Silly Star," he pats her head, "why are you asking me?" After that, he leaves. Codie pouts. Man why is he so cute. She tries to focus on her application but can only think of his stupid blue face and hypnotizing red gaze and that dangling little bell jingling softly on the end of his hat and...
"Dammit." Codie groans, pushing her chair back. "Focus, woman!" She smacks her cheeks a couple times. The ginger cracks her knuckles and gets back to typing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Helloooo!" Sun suddenly bursts into the apartment, a big glass tank just chilling under his arm. Codie stares. How strong are these bots? He's not even holding it! It's just under his arm and those things are heavy as hell!
"Sun! Do you need help?" Codie asks frantically.
"Nope!" he exclaims, grabbing the tank and lifting it up. Inside are the many items Sun purchased to go in such as wood, substrate, and moss. "I've got everything I need to make a home for my little beetles! Well, except for the little bugs themselves!"
"Ah...hah... Isn't that tank a little big?" Codie squirms in her seat. How big of a bug is he getting?!
"Nope! It's perfect! I wanted them to be comfortable. Oh!" Sun places the tank on the table, "I've gotta go order them! Be right back!" Codie watches him go into her room to presumably use her PC to buy beetles from.
She furrows her eyebrows. 'Do...do the boys even have a debit card? Thor forbid they have credit cards. Not sure Sunny's credit score would be too high. He loves impulsively buying things, mainly art supplies.'
"S-Sun! Hold up! How are you buying them!" Codie chases after him. She sees that he's already on a bug breeder website. He turns his head to look at her, lifting his arm to show off his debit card in between his fingers.
Oh. He really does have a card.
"Hmm? What's the matter. Sunshine?"
Now feeling stupid for even worrying about such a thing, Codie rubs the back of her neck, saying, "Ah, sorry, nevermind." She tiptoes behind the big animatronic and watches over his shoulder as he scrolls the page. "Bess beetles?" she asks, seeing the big bold letters with a picture of said bugs underneath it.
"Yup! Aren't they just the cutest?" Sun's rays spin happily as he clicks 'BUY'.
No. Codie wouldn't exactly call those buggers cute, that's for sure. But she is really happy that Sun is happy so that's something, right? She can totally deal with two of those guys just a room over from her...
"Done!" Sun announces, standing up and leaving the room without another word. He heads back to his tank and takes it to his room and sets it on a dresser. Perfect, he'll be able to see his pets any time!
Codie watches, all the while thinking about a pet of her own. She hums. A dog is a lot of work. A cat could be nice, she prefers them over dogs. Maybe a rodent? They can be pretty smelly, though. A reptile? Not as cuddly. Man there's so many to choose from! Definitely no fish, though. They can't be cuddled and water is annoying to deal with.
"Hey, Sunrise?" Codie calls out to him, giggling at his subtle orange blush from the nickname, "What other kinds of animals do you and Moon like? Besides um insects?"
"Well! I love nature so of course any kinds of bugs are for me! I also love the little squirrels and birds that I see alot! Moon, not so much, though. I actually don't know what he would like? He never really expressed anything about the animals we would find after leaving the pizzaplex."
Codie mentally sighs in relief at Sun not getting a bird. She loves em, but she's not sure she'd do well with Sunny and a bird under the same roof. She also hums in thought about Moon. She should ask him about it, then. "Okay, thanks, Sunny!" She leaves him to continue setting his tank.
Codie finds out Moon isn't even home and she's not sure why she didn't notice that. 'Where did he go?' The ginger doesn't remember him leaving but oh well, she supposes she can look into an animal on her own. She was just curious about what he liked.
~~~~~~
After browsing the internet for awhile, taking notes on what would be more cost efficient care and food wise, Codie figures a small rodent would be nice. She could cuddle with it, play with it, and, most importantly, the one she chose is diurnal! It wouldn't keep her up at night!
(Not like she doesn't have problems sleeping anyway but we don't talk about that)
Should she wait until she goes back to work? She has some money saved but... She rubs her arm with a frown. Maybe a week or so, then she'll get the stuff she'll need for it and after that, the animal itself? Yeah, that'll work.
She stands up from her chair. Her feet tingle and sting as they're asleep. She gasps as she almost trips from not feeling them as she walks and then doubles over in a sudden flare up of cramps. The ginger hisses, wrapping her arms around her midsection and slowly lowers herself to the floor, breathing heavily and trying to calm down.
