Nightmares?
Codie wakes up in her bed. This time, she knows she was last on the couch. She flushes in embarrassment when she deduces Moon carried her to bed. She rubs her eyes, cringing at the crusty skin. 'I guess that Moondrop really helped after all... Well, after a whole hour...' Though it wasn't too bad. Her melatonin could take up to 2 to take effect.
The ginger yawns, still feeling the drowsiness from the sleepless nights. Codie goes to get dressed. Today, the young adult decided to visit her parents. She hasn't seen them since she moved out and figured it would be nice to surprise them for lunch.
She waves goodbye to the surprisingly awake Moon and hugs a way too excited at this time Sun. "Friend! We wanted to discuss some things with you!"
"Could it wait, Sun-Bun? I'm going to visit my parents." Sun blushes at the nickname.
"O-oh! Sure thing!" Codie thanks him and takes her leave. Sun turns around. "A-and what are you staring at?!" he turns to Moon, the lunar bot donning a smirk.
"Nothing."
Sun pouts and marches off with a huff.
~~Time Skip~~
Codie couldn't stop thinking of her blunder this morning as she makes her way to her parents house. 'Sun-Bun? SUN-BUN? What the heck was I thinking? Oh wait, I wasn't thinking and that came out. I'm such an embarrassment...'
She shoves her thoughts into the back of her mind as she parks. The ginger happily greets her parents and goes inside. "So how are your new roommates, sweetie?" Mom asks as she prepares sandwiches.
"They're...really awesome, Mom. Sun and Moon are both really nice and if you look past their height and mechanical aspects, they're practically human! You wouldn't be able to tell the difference. They're amazing and special." Codie smiles, her mind wandering.
Her mom smiles down at her, placing a plate with her sandwich in front of her. "I'm glad, honey."
"Oh!" Codie flushes at being caught daydreaming. "I'm here cause' I've been having trouble sleeping but I've never had this problem before and I wanted your guys' advice on how to help or fix it."
"Hmm, I may have an idea... Dear!" Codie's mom calls her husband into the kitchen. The man joins them and sits down with them, eagerly chomping into his meal. "Honey, do you remember when Codie would go to sleepovers?"
Dad swallows and looks at his daughter, "Mm! Yeah, we'd always have to pick you up because you'd refuse to sleep. Complaining about tummy aches, and being scared. The doctor said it was separation anxiety but we figured you'd grow out of it." Codie gapes. She doesn't remember any of that!
She panics, "But, this is happening every night now! How do I fix it!?"
Mom smiles sadly. "Well the anxiety medicine certainly helps but...this is just something you have to get used to. Living on your own, you know, without us. It's only been a few days, I'm sure it'll get better."
"Yeah! And I'm sure your roommates could help you through it if you just explain..." Dad pipes in but Codie cuts him off.
"Dad, Sun goes to bed early and...I already bothered Moon two out of the three nights we've been there and I really don't want to be a burden..."
Before his wife can pipe in, Codie's dad points his finger in the air. "Ah but I've done some research!" Codie rolls her eyes and hides a small smile, 'Of course he did.' "The Nighttime Daycare Attendant was designed to help and care for the children for naptime. Putting them to sleep and keeping them safe. He also doubled as a security bot for after hours at the Pizza Plex!" Dad finishes, sounding very proud of himself.
"Yeah, so?" Codie seeks for his point.
"So, Moon could help you out! He's designed for it."
"What? No, dad that was his job. He's free to do whatever he wants now! Plus, I'm not a child being put down for a nap." Codie glares.
"Maybe Moon would be happy to help you, Codie. It wouldn't hurt to ask," Mom adds.
Codie hides her face and groans out, "But, this is so embarrassing!"
Dad just laughs and waves his hand dismissively. "Oh honey, from what I've read about that attendant, he loved his 'stars' and what he did. He probably dealt with children with the same problem as you, it's not uncommon."
Codie sniffles, "Maybe..."
"Let's not talk about that anymore! How about we go out today?" Mom suggests with a smile and a kind touch to her daughter's shoulder.
Codie nods and she and her parents get ready to go out for the day.
~~POV Jump~~
"Did you wanna go to Chica's shop today, Moon? I don't believe you've seen it, yet! It's very nice!" Sun asks as he tidies up the kitchen to his liking. Moon stifles his snickers at Sun's obvious topic change.
