Codie's Conundrum
Codie chews on her fingernails as she contemplates calling an advice nurse. Every time she's gone to the bathroom, it has hurt and she doesn't know why. She also debates asking Sun and Moon about it, knowing they have to have some sort of info since they have medical programming.
Then again, Codie despises talking to them about anything about her body. It's weird and awkward. "Ugh..." She can't worry about doctors and appointments right now anyway as it's Halloween and the boys, mainly Sunny, want to go out in costumes.
Codie was never fond of Halloween. Her mom and dad said she always hated going out. 'I mean,' Codie scoffs to herself, reminiscing, 'my parents taught me to never talk to strangers and don't take candy from strangers and now all of a sudden I'm supposed to do both on a specific day?!'
"Star?" A gentle rap from the door breaks Codie's train of thought. "Are you alright? You've been in there quite a while..." Sun asks in a worried tone. Codie opens the door and sees the sunny bot take a step back, a small smile on his face.
Codie steps out, moving her bangs and addressing him, "Yeah, I think so." Sun takes note of her choice of words before clapping his hands.
"Goodie! Well, me and Moon are going out to the store! We're making our costumes and need some supplies. Are you sure you don't want to make a costume with us?" Codie sighs at his pout.
"Yeah, I'll just wear something simple, Sunny-Bun. I really don't want to spend money and time on making something I'll wear once." Sun supposes he can understand that, but that doesn't mean he thinks it's any less fun!
"Hnn! Fine! Did you want to come with us at least?" The ginger shakes her head.
"No, I uh, have some things to do." Sun tilts his head.
"Oh! Okay, Sunbite! We'll be back soon, shouldn't be too long." He bends down and grabs her head. "Mwah!" he exclaims, leaving a kiss atop her hair.
Codie blushes, the action leaving her tingling.
Sun bids her goodbye and quickly walks out the front door, a grumbling Moon sauntering after him. He also bids Codie goodbye and shuts the door behind him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
"What kind of paint do you think we should get, Moonie? There's just so many to choose from!" Sun gushes at the colorful selection of many different branded paint tubes.
Moon crosses his arms. "Whichever ones are washable, Sun, I don't want another mishap like last time." Sun only chuckles awkwardly in response, his rays shrinking just a bit.
Back at the daycare, Sun had ordered some brand new paint, not knowing it wasn't exactly washable. The kids that day had gotten it everywhere. Moon found it amusing at first, until some kid splashed some onto their face and chest. Moon stopped laughing then.
The paint stuck to their body and got into crevices, forcing them to go to parts and services for help getting it off.
"Right...yes of course..." Sun whispers, still embarrassed by his mistake. He eyes a couple tubes and grabs them. In his left, a dark blue, and his right, a bright yellow. He hands over the yellow to his brother. "What do you think?"
"I'm more of a royal blue..." He points at Sunny's tube. Said bot nods and puts it back. "But this yellow is good."
"Great! And heeeeere's...royal blue!" Sunny exclaims once his eyes land upon the selected color. He takes it and puts both tubes into their shopping basket. "What else, what else?" Sun ponders out loud, his hand on his chin.
Moon rolls his eyes, not enthusiastic about the costumes Sun begged him to agree to this year. Usually, Moon enjoys Halloween and dressing up for the children in the daycare. This year though, they are separated and Sun wanted to do a twins' costume.
The outfit he decided on? Each other.
Sun wants to dress as Moon and he wants Moon to dress as him. The sunny bot came up with the perfect idea of looking like they would at the daycare. I.E, no shirt, switch pants, and paint themselves the opposite colors.
Moon really doesn't want to give Sun his night cap.
The jester begged for months, though, bringing it up every so often to torture Moon. He finally caved early October in exchange for not being out too late.
"We just need body paint, right?" Moon questions, wondering what Sun could possibly be looking for. Sun whirls around, his lips pursed as he narrows his eyes at Moon.
"No! We need felt to make sun rays!" At that, Moon also narrows his eyes.
"Seriously?" he asks grumpily. His brother only nods and huffs while walking away to find the materials. Moon throws his head back with a groan and follows after him.
"Ohmigosh! Moon?" Moon blinks in confusion at the calling of his name. His head swivels 180 before his body can turn around, a habit from being security. Chrissy stands at the end of the aisle, her little sister right next to her hand in hand.
