|| June 2 || Summer Solstice!
Since the beginning of time, prior to manmade tools that monitored time itself such as calendars and clocks, solstices and equinoxes were used to track down the year: the winter solstice, the spring equinox, the summer solstice, and lastly, the fall equinox. Solstices signified the longest - or shortest - day of the year whereas equinoxes were believed to have an equal duration of day and night.
Natalia took pride in celebrating such days. Not only was it a great tradition that was passed on from generations to generations, she personally felt as if it was an important marker in welcoming while bidding farewell to seasons. This year especially did she feel that need to say goodbye to the cold winter months and blossoming spring months to finally, summer.
The earth has awakened, new beginnings were forming, and growth was happening. What better way to celebrate the summer solstice than to actually do just that?
Not to mention, it was supposedly the longest day of the year and to hell if she didn't take the most advantage of it.
Throughout the weeks coming up to this very day, flyers were distributed and announcements were made: there was going to be a summer solstice party. If she was being accurate, it was more of an event than a party. For, the best way to take advantage of the 'longest day' on Earth was to actually do stuff throughout the day.
Rather than situating the event and party out on the open fields that surrounded the castle as she normally would, she guided her students and staff down to the beach that lined the coast of the island. Given its rather grassy terrain that naturally morphed into sand before finally stretching out and into the endless sea, it was the perfect for the activities she had planned for the day.
Loud and catchy music filled the air along with peals of laughter, dancing, and constant chatter; various of refreshing foods, drinks, and treats stood proudly amongst the crowd; arts and crafts were in one designated area while other games such as beach volleyball courts and festivities that one may spy at carnivals rested there as well. Natalia's main focus was on summer games that involved water - lots of it - and just simply ordinary fun. There were even areas in which her students and staff were able to just set camp and relax; many if not all were also welcomed to just take a dip in the cool waters and enjoy what this day can bring.
There was even going to be a promised bonfire (with toasty marshmallows, snacks, and drinks of course!) right after sunset to wrap it all up. It was going to be one hell of a fun day and she'd be damned if she couldn't give at least that to her students.