"Sure, why not. Maybe we can grab something for Codie."
"That's a wonderful idea! Come on!" Sun says giddily, practically dragging his brother out. The two buckle up and Moon takes them to Chica's shop, Chica Cakes.
Sun thinks to himself of what they should get Codie as they walk in, the door jingling at their arrival. "Welcome, boys!" Chica's jubilant voice calls out from behind the front counter. She pats her hands on her apron, wiping off flour, with a smile.
"Hello, Chica! How's the shop!" Sunny waves sporadically, his eyes looking at all the different sweets in the displays.
The animatronic chicken unties her apron and walks around the corner and sets it down. "It's goin' great! I've been experimenting on some recipes this morning, too. Would you boys care to test them for me?"
Moon smiles and nods, his mouth watering already. Sun whoops in joy, "Oh boy, would we! Yes, yes, yes!" Chica chuckles and guides them to the back, motioning for them to sit at the nearby table.
"Y'all get comfy and I'll go grab the dishes!"
The brothers nod, then turn to each other. "So," Sun wrings his hands, "you really think she's afraid of us?"
"Not us exactly. More so being in association with us," Moon replies.
"W-well..then we'll just have to show her that no one will attack her just for being our friends!" Sun stutters, pointing his finger in the air with his idea.
Moon sighs, placing his cheek in his hand and resting his elbow on the table, "It's not that easy, Sunshine. We can't be with her all the time, that would only be annoying and or spur on any more people that would like to insult us and her just for being with us."
Sun frowns deep in thought when Chica reenters, two plates balancing on her hands. "Here we are! Butternut, toasted pecan, and double chocolate, chocolate cake for Moon!" Moon drools at the sight on the slice of cake Chica sets in front of him.
He lifts his fork and goes to dig in, thanking her.
"And for Sun! A Spice cake with lemon frosting!"
"Oh! Goodie! Thank you, thank you, friend!" Sun wiggles in excitement, mirroring Moon and digging in. The Sun moans in delight, "Oh! This is so good!"
"I agree. This is the best one yet, Chica. Are you adding this to your menu?" Chica blushes at the praises.
"Thank you, you two! And yes, Moon! It'll be available next week! Thank you guys for trying these out! It helped a lot!"
The bell rings out in the main entrance, alerting the 3 animatronics. "Chica! You here?" A little boy's voice calls out. The 3 immediately recognize it to be Gregory.
The jesters and chicken glance at each other and without saying anything, they all get up to see what the kid wants. "Howdy little Chickadee! What're you doing here?" Chica greets sweetly.
Gregory smiles at the glamrock and gives her a little wave, his attention more focused on the sweets behind the glass. He shakes his head, "Me and Vanessa wanted- oh, you two are here..." he trails off after seeing the former daycare attendants.
Sun not so subtly glares at the child while Moon slightly frowns, looking peeved from his attitude. "We were here first! So ha!" Sun exclaims, childishly sticking his tongue out. Gregory copies him and the two go at it for a few minutes.
"Stop it, you two! Gregory, come on, don't antagonize Sun!" Vanessa scolds, having entered the bakery, her hands on her hips.
"He started it!" The boy points at Sun as the bot gasps and puts a hand to his chest in offense.
"I'd never!" Moon smacks his brother. "Ow..." he whines and rubs his arm.
The jester's relationship with Gregory was...complicated at best. Sun didn't like the little rule-breaker. He never even apologized! And Moon, well Moon was okay with him. Mainly just wanted to put him to bed but Greg would never let him.
Gregory on the other hand is the opposite. Even though Moon apologized, he can't help but feel wary and cautious around the Moon. And Sun is just fun to tease. He avoids apologizing for that reason. He knows he broke the rules and he does feel bad about what happened that night, but Sun doesn't need to know that.
"I already talked to the others and I was going to head over to your guys' new place but since you're here, I get to tell you all at once." Vanessa explains, "We have a meeting to go to in a week, it's pretty far away so Freddy suggested a bus we can all go in. So be at my place at noon, sharp, got it, Moon?" She directs the last part at the lunar bot, knowing his tendency to charge in late.
"Don't worry Vanessa! We'll be there!" Sun assures the blond. Chica gives a nod in affirmation for he presence as well.