Ame squeals, tapping her feet on the ground excitedly at the sight of her favorite animatronic. Moon smiles down at the little girl and then looks back up to address Chrissy. "Hello there."
"What are you doing here?" Chrissy asks, walking up to the tall bot. Ame sticks her hand out and makes a grabby motion. Chrissy lets her hand go.
Moon bends down and picks up the girl, her giggling on the way up as he stands back to his full height. "Sun and I are picking out some materials for our Halloween costumes for tonight," Moon replies. Ame grabs at his cap, playing with the puff ball on the end.
Chrissy pushes her hair behind her ear. "Oh, you two are going out!? That's awesome! I'm taking Ame out, too! She wanted a wand last minute to go with her fairy princess costume, though, so I'm here to get a dowel for the handle.
Moon hums, a soft smile on his face, booping Ame on the nose. He misses taking care of the little ones.
"Is Codie going, too? Hey!" Chrissy gasps, cutting herself off before continuing, "What if we all went together! It'd be so much fun! And Ame just loves you and Sunny!" Chrissy clasps her hands together, looking up at Moon with hope in her eyes.
"Yes, yes, yes!" Ame claps happily.
"I don't see why not." Moon shrugs. Ame grabs hold of Moon's finger. "Sun will be excited to see you, Little Star," he says to Ame, ruffling her hair with his free hand. Chrissy jumps up and down.
"Yay! O.M.G, this'll be so much fun! Come on, Ame, let's go finish your costume!" Chrissy reaches out and Moon hands the little girl over. "We'll come over around six!"
~~~~~~~~~~
Codie sits at her computer, deep in thought. She sighs, unsure on what to dress as for Halloween. 'Maybe something to match Sun and Moon? But what! Ugh, and Sun is so excited for me to join them, too... Heck, even Moon loves this holiday! Probably because he's a trickster.' Codie giggles to herself, thinking about Moon playing tricks on little kiddies.
She thought about being a star, but she has no idea how one would dress up as a star. She groans and pushes herself out of her chair, stretching and walking over to Sun and Moon's walk in closet. She stands around, hands on her hips, searching until she finds it.
"Ah-ha!" Codie bends down and drags a box into the open. It's labeled 'Craft Supplies' with a backwards 'p'. She figured Sun might have some crafts she could take inspiration from and starts digging in.
"Geez," she murmurs, grabbing a hand full of soft white puffs, "this is a lot of cotton balls..." The ginger wonders what he could possibly get out of with this many. Codie gasps, a lightbulb turning on above her head. She hurries and dumps the container holding the cotton balls onto the carpeted floor and spreads them out.
She thinks for a moment. Yes! This could work! Mind made up, Codie gathers everything she may or may not need and returns to her room, being sure to lock the door lest an animatronic barges in and ruins her surprise.
She goes through her wardrobe, looking for anything plain and white. The ginger manages to pull out a plain t-shirt and a pair of capris, the latter being something she could manage to part with as it's getting a bit too small for her liking.
With everything she needs, Codie begins putting together a costume for tonight.
~~~~~~~~~
"Oh, Honeybee!" A jovial Sun announces his return home, calling out to Codie, "We're home!"
A disgruntled Moon comes in behind him, carrying four plastic bags of supplies. "That's a new one," he notes in a grumble.
"I just came up with it! Good, right?" Sun asks proudly, his rays spinning. He spins around and sees Moon struggling to keep everything in their bags. "Oh! Goodness, let me help!" Moon deadpans, practically shoving a couple bags into Sun's chest.
"Welcome back!" They hear Codie greet, sounding muffled. "Don't come in my room! I'm doing stuff!" she warns. The boys take note of her tone of voice, giving each other a look, before shrugging.
"I really don't know why we bought this much stuff," Moon says, dropping his loot onto the kitchen table.
"For future crafts, Moonie! Not just the costumes, I thought I explained it to you." Moon rolls his eyes. 'As if we don't already have a couple boxes filled to the brim with materials already...' The lunar bot lets it go, though, knowing how much his brother enjoys such hobbies.
Moon holds out a hand. "Here, hand me the yellow felt from your bag." Sunny does so, being sure to hand him some glue as well as a plain headband. Moon thanks him and sits down. He hums in thought, remembering the times he's done a few arts and crafts at the daycare.
