Fate
The sun and the moon loved each other like no mortal ever could. Their love was legendary, to themselves as well as everyone else. They never felt nervous around each other. They never felt the need to impress. They were at home with each other. They were at peace.
But it couldn't last.
Fate, knowing the disastrous affects of their love, separated them before they could truly be be with each other. Putting them in different domains, naming them Day and Night. Separating them before they destroyed the world.
The sun and the moon hated this. They hated being away from each other before they could be together. They craved each other. But when one entered the human world, the other disappeared, always missing each other within the time of a heartbeat. The two lovers understood the need for the separation, but they hated it. Hated that their love was forbidden.
Fate hated that they had to separate the two, but they had no choice. They had to think of the fate of the world, after all.
But they weren't cruel. They had compassion. They had empathy.
And that is why they allowed the two to see each other two times a year. Two days where the sun and the moon could finally, finally, see each other. Could finally catch a glimpse of the on who owned their heart.
And these were the solar eclipses.
On these days, the world witnessed the face of true love. And yet, they fear it. Because it is new. Because it's different. Because it's change. And world has always been afraid of change. The world has always been mystified and yet scared of everything they had never witnessed.
But the sun and the moon were happy. Happier than ever that Fate had given them a small chance to finally see the one that made them who they were. They owned Fate their lives.
Fate smiled each time they watched the two lovers gaze adoringly at each other. Never as near as they wanted to be, but nearer than they had ever been to each other. They knew it wasn't ideal. They knew it probably hurt the two to be away from each other, but that was all they could do. Even this arrangement had created fear in the world of the mortals. But they allowed it, because there wasn't a love as pure as one the sun and the moon had.
And they always knew the importance and the beauty of love.

(I didn't give Fate a gender. I feel like Fate would be non-binary.)