"Good. Also, Moon, can I talk to you in private for a minute?" Moon quirks his faceplate in question but follows the woman into the back while Sun and Chica stay up front with Gregory.
"What is it?"
Vanessa sighs, "Look, I was wondering if you and Sun could babysit...er not babysit, but watch Gregory for the night tomorrow."
Moon frowns and questions, "Why? What are you and Freddy doing? And why not Chica or Roxy? Or even Monty. Pretty sure we're on the bottom of that kid's friends list." Vanessa rolls her eyes.
"Don't sell you and Sun short. But anyway, I'm going out with a friend, and the Glamrocks are all going out together for the first time. They had to convince Freddy pretty hard. Gregory doesn't know about it yet, he has some pretty bad abandonment issues, but he should be fine with you two, I'll tell him about it tonight so he can prepare."
Moon twists the drawstrings on his pants. "I'm not sure if we can. You know we have a roommate, right? I'd have to see if she's okay with it. Gregory might try to antagonize her. You know how that kid is."
"Wait, really! I didn't know you two moved in with someone! Who is she! Does she like you guys? That's so exciting for you two!"
"Yeah, yeah, she's fine. I think..." Vanessa quirks an eyebrow but Moon waves her off and ignores her many questions. "I'm sure she'll be okay with it, but I'll text you tonight and let you know when he can be dropped off."
"Okay, cool, thanks, Moon!" The former security officer pats his back and heads back out in the bakery.
~~Time Skip~~
Sun and Moon walk back up to their apartment together, Sun holding a decadent dessert in his hand for Codie. The two argued about what she may like for a bit before deciding on the Cinnamon Coffee Cake.
The two enter and, immediately, their olfactory sensors pick up an amazing smell. "What is that delightful smell!?" Sun whisks away into the kitchen almost cartoonishly like he was following a scent trail.
"Hi guys!" Codie greets them without looking away. "I'm warming up the dinner my mom made for us!" The ginger turns around and jumps, finding Sun's faceplate up to hers, his blank white eyes spooking her.
"We brought you a dessert from Chica's! Open it, open it, open it!" The bot excitedly shoves it into the unsuspecting girl's arms. She almost drops it in the process.
"Oh! Thank you, let's see..." Codie lifts the lid and cinnamon wafts into her nose. "Mm! I love cinnamon!"
"I told you everyone likes cinnamon." Moon smirks from his place at the dinner table. Sun pointedly ignores him while Codie chuckles. She notices Sun hasn't moved or looked anywhere but her, almost expecting something.
"Um, what?" She glances away awkwardly, not sure what he's doing. 'Did he shut down or something?' she tries to rationalize.
"Arntcha gonna try some!" He suddenly moves, bouncing with each word.
"Um, er," she looks up and down at the cake to the bot, "after dinner, okay?"
"Oh! Yes, yes! Wouldn't wanna spoil dinner, no!" This robot will give her whiplash one of these days, she swears. After that, Codie safely stores her cake in the fridge. She notices Sun still hasn't moved, so she awkwardly gets back to warming up dinner.
"Here we are!" Codie dishes some plates after moving around the hovering Sun, she spoons some food onto them and serves Moon. Then she places her and Sun's plate down as well. Sun finally moves and joins his brother.
"What is this?" Moon queries, pushing it around with his fork.
"Chicken and broccoli alfredo! With, ah, rigatoni noodles I think."
The solar bot digs in without blowing on it. "Ah! Hot, hot!" He fans his mouth comically. Codie just watches while carefully cooling her bite down.
"Didn't you want to talk to me about something?" she remembers and asks the nighttime bot without taking her eyes off the daytime one.
Moon looks up, half bored, half focused on the amazing pasta his taste bud sensors are tasting. His fork flails around as he moves his hand. "Hm? Oh, yes, but..." he hesitates, not sure if he wants to talk about his subject at the moment.
The two brothers share a look. "SO! Officer Vanessa wanted us to look after Gregory tomorrow night!" Sun deflects and Moon nods in relief and agreement.
"Gregory? You mean the ambassador for the animatronics?" The brothers nod simultaneously. "But, wait, how old is he!? Mrs. Simmons just said he had a caretaker as in like, parental guardian."
Moon explains, "He's twelve."
Codie deadpans, "You guys have a twelve year old ambassador?"