He wasn't very good at it, he'll admit. It was much more of Sunny's talent than his, but he did enjoy dabbling in it from time to time. His deep blue fingers deftly get to work, cutting out and then gluing and attaching as many rays as the cheap headband would allow.
Across from him, Sun worked on his costume, hand sewing an identical, though more patch-work-y, night cap like Moon's. Moon scoffs, leaning back in his chair, gesturing to Sun's work. "Geez, you're much better than I am at this stuff."
Sunny looks up, an 'O' formed from his lips. "Nonsense, Moonie! Your headband looks great! It's..." he grimaces, "a little uneven but that's okay!" Moon wonders if the kids ever felt reassured by Sunny's words.
Who is he kidding? Of course they did. Moon, however, is not. "Are you sure I can't go as a sheet ghost?" Moon asks impassively.
"Psh," Sun waves his hand but stops when he realizes Moon was serious. "Uh, yes! I am sure, Moonie. These costumes will look great, I promise! I'll bet Ame will love them, too!" He mentions the little girl that he knows Moon's heart has a soft spot for.
He scrunches up his nose, Sun's tactic getting to him. "Fine!" he recedes, "Where's that body paint?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Codie shuffles back and takes a look at her hard work. She had covered the entirety of her t-shirt and capris in cotton balls and it only took her a couple of hand torturous hours! She's surprised the boys haven't attempted entry, but supposes they must be busy on their own costumes.
The ginger chews on her lip. She really hopes they'll like what she did.
Standing up, Codie twists and pops her knees, a groan bubbling up her throat from the sweet release. She exits her bedroom and finds her jesters at the kitchen table, plastic, string, and clumps of dried glue strewn all about.
"Whoa! Did I miss some sort of craft tornado?" she jokes, stepping over some plastic packaging.
Sun excitedly beckons her over, giddily holding up his completed night cap. "Look! What do you think?"
Codie takes hold of it, the soft material and excellent stitch work somehow not surprising her. It was Sun who made it, after all. "Beautifully made, Sunny!" Codie complements, handing it back over. Sun beams at her.
She looks at Moon's as well and can't help but think her costume is sub-par compared to theirs. She begins second guessing herself, wondering if she should even go at all now. "Um, so you guys all done? It's almost six, I figured you'd want to leave before then."
Moon glances at his clock. "Huh, we've been at it for a while now, Chrissy should be here any time."
'Huh?' Codie glances back and forth between the two animatronics. "Huh? Chrissy? Why's she coming over?"
Moon leans on his hand, elbow on the table. "We ran in to her at the store. She suggested we all go together with her and her little sister. I thought it'd be fun. She's coming over at six so we could all head out."
"O-oh," Codie stutters out. Why does that bother her so much, though? Chrissy is her friend and surely it'd be more fun taking a little one out instead of just them adults? She suddenly feels self conscious about her costume, wondering if it'd be a good idea to wear it with them now that other people are joining, fearing she'd look silly.
"Come on, Moonie! We should get dressed before they arrive!" Sun exclaims, standing up and gathering their accessories. Moon languidly follows after him but not before turning to look at Codie.
"Why don't you put yours on, hm, Starlight?" Codie blushes and blinks rapidly.
"O-oh...my costume...?" Moon smiles down at her in confusion, ruffling her hair.
"Yes...? You did say you'd dress up in something simple, right? Sunny's been dying to see what you came up with." Codie huffs a puff of air. Of course he's excited about what she'll be dressing as. And dammit if that didn't make her feel guilty about not doing something better to impress him.
"R-right...I'll go get dressed..." Codie scurries off. Moon watches with slight concern, wondering why her mood dissipated so quickly.
The ginger closes her door, worriedly looking down at her hastily made costume. "I'm gonna look so stupid..." she groans, slapping a hand to her forehead. The thought of backing out worms its way to her thoughts but then the thought of Sun and Moon's disappointed faces causes her to wince.
She can't do that to the boys, no matter how embarrassed she thinks she'll feel. Honestly, Codie has half a mind to go out there and beg for them to stay in for the night and watch scary movies instead. That plan sounds so much more ideal to her.
Cuddling up in between the jesters, snuggled in her favorite blanket and eating takeout while watching horror movies? Codie feels her cheeks warm up at just the thought. She smacks her cheeks, unintentionally leaving a mark.
