22: Important People

Natsu

"What are ya doing, punk?" I snapped. "Come on! You gotta move faster."

The wingman scrambled to his feet, "Y-yes sir." Before he took off down the field again.

My crossed arms tightened, my dragon eyes narrowed, my throat boiling with anger.

Why? Well let me escort your attention to the penalty box.

Two strikers were practicing shots. I know you can probably guess who or of those strikers are. It was partner day. Jellal made the starters bond with the substitutes we chose so we could have friends. The sub I chose had skill but he lacked the spirit and the fire. That's why I'm making sure he can build up energy to release faster than he already is.

Lucy's substitute, however, was some blonde perfect looking American boy who didn't seem to know that she's mines! Wait... nobody but Wendy knows so that's kinda unfair. Oh I know! He didn't seem to... he - he's perfect.

"Aim and aim well," Luce was teaching him how to take the perfect free kicks around the penalty area. She pointed at the ball between their feet than at the goal, "If you have any knowledge on how that goalie works, then it should be easy for you to make a decision when aiming."

"So kinda like getting into his mind?" the guy asked, his eyes completely focused on the goal.

Lucy smiled, "You got it, Owen. Then..."

"You're glaring," someone's voice suddenly rang in my sensitive ears.

I jumped two feet out of the way, a leg raised defensively, face completely distorted. It was Ren and Lyon, both looking at me with wide confused eyes.

"What? I wasn't glaring," I denied.

"Uh huh," Lyon looked around me. "At Blondie, so I see."

I raised an eyebrow, "So you see what?"

"It makes perfect sense," the silver-haired defender chuckled mainly to himself, "The conversation Sherry and I heard on the plane. The way you two interact with one another, and now the glaring."

"It's a one sided love," Ren said, in a voice as if it's the most obvious thing in the world. "And here I thought it was something way more interesting then a simple high school love story."

"I'm taking that as an insult," I growled. "Shouldn't you be training your subs?"

"Coach said in about five minutes we're going to have start practicing since the game is tomorrow," Lyon replied. "We're supposed to go all the way up until dinner so if you need to sneak a smooch in with Lucy."

"Then you better do it now," Ren finished.

"These jerks..." I raised a fist, scaring them but they did nothing more than laugh at me before walking away.

I turned my attention from my teasing teammates to Lucy and the guy named Owen. He was preparing for a free kick, 23 yds out. Lucy stood nearby, arms crossed watching his body move her eyes completely concentrated on him. The anger from before returned when I saw her eyes shine when his form was perfect, giving him a beautiful shot to the back of the net.

"Beautiful," she said, raising a hand to him.

Owen gave her a high five, "I learned from the best."

Yeah, how about learning how to get out of a choke hold?

"Subs!" Jellal's voice saved Owen's life. He gave a small nod to Lucy before jogging down the field towards the coach.

Lucy started towards the goal to retrieve the ball. I looked around the field, everybody else was watching the little crowd forming around the familiar blue hair. I took the opportunity to follow her all the while glancing back to see everybody was still ignoring us completely. I saw her chip the ball up then turn. I was in front of her in seconds.

Being the klutz she was, she ran nose first into my training jersey with a gasp.

"Ouch, Natsu!" Lucy snapped cutely, rubbing her nose. "You're a loud person! Why weren't you being a loud person just then?"

"Because I wanted to do this," bending down, I snuck in the kiss on her cheek.

Her face immediately turned pink so I chuckled, "Just in case we don't have time later on."

Lucy

All throughout the rest of practice and practically the whole day, I was a jumpy person. Natsu kissed me in broad daylight in front of people who can't know we're 'together' as if it were nothing. If someone asked me to do something simple, I'd freak out, apologize then do it. Jellal and Erza were catching on but each time they asked if I was alright, I'd just wave them off; telling them I'm just very excited for the game.

That night I made sure Natsu slept in his little bed just in case another incident like the one that happened this morning were to happen again. We've stressed Wendy enough, she needs to be able to rest well. The poor girl is worn out from today's intense work out, she's doesn't need to work on covering for us as well.

My phone rang before I closed my eyes. I picked it up, didn't look at the contact name and slid the green button over to answer it.

"Hello?"

"Lucy?" that voice.

I shot straight up, "Lisanna!"

"Yeah, hey," there's something wrong. Her voice cracked a bit maybe out of worry I don't know. Whatever it is, it had me worried.

"What's wrong? You sound scared," I asked.

"Do you think you could come down to the lobby? I need to talk to you," she continued.

She's here? Well, she did say her uncle and her aunt lived in Denver, forty-five minutes away from Golden.

I glanced at my watch, "I have half an hour before an actual curfew. I'll be right there."

Grabbing my folded warmer on top of my suitcase, I left the bedroom; my room key in hand. In the living room, Natsu was watching something from the sofa. His head turned when he saw me come out.

"Going somewhere?" he asked.