"Well, Vanessa definitely does most if not all the work."
"So, we're babysitting him why? I'm fine with it, I don't care what you guys do, but isn't he old enough to stay home? I stayed home when I was nine!" The two bots look at the girl in horror. "What? Is that not normal?"
"No!" Sun gasps, "I'd never leave any of our little stars by themselves!"
Moon finishes his food and says, "Gregory can take care of himself, but it's better if he's not left alone." He texts Vanessa about dropping him off as well.
"Okay, well, I'd like to meet him then. He helped save you all so he can't be that bad." Codie shrugs, taking her dinner plate to the sink.
"He's a little rule-breaker that's what he is..." Sun pouts, crossing his arms.
'Who would have imagined Sun of all people not liking someone!' Codie chuckles to herself.
~~Time Skip~~
Codie tosses and turns for what feels like the millionth time in a row. She groans angrily, rubbing at her eyes. She's unsure if she should get up and bother Moon. She needs to be an adult and overcome this separation anxiety by herself! Then again she hasn't had a good night's sleep in what, 4 days now?
She gets up, putting shorts on this time, and hopes Moon is in the living room. And just her luck!
He isn't.
She chews on her already short fingernails, nervous as hell to even knock on their door. What if he's already in bed? It's around 1 am at this point and Codie isn't sure how late the bot stays up. The ginger paces the hallway for a while, debating if maybe she should wait for a night when he's watching T.V.
Meanwhile, Moon wonders what the heck Codie's doing pacing at this hour as he watches the stars. His optics turn and just stare at the door for a while, wondering if Codie will just go back to bed or if she possibly wanted him for something.
Codie gains enough courage to do just the tiniest knock before chickening out and going back to pacing. Moon, of course hears that knock. He frowns but gets up to see what she needs.
"Eep!" The ginger startles, not expecting the hulking animatronic to answer. Moon's optics stare down at the girl, making herself shrink in anxiety. "Erm," she fidgets with her fingers, "so I know what's been keeping me up at night..."
Moon nods, silently telling her to continue.
"Uh, I have separation anxiety. My parents said I've had it since I was little. I guess I'm just scared to be on my own without them you know?" When Moon doesn't reply, Codie laughs awkwardly. "But uh, Dad researched about you guys and-and he said you could possibly help...me? Um, if-if you want, you don't have to..."
Moon just stares in astonishment. This wasn't about him and Sun at all! Separation anxiety! His systems also can't help but get excited at the prospect of helping someone sleep. Especially when he isn't the problem with their staying up in the first place!
'Oh gosh he probably thinks I'm pathetic...' Codie chews her lip. "You- you don't have to, I know I'm not a little kid..."
He realizes he's let her stew in her nervous thoughts and quickly but gently lays a cool metal hand on her bare shoulder, causing her to flinch from the cold. She slowly peers up through her bangs. Moon smiles softly.
"Of course I can help." And with that, it feels like a million pounds was lifted off her shoulders. Codie swears she could cry she was so nervous and sure he would say no. "Would you like another Moondrop to help?"
"Yes please," she mumbles. The bot follows her back to her bed. As she gets in bed, she looks up. "Um, so how did you usually help the kiddos?"
Moon glances up as he thinks for a moment. "If they had a particularly hard time calming down, some would lay in my lap, others right beside me, and I would rub their backs." Codie flushes. She's not sure either of them would be comfortable doing that.
Moon decides to take a seat at the edge of her bed, so Codie moves her feet to the other end. She goes to ask what he's doing, as he's kinda just sitting there with his eyes closed, but a gentle tune soon rumbles out from within him.
'Oh how nice...' Codie hums with her eyes closed. As she lies down, she can feel the effects of the Moondrop much faster this time. Moon watches as she quickly falls into a deep slumber.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sun hums to himself as he makes breakfast this morning. He then starts to whistle and pops down toast before going back to tend to the eggs on the stove. "Moonie!" Sun calls out, hearing his brother's heavy footsteps. "Where were you this morning! Did you get up before me?"
"Oh, I must have lost track of time last night..." Sun 'hmm's' in question, stirring the eggs. "I helped Codie fall asleep last night. I didn't realize it was morning, I must have zoned out."
Sun gasps, almost dropping his spatula. "What! That's amazing, Moon! Oh does that mean she isn't nervous with us!"