'Calm yourself!' she reprimands, 'They want to go out and have fun, do it for them!'
Mind made up, Codie dresses up in her homemade costume, tugging at the pant legs. They're uncomfortably short on her and she wishes she had thrown them out sooner. The cotton balls feel awkward, shifting the weight of her clothes every time she moves, from her shoddy craftsmanship.
"Sunflower!" Sun unexpectedly opens the door, causing Codie to whirl around in surprise, eyes wide. Before the door can open fully, Sun realizes his mistake, crying out, "Ohohoh! I'm so sorry! I forgot you were getting dressed!" He slams the door shut, cheeks flaring orange.
"You trying to get a peek at our Starlight, Sun?" Moon's condescending voice echos in Sun's head. He stands right outside her door, still blushing and afraid to move.
"N-no! It was an acci-accident!" he stutters back. He flaps his hands in worry, wondering if Codie was mad at him. Before Moon can reply, much to Sun's delight, the sound of Codie's door opening startles the big bot.
He takes a step back, almost tipping over in the process, and sees a flurry of white fill his eyes. Codie stands in the doorway rubbing her arm before thinking better of it before it can rub the cotton balls off. She wears her all white clothing filled to the brim with glued on cotton balls, making her look puffy.
Atop her head is a headband also filled with cotton balls, though shaped to look like...a cloud! Sun gasps when he finally realizes what she is. "Oh! Oh wow!" He flaps his hands again, happily this time. "You-you're a cloud!" The need to scoop his Sunbite up and hold her is severe.
Sun had always loved the softness of his human, but the thought of that combined with cotton balls? Sun could hold her for eternity!
"Ye-yeah...you know...to go with your celestial theme?" Codie looks down with a frown. "Though I guess clouds aren't that close to the sun and moon...I-I dunno..." she stutters, thinking she must look stupid. She hadn't even looked up long enough to realize Sun was completely blue and his rays were no longing poking out.
"You are absolutely adorable!" Sun gushes, eager to praise her work. "Clouds are a part of the sky, just like the sun and moon, Sunbite, I think it came out great! The head band really makes the costume, it looks just like a stereotypical cloud so people can figure out what you are!"
Codie lifts her head, cheeks still burning brightly, eyes landing on Sun's with a glimmer. "You really think so? I thought I looked silly..." She notices the night cap on top of Sun's head. "O-oh, you look just like Moon!" If Codie had seen Sun before hearing him, she would have thought he was his other half.
"Thank you!" He puffs his chest out proudly before holding out his hand. "And don't you worry about yourself, you look amazing," he says softly, smiling at her. Codie wants to rub her eyes, feeling the tears build up at how gentle and supporting Sun is being, but can't unless she wants to smear the makeup she applied.
To distract herself from falling into his eyes, Codie looks around. "Where's Moon?"
"He's outside with Chrissy and Ame. We called for you but you must've been so lost in your own head, silly little thing." Codie winces at that. What with her current pain and uncertainty about Halloween, she's not surprised she spaced out so hard.
"Right...I've had a lot on my mind lately..." Sun frowns lightly at that, concern etched in his features, but tries to hide it by beaming at her.
"Why don't we go out and have some fun, hmm? Maybe you can tell us about what you've been so worried about tonight?" Codie furrows her eyebrows, wondering what he means. Sun notices and continues. "You're not very hard to read, Sunshine," he teases, "You're worried about something, and Moon and I just want to help and be there for you!"
Is she really that transparent? Codie wonders if she should talk to them. The way Sun is looking at her makes her think he could solve any problem she comes forward with. "Yeah, alright..." Codie agrees. Sun's wires tighten up, giddy that she'll talk to them.
"Okay! Now let's go have fun and get some candy!" Sunny exclaims, taking her hand, gently squeezing it and tugging her along. A bubble of laughter comes out of Codie. Maybe this won't be so bad.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's bad. Every house they walk to, Codie refuses to go up to the door with Sun, Chrissy and Ame. She elects to hang back with Moon, almost looking like a pair of parents watching their kids go up by themselves.
She watches them with envy as the three laugh and pick out candy from the homeowner. "You know," she looks up at Moon, "you do look cute, Starlight." He stops and then goes, "Or should I call you something to do with a cloud?" He smirks at her, earning an eye roll.