Outside, Sunny's high tech hearing hears Codie's hissing and whimpers. Now on red alert, he carefully makes his way over to her room, knocking lightly, his silicon hands making a thump noise. "Sunbite, are you alright? I heard some- Oh my! Come here, Sunshine!" When he opened the door, Sun found Codie sitting on the floor, pain in her eyes and arms still wrapped. He gets to her in two strides and bends down.
Codie puts her arms out, grateful for Sun's welcoming warmth and ready to be enveloped in it. He lifts her up and warms his body for her, knowing heat can help ease the pain. They stay like that for a moment before Codie taps his arm.
He makes a noise, not wanting to set her down but does so when she taps again. "Alright, alright," Sun chuckles, "Are you feeling better, Sunbite?" His body starts to cool itself back down, though it might start getting hot again if she keeps looking at him like that.
"Yeah, thank you, Sunny! It just got bad all of a sudden, I dunno why..." Sun watches her gaze go from his eyes, (come back!) to her computer.
"You were probably sitting for too long, silly!" He deduces. "Come, lemme make you some food and you'll feel better!" He smiles brightly, taking her hand and leading her to the kitchen.
Codie looks up at him, a strange feeling of awe flowing through her vein. How did she get so lucky to have such caring roommates? She would even call the two her best friends. She is not even really hungry but she knows it makes Sun happy so she'll be damned if she doesn't eat whatever he makes her.
Sun sits her down at the table and goes into the fridge. "Is a sandwich okay, Sunbite?" Codie giggles at him, telling him yes. "Right-o!" He jumps up with the tools for a perfect sandwich in his hands, setting deli meat, mayo, tomato, lettuce and cheese on the counter. He sings his old daycare tune as he grabs the bread to build it.
Codie happily watches as he does so, wishing she could have seen him and Moon in action at the daycare. She can't imagine how good they were with the kids. She wishes she could have helped the children who were scared of Moon. To show them that he's just a big softy underneath his defensive laid back and teasing demeanor
The clatter of a glass plate being set in front of her breaks Codie out of her daydream. She looks down at her meal. A perfectly crafted (and she means perfectly) sandwich with the crusts cut off how she likes and cut into two triangles.
"Pfft," she covers her lips, "thanks, Sunny-bun. It looks delicious!" Sun beams and flaps his hands at the praise.
The front door abruptly slams open, startling the two. Moon stands there, hand still on the door and face looking grim. No one says anything for a second and Codie sets her sandwich down, getting up from her chair. "Sun," Moon voice is serious, "Come here."
Sun immediately moves over to his brother, Codie hesitantly following suit. Moon puts his hand out, stopping both in their tracks. He nods at Sun then turns to the human. "Not you, Stardrop." Codie blinks, her lips forming an 'O'. She nods and goes back to her sandwich.
"Moon? What's wrong?" Sun asks, shutting the door behind him.
"Chica had an incident at her shop." Sun gasps, asking if she's alright. "She's fine, just frightened. The shop got vandalized, though. Windows shattered. Graffiti lining the walls. Some stuff was stolen as well but I'm not sure what."
"Well then let's get over there and help her!" Sun exclaims.
"I know, I came to get you. Let's go." Sun stops his brother by grabbing his arm. The lunar bot looks back questioningly.
"What about Codie?"
"This doesn't really concern her, plus she's still recovering."
"But she had a flare up earlier and I had to help her. What if she has another? She should come with," Sun argues.
"We got her that heating pad," Moon bites back, tugging his arm.
Sun narrows his eyes. "She'll be upset if we just leave. At least let her come and meet Chica. She could help cheer the poor girl up."
Moon sighs. Sun does have a point he supposed. And yeah, they have been meaning to introduce her to their robotic friends. He nods to the solar bot and heads off to start the car. Sunny opens the door and peers back in. Codie looks up, a piece of sandwich falling off her cheek.
"Sunshine, we have to go to Chica's, something happened-" Codie shoots up, cutting him off.
"Oh my gosh! Okay, I'm coming, hang on!" She hasn't even met Chica yet but she's worried as hell. She cares about Sun and Moon's friends. It doesn't matter if she hasn't met them, all these animatronics need all the love and support they can get from the humans and she'll give it to them.
She heads out the door with Sun and the three all make their way over to Chica Cakes.