Moon almost matches his brother's excitement, happy to have a human that likes them and gets along with them so well. Unlike the daycare workers that would leave after 1 week. Moon has heard them complain about Sun's overdramatic and loud personality and Moon's aggressive defensiveness. He wouldn't be so defensive if people actually gave them a chance.
"Yeah, it was a big misunderstanding. She has separation anxiety."
"Makes sense and, ohhhh!" Sun waggles his arms giddily, "I'm just so glad she likes us!" Sunny can't remember seeing Moon this happy in a long time. He doesn't really show it outwardly, but his other half can just tell.
Moon just nods in agreement, fishing out a frozen breakfast burrito. "Should we go get Codie?" He asks his brother, trying to get by him to warm up the burrito.
Now, while the animatronics don't need to eat, they now have the capacity and utilities to do so. Such as taste buds. They've grown fond of it, much like Chica has, and have been finding themselves eating like humans subconsciously, even though they can't feel hungry.
His sunny half gasps in offense, "How dare! Here I am slaving away and making food for us and you want to make a frozen meal?!"
"It's..." Moon looks down at it confusedly, "just a burrito...?" Sun just glares, eyes narrowed, spatula waving in his brother's face. "Fine!" he relents, "I'll eat your eggs!" He saunters off to wake up their human roommate.
"You love my cooking!" Sun yells. To himself, he chuckles, not actually mad but can't help but tease the bot. He lifts the pan and divides the eggs evenly among the 3 different plates. He peppers Moon's significantly more than his and Codie's and adds ketchup to his own.
The other two show up as he sets the table, finishing it off with orange juice in three glasses. "Mornin'..." Codie yawns, blearily taking her seat. Sun tsks at her state, patting her head on his way to sit at his spot.
Sun smiles, his blank eyes watching the human slowly lift eggs to her mouth. "You look well rested."
The ginger nods, "Mhmm, Moon's candy did much better this time, I think... I haven't slept that good in a while." Moon stays silent as he eats his eggs, hiding a smile, proud of himself for helping her. It feels good to help someone, that's all.
"Weeeelll, since you're still a little sleepy...I could help you wake up some more!" Sun suggest happily.
"Um, like what?" Codie asks, silently hoping he doesn't suggest they go for a jog or something. Codie hates exercise.
"Why, games of course! We can play tag, hide and seek, OH! Do you like puppet shows?" Codie cringes with each game. Has he never played...adult games?
"Um, Sun...those are all kid games. What about something...more mature?" Moon snickers and excuses himself. Sun tilts his head, his rays retracting and detracting in curiosity. Codie starts to sweat under his gaze. "Well, you know- I'm ac-actually not even that tired anymore so..."
As Codie begins to retreat, Sun panics, and stands up briskly, "Wait! I wanna know what kind of 'mature' games there are!"
"Sure... Maybe we can play some with Gregory tonight. Keep him busy?" Codie shrugs, missing Sun's little scoff.
"I wanted to play with you..." he grumbles to himself.
Codie places both of their plates in the sink, washing her hands. "I have a couple board games." She then whispers, "Though, I'm not sure you or Moon would be too keen on playing Cards Against Humanity." She smiles at the Sun. "Maybe we can all play NERTS! I haven't played in a while, since the more players you have the more fun it is."
Codie explains that it's a card game, already earning Sun's excitement on playing. "Oh I love, love, love card games! Go fish! UNO! Even Solitaire!"
"Trust me, you'll love NERTS! It's fast paced and super hectic but super fun! I'll have to dig out enough cards, I dunno if I have enough."
Sun points his finger up. "Moon and I should have some spare decks!"
"Perfect! We'll play tonight!" Codie finishes and heads back to her room, a pep in her step. She's excited to play a game together, she never had the chance, or nerve, to ask before this so, she's definitely excited.
~~Time Skip~~
The doorbell rings. Moon begrudgingly answers after Sun is too stubborn to get up. "You best get your act together, Sun. You being like this only eggs him on more." Sun rolls his eyes but gets up to greet Vanessa with Moon.
When the brothers open the door, they're greeted by a nicely dressed Vanessa and a slightly annoyed Gregory. "Thanks again, guys," the woman breathes, pushing the kid in gently. "Bedtime is ten-thirty, sharp." She gives Moon a look, trusting him to have no problem.