"Yup," Codie deadpans, "Just call me Cumulus." Moon guffaws, startling Codie as she realizes she's never really heard Moon laugh.
He chuckles and chortles, yeah, but full on laugh? Wow. She watches his eyes crinkle with joy and her cheeks warm up at the sight. She needs to make him laugh more often. The three return back to the group just as Moon finishes laughing.
"Look! I got a snicky!" Ame holds up a fun size Snickers bar, a toothy grin on her face. Moon bends down and inspects it with a serious face for a moment before handing it back to her.
"Very nice, Little Star." He stands back up and addresses the adults, "So, how many more houses should we do? It's...currently eight-forty." Chrissy hums loudly in thought.
"How about until nine? Her bedtime was half an hour or so ago but since it's Halloween I figured it wouldn't hurt!"
Sun jumps up and down. "Yesyesyes! I want to fill my pillowcase to the top! Come on, Ame! Let's see if we can find king sized bars!" The giddy animatronic gently takes the little girl's hand and books it to the next house. The remaining three chuckle at the sounds of happy squeals.
"Thanks again for letting us join you three! Ame's been having a blast!" Chrissy says, "And your guys' costumes are amazing! I wouldn't have been able to tell you apart if it weren't for your different voices!" The noirette turns to Codie, "And your cloud outfit is so funny! I love it."
Codie slumps, 'It's not supposed to be funny...'
Moon eyes the two girls. "Well, let's not let them get too far ahead..." he gestures his hand, indicating for them to keep walking. Since the sidewalk is not big enough for the three of them, Codie and Chrissy walk in front while Moon is behind them. Sunny and Ame are two houses down, knocking on their next door.
After a few steps, Codie notices she's walking by herself. She turns around to see Chrissy and Moon stationary about fifteen steps behind. She can't hear from here, but Codie doesn't like the way Chrissy is smiling up at Moon. When Chrissy laughs at something and puts her hand on Moon's arm, Codie quickly turns away and walks quickly to catch up to Sun.
Her face grows warm as a pang shoots through her chest. She furrows her brows. 'Why was she looking at him like that? She hardly knows Moon and she's...she's touching him like that! Moon doesn't like to be touched! And he just let her!' Codie huffs. 'Why do I even care? I...I don't care! If Chrissy likes Moon then...'
Codie's stomach drops, 'If Chrissy likes Moon then, and...and wanted to date him...she'd be the one to make him laugh...she'd be the one to receive his thoughtful nicknames...she'd be the one to receive his gentle touches and she'd be the one to hear his beautiful music and soft singing voice...'
The ginger wipes her eyes, shocked to even feel she started tearing up. 'Chrissy is my friend, I should support her!' But the feeling of dread and jealousy and anger and just pure anguish is all she can feel at the thought of someone other than her on the receiving end of Moon's affections.
Sun stands in front of Codie, waving a hand in front of her eyes, and calling her name. He hums in thought as the girl is clearly lost in her own head again. "Suuuuuuunshiiiiine?" he drawls. Her eyes pop back into focus and she quickly wipes her eyes again. He tilts his head wondering, 'Was she crying?'
"Oh, sorry," she apologizes, looking around, anything to not look him in the eyes.
"You okay Little Cloud?" Sunny asks in concern. Ame stands next to him, staring up at Codie with big brown eyes. She lifts her bag up, holding it open.
"Would you wike some candy? It make me feewl better." Codie snorts at Ame's adorable child dialect. She leans down, inspecting the array of different kinds of candy strewn about. She grabs a mini Crunch bar.
"Thanks, Sweat Pea..." Codie says, ruffling Ame's hair. The girl splutters, whining about the ginger messing up her crown. Sun and Codie laugh and watch as she attempts to fix it. "So," Codie huffs, standing back up and looking at Sun, "how are you enjoying Halloween?"
"It's the bestest!" Sun exclaims. "My favorite holiday by far!"
"You say that with each passing holiday we celebrate..." Moon chimes in, having caught up behind them at Sunny's answer. Sun just pouts, mumbling something about not doing that. Chrissy steps away from Moon's side to address her sister.
"You sure you don't want to come to the doors with us, Sunshine? Don't you want candy?" Sun reverts the attention back to the ginger.