"Oh uh," think, think, think. "I'm just going to talk to Erza about something in the lobby."

"Then I'll come with," Natsu reached for the remote.

"No," I said almost too quickly. "It's about girl stuff."

"What girl stuff?" he raised an eyebrow.

"You know," I made my way to the door in search for my flip-flops. "Stuff now stay."

He was standing now, his eyes narrowed, "You're hiding something from me Luce. I can smell it."

"If you stay," I grabbed the handle of the front door. "Then I'll make your favorite meal for the next month when we get back."

Natsu's face softened, "I just don't want you to go at something alone."

"I'll be fine," I opened the door. "Just stay, alright? Trust me."

He sighed, "You better not be lying about that meal thing."

"It's a promise."

I sprinted down the hall to the elevators when I saw that none of my teammates were around outside. I pressed the lobby button more than once; nearly sighing with relief as they slid shut. I walked to the back of the elevator and nearly slumped. Man, this stress is not needed.

I only went down one floor before it stopped to pick up another passenger. My phone buzzed just as it dinged. Looking down, I found it was a text message from Natsu saying: if anything bad happens, just shout. ill be there

I subconsciously smiled at the message. When Natsu wants to sweet, don't question it. Just accept it.

Soft footsteps entered the elevator, catching my attention. A girl, no a woman but she's only a little bigger than Wendy... no, it's the long light blonde hair that makes her seem a little taller. Otherwise, she is flawless.

"Good evening," she smiled at me, her green eyes looking at me. I nearly gasped when I couldn't see an iris in me.

Keep your cool Lucy, it's rude if you don't greet back.

"Good evening," I smiled at her.

She walked in and stood next to me. We didn't speak for the next two floors before she finally turned to me, "So where are you heading so late, young lady?"

"Oh uh," I scratched my cheek. "Getting some girl stuff you know."

"Is that so?" the woman giggled.

"How about you? Where are you heading?"

"To meet up with my husband," she sighed. "We have just arrived and I wanted to see this beautiful resort a little more but he insisted I attend this meeting."

See? I was right, she's older than me and she's married.

The door finally dinged our arrival.

"Well, I'll be leaving first," she waved at me. "See you later."

"Uh yeah bye ummm," I stopped.

"Mavis," she giggled. "You can just call me Mavis."

Mavis? Mavis, Mavis... where have I heard that name before?

Mavis ran off somewhere just as my phone vibrated. I accepted the call, "Lisanna. I'm in the lobby."

"Just walk around the elevator towards the couches."

I followed her instructions, keeping her on the line just in case something did happen to her like she's kidnapped and the person who kidnapped her is holding a ransom. She is from a rich family and targeting me as well is very likely.

I walked towards the coach and slowed a bit. My worst fears almost confirmed when I saw she was sitting with one other man. He looked elegant with short black hair and dark eyes. Almost harmless looking but if my mother taught me anything, it's to be careful of the innocent looking type of people.
Lisanna sat opposite of him, her eyes glued to the floor in front of her.

"Lisanna..." I said, walking up to them.

Her blue eyes looked at me, relief surrounded them when she saw me, "Lucy."

"Miss Lucy Heartfilia," the man spoke, his voice as silky as Ichiya's. "Welcome."

"And who are you?" I demanded walking so I was in front of Lisanna, blocking her. If this is the guy who demanded the money, I could take him out without any issues.

He was drinking some hot chocolate, his eyes watching me, "Why so stiff?"

"Because I don't know who you are?" I raised an eyebrow. "Now tell me who you are."

"Is that a question or a demand?"

"It could go either way," I replied. "Depending on how you act."

The man's eyes darkened at that, "Last I checked, I was simply sitting here enjoying this fine hot cocoa when you show up out of nowhere demanding me to give up my identity."

"That was because you knew mine without me ever introducing myself," I replied. "So yeah, I am a little creeped out at you and moreover, my friend seems nervous being around you."

He crossed his leg over his knee, "Then I swear to you I mean you and Lisanna no harm."

"Then start by telling us who you are and how do you know us?"

The man opened his mouth to say more but a different voice made him stop. I knew that voice, though. I've only learned it a few minutes ago.

There was Mavis, walking over to us. Her green pupil-less eyes rested on me for a brief second; widened in complete and utter surprise before she rushed over to the man.

"What did I tell you about bothering my players?" she snapped at the man.

Um excuse me, her players?

The man looked at the petite woman, "It's alright, honey. I know she's one of your players but do remember she has some business with my brother as well."

It clicked. Just like that, I understood the people I was talking to; the people I was in the presence of. My defensive structure completely ruptured then, causing me to lower my arms; the whole tough girl act I had going on mere seconds ago completely dissolving.

"Mavis Vermillion," I murmured under my breath. "Zeref Dragneel, Natsu's brother and Mavis' husband."

"Like I said," the man took another sip of his cocoa. "It is quite an honor that you could join us tonight Miss Lucy Heartfilia."