Moon nods, guiding Gregory in. "Of course. Have a good night, Officer Vanessa." Before she could argue at the use of her old title, Sun slams the door shut.
"HAVE FUN!" Sun yells. Vanessa stands outside, shaking her head and laughing at the bots antics, taking her leave shortly after.
"So..." Gregory looks around, bored, "where's your 'roommate'?" He motions air quotes which earns an offended gasp from the Sun.
"What! You think we were lying about having one!?" The kid snickers, shrugging with a resounding hum. Moon sighs and heads to the kitchen to start dinner.
"I don't see one."
"I'll have you know! Our roommate is the most bestest roommate anyone could have!"
Codie swivels in her computer chair towards her door, wondering just what the heck Sun is yelling about. She heard some commotion but- ohhhh, Gregory is here, right! Time to meet the kid, she supposed. Before leaving, she grabs the 4 decks of cards she left out.
Suddenly, Codie hesitates with her hand on the knob. 'Come on! Don't tell me you're nervous to meet a little kid! Geez, Codie get with it!' She berates herself, nearly swinging the door open full force with her annoyance.
She puts a smile on as she approaches the- what are they doing?! "Uh...!?" She clears her throat, stopping the two. Gregory lets go of a blanket both of them were, presumably, arguing over and playing tug-of-war with.
Having let go, Sun, who, let's be honest, could have ripped it from the kid's hands at any time, quickly flies backwards from the sudden slack. Codie gasps as he goes down. Gregory snorts and runs around to the couch, hiding behind the cushions.
"Sun!" The ginger runs over, hovering her hands above the animatronic. "Are you alright!?" She grabs his cheeks, sighing in relief as his eyes blink back to life.
"Goodness! I'm alright, thank you friend!" Sun smiles at his roommate before glaring at the rule-breaker. "You!" Gregory gasps, ducking down out of sight with an 'eep!'.
"Alright, that's enough!" Moon intervenes, having seen enough. "Sun, it's a blanket, give it to the kid. Gregory...I'd say apologize but you probably wouldn't, so, meet Codie, our roommate." Moon gesture to the other human in the room.
Codie waves awkwardly. She never was good with kids but maybe this tween will take it easy on her. "Hey," he deadpans. He glances down at her hands.
"Oh, these are some cards. I figured we could all play a game together," the girl explains, wagging the decks in her hands.
Remembering the game, Sun quickly bounces back, his mood bright and cheery. "Yes, yes, yes! NERTS right?!"
Codie laughs, "Yes, Sunny, NERTS." Sun stops his bouncing, blushing at that nickname again. Moon smirks knowingly and then tells Gregory to come sit at the table.
When all four sit, Codie explains the rules. After doing so, she passes out cards and they begin to play. To no one's surprise, Sun and Moon are naturals. Or maybe it's because they are machines.
The group plays for a while, screaming, throwing cards, and dying of laughter. Moon periodically gets up to deal with the ongoing dinner he's cooking. When it's done, the three clear the table. Codie and Gregory catch their breath, having squealed and screamed during the hectic rounds.
"I didn't think a card game could be so....intense!" Gregory was surprised he enjoyed it so much!
"I know, right! It's so fun! Thank you, Moonie!" Codie exclaims when he sets her plate in front of her. He blushes, hard, not expecting her to call her that. He looks down at her, but she doesn't appear to have realized what she said, digging into her food right away.
Sun giggles, kicking his feet under the table. When the brothers meet each-other's eyes, Sun pokes his tongue out while Moon glares then looks away in embarrassment.
By the time dinner was cleared and the table was clean, it was nearing 8:45 on the clock. "Can we play more cards, Codie? Can we, can we, can we?!" Sun bounces.
"Nah, I'm kinda burned out of cards. I'm sure Gregory is too," the adult gestures to the kid lying on the couch, flicking through channels.
"Aww," Sun whines. He thinks about other things to do while Codie joins the kid on the couch, Moon doing whatever in their bedroom. Maybe a movie? Age appropriate of course. "Hoooooooow about a movie!" The solar animatronic jumps in front of the human's view of the TV. One groans and tries to look passed him while the other nods excitedly.