She crumbles under both jester's gaze, eyeing the sidewalk they stand on. "Er-uh, yeah. I'm fine hanging back with Moon. I don't like going up to strangers' houses. Never have." Both nod, semi understanding. Doesn't she know they're right there to protect her?
"Well!" Chrissy suddenly says, holding Ame on her hip. "We should head back home. It's been so fun! But this one is getting a little cranky!" She smiles at her sister who hides her face in Chrissy's shoulder.
Sun and Moon say their goodbyes to the five year old, earning a giggle or two before then wishing Chrissy a safe trip home. Codie forces a smile and waves to Chrissy as well. "I'll see you at work," she tells her lamely before mentally berating herself.
"Of course! See you then! And Moon!" Chrissy raises her eyebrows at the bot. "Remember what I told you!" She then turns and walks off, leaving Sun and Codie wondering what she meant by that.
Moon stands up straight, a light blush dusting his face plate, and avoids eye contact with the two. Sun narrows his eyes at his brother while Codie's shoulders droop, her thoughts dragging her down.
"Don't ask. Not right now." Is all Moon says to Sun.
"Fine! But you better explain!" Sun harrumphs.
Codie doesn't even notice the boys having an internal conversation as her mind spirals. 'What did she mean? And why did Moon blush?' A million scenarios blow through and none of them are good. She doesn't want to lose Moon! Or Sun, for that matter. Codie's sure she'd feel like this if it was either of them and she's not even sure why.
'You know why! Admit it!' she screams to herself. She starts to breathe harder, the cold October air nipping at her lungs as she does so. Moon notices and goes to put a hand on her shoulder. "H-hey-"
"Hey!" Both bots and human look up at the sudden exclamation. The sight of Gregory running down the sidewalk dressed as a race car driver surprises them. He waves at them before finally getting in front of them. He bends down to catch his breath, hands on his knees.
"Gregory!" Sun exclaims. "Where's Freddy?" Gregory rolls his eyes, jabbing his thumb behind his shoulder. The giant bear animatronic hurries down the sidewalk after his kid. He waves at the sight of them as well, big and wide.
"Superstar! Do not run off like that!" he lightly scolds. Freddy looks up and smiles. "Hello you three! Enjoying the holiday? I did not expect you to be out!"
"Sunny loved Halloween in the daycare so he wanted to experience it for real," Moon explains. Sun nods in agreement giddily. Both him and Gregory quickly delve into a heated (but civil) discourse on who's gotten the best candy so far as the others converse. Codie watches in amusement, loving to see Sun's childish and competitive side.
"We were just hitting a couple more houses on this block before heading home when Gregory ran off, presumably after seeing you guys." Freddy says. Codie just now notices the costume he's wearing. The bear is dressed as a vampire, donning a cape and even fangs. She isn't sure how he replaced his two teeth into sharp fangs, but it looks cool.
"We should be heading back soon, too. Codie wanted to watch scary movies but we dragged her out here with us." Codie shoots her head up in surprise. She didn't know Moon knew that. She thought they'd be out until Sun got tired.
"Oh! Well don't let us keep you!" Freddy breaks Sun and Gregory's argument over peanut butter or caramel candies. He bids them goodbye and Gregory promises they'll trade candy sometime. When the two turn around to leave, Codie panics and calls out.
"W-wait! Do you guys wanna join us for movies?" Sun and Moon frown at that, looking down at the ginger and wondering why she'd invite them. Gregory is too young to watch these kinds of movies, not to mention Freddy probably wouldn't let him anyway, and Freddy dislikes anything remotely horror.
Gregory's eyes light up like the full moon, looking up at his adoptive father, begging. Freddy looks unsure and uncomfortable, his ears twitching ever so slightly. Moon doesn't mind Freddy and Gregory, but he can't help but feel saddened that Codie would want to invite them for something they do together.
"I am...afraid I will have to decline, Codie," Freddy begins slowly. "I appreciate the offer, but maybe we can all get together and watch a more appropriate movie genre some other time?" Gregory deflates, though doesn't look surprised at Freddy's choice.
"RIght, of course, yeah...sorry." Codie twiddles her thumbs, embarrassed for even inviting them. She just didn't want to be alone with them with such conflicting and bombarding thoughts and she panicked.