"Yes! A movie! Oh there's this one I've been wanting to watch." Codie snatches the remote from Gregory with no remorse, ignoring his indignant 'hey!'. "It's called The Black Telephone. Oh yay! It's only a few bucks to rent!"
Gregory's eyes shine with glee, noticing the 'R' rating. Vanessa would never let him watch something like this! Codie is actually pretty cool!
"No, no, no! Codie!" Sun stops her from starting the show, having also seen the 'R' rating. "This film is rated 'R', see?" He points to the rating on the details screen.
Codie furrows her eyebrows, confusion evident in her eyes. "So? It doesn't even look that scary. It's probably mostly curse words with a few jumpscares."
"Yeah," Gregory pouts with his arms crossed, "and it's not like I haven't had my fair share of those." Sun ignores his further grumbling.
"Sorry, you two, but this movie is totally inappropriate for Gregory. Vanessa would be upset." Moon walks back out, eyes narrowed and trying to assess the situation. Sun gives him a look and then motions to the TV screen.
"Sun's right. Is there anything else Codie?" With Moon's words as final, the two humans sigh and Codie goes about looking for another.
After about 15 minutes of searching, the four finally decide on The Boy.
~~10:30~~
Gregory yawns as the credits roll. Codie rolls her eyes, shutting the TV off. "That was so dumb," she scoffs, getting up and stretching. Moon watches as she does so through lidded eyes. She catches him staring, "What? You know I'm right. It would have been cooler if the doll was actually haunted instead of an adult man hiding in the walls."
She walks off to her bedroom. "It was kinda lame." Gregory agrees with a little nod. "Can I -yawn- have some ice-cream?"
"Nope. It's your bedtime, so get comfy and I'll bring you some blankets." Moon steps over to where Sun is sitting. He kicks his brother's shin. "Wake up, sleepy-head," he yells quietly. Sun startles awake, having went into power saving mode halfway through the movie.
"Huh! Wha-? Did I miss the end?!"
"You didn't miss much," Gregory replies, jumping off the couch and skittering to the kitchen as Moon walks down the hallway to his room. He rummages through the fridge a bit before going still, recognizing the familiar feeling of a giant being standing behind him.
Though knowing he's not in any danger, Gregory still can't help but sweat as he slowly closes the door. He sees the feet of Sun as he taps it on the tile. "And what are you looking for- hey!" Sun bends down to grab the kid but he books it before he can grab hold. "Moon! Rule-breaker on the loose!"
Moon hears this as he comes back down the hallway, blanket and pillows under his arm. Gregory suddenly comes barreling down towards him. Without missing a beat, Moon slightly bends and, with his long reach, snatches the boy by the collar.
With a big smile, the lunar bot brings the kid up to his eyes. Gregory pouts. "And you managed to evade everyone for six hours, hmm?"
"Shut up!" He struggles in the Moon's grasp. "You- you slipped a Moondrop or something in my drink earlier. I can outrun any of you!"
"Mhmm," Moon carries him under his other arm back to the couch. "It is now ten thirty-nine. It's past your bedtime," he drawls in a deeper than normal voice.
"Yeah, well, I don't need you to put me to bed." Greg looks to the wobbling animatronic still in the kitchen. "Maybe you should put him to bed instead. He sure needs it. What's wrong with him?"
Moon disregards him as he sets the pillow down, then the child, then the blanket, swaddling him up nice and tight. Gregory struggles for a bit before accepting his fate. He'll work it off later but not while Moon's watching.
Nodding at his work, 'Still got it!', Moon heads to the kitchen to grab his swaying brother. "I-I'm okay, Moonie! J-just a li-little low-ow on po-power!"
"Mhmm, I told you to bring the cord out here for the movie," he scolds, hoisting the bot under his arm. The lunar bot drags Sun back to the bedroom. Moon hisses at Gregory as he chuckles when they walk by, quickly silencing the little bugger.
Moon lays his brother in bed and plugs him in. Sun thanks him before going into sleep mode and Moon leaves the room. He notices Gregory's head quickly duck down. He rolls his eyes.
"I better not see you up. Don't want to be naughty do you? Naughty children don't go home." Greg pouts, shooting his head over the cushions, arms still stuck to his side.
"Oh yeah?" he challenges, "What about the kids at the daycare that were naughty? You keep them overnight?"