Freddy can just feel the tension in the air, so he bids them goodbye again, putting a hand on Gregory's shoulder and guiding him away. "Was it just me or was there some mad tension in the air?"
Freddy laughs at Gregory's comment, opting to not say anything as they walk to their car.
~~~~~~~~~~
Codie rushes up the apartment steps crying, "Gottapeegottapeegottapee!" She fumbles with the keys. When she finally unlocks the door, she rushes in and hurries to the bathroom, shutting the door with a bang. Sun and Moon take their time on the steps, quietly conversing about what had happened.
"She's been weird lately, Moonie! You should have seen her earlier when I went to get her so we could go." Sun gestures his hands wildly.
"Do you think it's something we did?" Moon wonders, hand on his chin. Sun gasps and asks why he would think that. "Well, I don't think she actually wanted to invite those two over for movie night. So maybe she didn't want to be near one or both of us?"
"But...but we didn't do anything!" Sun argues. He then deflates and adds, "At least...not that I know of..."
"You mentioned she was worried about something earlier?"
Sun perks up. "Yes! Something has been on her mind lately! I got her to agree to tell us tonight after we got home. Maybe that's why she's been acting strange? I wonder what it could be..." Sun droops as he thinks, "Oh but what if she doesn't tell us now!?"
Moon puts a hand on his brother's shoulder, ceasing his worried movement. "Then we support her anyways, Sunny. We can't expect her to tell us every single thing." Sun pouts again, crossing his arms and grumbling.
The two enter their home, noting the bathroom is still being occupied, and head to their room. They undress and store their costumes in a box in the closet before putting on more comfortable clothes. Moon sighs happily at having his signature cap back where it belongs.
Sun exhales and stretches, pulling his arms back behind his head and letting his rays reemerge. "Ah!" He checks on his beetles. "So what movie are we watching?" Sun asks, eyeing Moon in the glass's reflection.
"I'm actually not sure. She said she wanted to watch the Halloween movies, but I'm not sure what that means. I think she meant 'a' Halloween movie."
Sun hums and eyes the bathroom door. "You notice she's been taking a while in the bathroom lately?" Moon stares at Sun, weirded out by the question.
"Sun?" Sun looks at him when he says his name. "One, she's a female. Two, that's literally not our business and three, don't be weird."
Sun stomps his foot into the carpet in defiance. "I-it's not weird! I'm just concerned for her well-being is all!" Moon only raises an eyebrow at him. "It was a simple observation!" Not impressed, Moon just leaves the room without another word.
Sun quickly follows after him, spluttering the whole way.
Codie wonders what got Sun so riled up as she listens to him drone presumably to Moon out in the living room. Though she doesn't attempt to listen to what he's saying exactly as she tries to finish her business without whimpering in pain, knowing how well their hearing is.
She bites down on her lip and breathes a sigh of relief when she finally finishes. She wipes and goes to flush the toilet but stops upon seeing a strange object in the bowl. She cringes but gets closer, noting the round but jagged shape of it despite how tiny it is.
Okay, this is definitely something she needs to bring up. If a foreign object gets expelled from your body, now is the time to speak up. How does one bring this up to your overbearing robot roommates, though?
Codie cringes at the thought of explaining something that came out when she went. What if they want to see it? 'Hell no.' Codie immediately flushes at the thought. She supposes, at the very least, that this might be the reason for her abdominal pain, so there's that.
She washes her hands and exits the bathroom, finding the two boys on the couch with their streaming service up and ready to go. She smiles at them from the hallway. Then she thinks back on Chrissy with Moon and her smile forms into a frown.
With a sigh, Codie sits in the middle of them, that being the only spot (they know what they're doing) and takes the remote. "So this movie is a cult classic. Very good, I think you guys will like it. Not too gory, Sunny." The jesters watch as Codie clicks on 'Halloween'.
"Ohhhh! It's called Halloween!" Moon says, amusement twinkling in his eyes. Sun laughs and Codie nods with a hum.
"Yup! Oh, lemme grab a blanket." Codie almost forgot to grab her favorite one from her bed. She goes to stand up but gets grabbed by a yellow hand. It pulls her back down before draping said blanket over her lap.
"I figured you'd want it!" Sun smiles sweetly at her, warming her heart. She goes to press play but once again gets stopped by Sun's hand. "Actually, Starshine. We wanted to know if you're comfortable telling us if you're alright? Moon and I have both noticed you've been a bit...off."