Moon smirks, "Yes, of course I did. Had a whole mess of them up in me and Sun's tower. They couldn't get down without help. They cried for a while but stopped after a few days." The bot holds his snickers when he sees the kid's eyes widen in fear.
"Y-you're lying! Sun would never let you do that! Plus, I was up there! I didn't see anything!" He wiggles in his cocoon, wishing he could point at the big, mean bot accusingly.
"Yes, well...S.T.A.F.F bots had to come to clean the skeletons every week or so."
Gregory glares, "Nuh-uh! Bodies don't decay that fast! You're a big liar! Don't you hate liars?" He tries again, freeing one arm with a gasp. Moon creeps towards him, red eyes zeroing in on his scared face.
"Aren't you the little know-it-all...hm, yes I suppose you are right about the bodies... But, don't you know the difference between a lie and a joke, hmmm?" Moon chuckles lowly, making Gregory stiffen. He's heard the laugh many times, and it was never a good sign.
"You better stay-stay away from me, Moonman!" Finally, he escapes his prison, jumping up from his position right as Moon lunges. He dodges out of his outstretched hands at the last second, darting down the hall.
"Playing tag, Gregory? Naughty, naughty. It's way past your bedtime now..." Moon can very well see in the dark easily, so it wasn't hard to see the kid duck into the bathroom, but, where's the fun in that? The fun is the thrill of the hunt.
"Why are you being creepy all of a sudden!?" Moon hears him yell from the closed bathroom door. He also hears an audible 'click', indicating the locking of the door.
"Why are you being naughty and not sleeping?" the bot shoots back.
Gregory frowns, having to think about that for a second before shouting back with an audible whine. "Be-because you wrapped me up like a baby! I can't sleep like that!"
Moon drags his claws down the wooden door for dramatic effect, growling, "Excuses excuses..."
Inside, Gregory narrows his eyes at the door, thinking about what he should do. Sun isn't awake, but maybe that roommate of theirs is? He doesn't know if that would get him in trouble, though. I mean, Moon is just playing...right? He...he didn't suddenly pick up another virus?
At those thoughts, Gregory begins to sweat. It's just Moon's personality and nature to be like this! He isn't actually going to hurt him! For Pete's sake if the bot wanted to, he could just knock the door down!
On the other side of the door, Moon wonders how long he can play like this. It's been awhile since he's been able to do this and Gregory is just too fun to tease. He wiggles the door knob for a moment, but doesn't get a reaction. Before he could do anything else, a shrill scream erupts throughout the apartment.
All teasing stops, with Moon's eyes shrinking into little red pinpricks, fully alert. He looks down when the bathroom door softly opens, a concerned looking Gregory peering out. At Moon's face, he realizes he isn't playing anymore and comes out.
"What...happened?" he whispers. Moon shushes him. He knows what it was, easily able to determine the scream to be Codie. It wasn't one of pain, though, no, he's heard this one many times.
This was one of pure fear.
"Codie," he murmured, "Must have been a nightmare."
Gregory smacks his pants. "Well then get in there and help her?"
Moon sighs. "I-I can't. She'd probably get scared. After something like that, the last thing she needs is the scary Moon to walk in."
"But it was your job to help the children, right?" Gregory looks up, frowning at Moon's sorrowful face.
"It was, yes. I could never help, though. I only made things worse."
Gregory rolls his eyes, pushing on Moon's leg but he doesn't budge. "Codie's an adult. She's not going to scream if you walk in."
"Fear holds the mind hostage, little one, who knows what she could do in her state." The boy looks up at him again, confused. He's never called him that before.
"Look," he sighs, "if I go back to bed, will you help her?"
Moon looks into the kid's eyes, his own narrowing. "Why do you care?"
Said kid pouts and looks away, crossing his arms. "Because I'm actually tired now. Plus, I've had enough teasing for one night. So if it gets you off my back for the night..."
"Fine. But if I see you sneaking snacks-"
"I won't! Now go!" Gregory pushes him again before running back to bed. Moon steps up to Codie's door, rubbing his hands together. He starts by gently knocking but doesn't hear a response.
So, holding the door so it doesn't squeak, Moon quietly pushes it open, peering inside. Codie's form is hunched over on her side, back towards the door. Her breathing is even. 'She fell back asleep...'
Conflicted, Moon closes the door and heads to bed.