Codie blinks. She'd forgotten all about agreeing to talk to Sun tonight. She chews on her bottom lip, avoiding eye contact with Sun as she whines. "Well..um, yes something has been wrong but I'm not exactly sure how to...to explain it?"
Moon pats her shoulder. "Take your time, Starlight."
"Can...can we just watch the movie? I'll take the time to think about it and then tell you after." The boys stare at her, not entirely convinced. "I promise!" Moon sighs and agrees but Sun demands a pinky-promise, of which Codie gives.
Great. She's got an hour and thirty one minutes to figure out how to talk to them about her body. This'll be great and not embarrassing or awkward at all!

As soon as the movie is over, which Codie thought went by way too fast by the way, Codie glances at Sun, silently asking for his opinion. "I admit...I did enjoy this one," he says but adds, "However! I did not care for the murder still!"
"I don't think you'll ever care for murder even if it is just a movie..." Moon teases. He brushes a hand over Codie's hair. "So, what is it that's so hard to tell us, hmm?" Sun stops fidgeting and becomes serious, eager to understand his human.
The ginger groans, throwing her head back. "Ugh. This is so stupid! It's embarrassing, guys!" she explains. When they don't respond, she continues. "So, you know I've been going to the bathroom a lot, right?" They both nod. "Well, it hurts every time I do so and I wasn't sure why. I think it's why my stomach has hurt too."
Their expressions grow more distressed. Their human was in pain and they didn't know?
"Anyway, tonight...something might have...um...came out?" The two stay silent and that makes Codie more upset. "Could you maybe scan me or something?"
The two had already done so as soon as she expressed her previous pain but she doesn't need to know that. "We don't see anything worrisome, Starlight. What is it that you expelled?"
Codie hides her face in her hands. He sounds like a doctor. "Something small and jagged," she mumbles into her sweaty hands. The two immediately begin searching what it could possibly be.
"Do you ache right now?" Sun asks softly. Codie shrugs.
"Not really..." Sun places a hand on her stomach anyway, warming her up like before when she had surgery. "Oh-I..." she relaxes into his touch, "thanks..."
Moon stops his search and thinks he's found an answer. "I think it might be a kidney stone. Have you ever heard of that?" Codie shakes her head. "Well, Kidney stones are hard deposits made of minerals and salts that form inside your kidneys. They pass through the urinary tract and can be painful and uncomfortable. They are described to be quite small, jagged like you said, and yellow-ish in color."
"Oh..." 'A kidney stone?So I just...pee it out?' Codie fidgets. "I guess I could have figured that out on my own...sorry for probably grossing you out..."
Sun coos, using his other hand to run his fingers through her fair. "Oh, Sunflower, don't be sorry about this. We were worried about you. We're so glad you told us and we were able to figure out what it was together." He then asks Moon, "Is there any treatment to make it go away faster? Or did she already pass all of it?"
Moon shakes his head with a frown. "There aren't really any treatments besides drinking lots of water and taking medicine for the pain. And she could possibly have multiple, there's no way to tell." Codie groans.
"I thought I'd finally be done with it since I passed one..." At least Sun's warm hand makes her feel better.
"Maybe you only had the one?" Sun offers, moving his hand up and down ever so slightly. "Let us know if you have more, okay? You don't have to go through it alone."
Codie grimaces. "But...it's gross? Ugh human bodies suck. I'll just let you know when they're gone or something..."
"Hey," Moon stops her degradation, "You are not gross. Human bodies may be weird but they're fascinating in their own way. We will be there for you through all your 'gross' bodily needs and problems, Starlight. It's what friends are for. We care about you. Your body doesn't change that."
Codie rolls over to hide her face, utterly embarrassed and touched. "Can we watch the next movie?" Moon and Sun laugh at the muffled plead.
"Yes, alright. One more and then you should go to bed. You've had lots of sugar tonight!" Sun says as if he wasn't the one wanting her to try all the candies he's collected.
Codie agrees, rolling back over to see the T.V. She spaces out as it starts, thinking about the two robots sandwiching her in. So many emotions have run Codie ragged tonight but there's one that stands out as she looks at her two boys, unaware.
'I...I think I'm in love...'
