18: Phone Call From Who?

Lucy

I can't believe he actually... ugh! He's so stupid that it's too cute to resist.

When Natsu fell asleep with me in his arms, it took me about half an hour to get him to the floor besides his shoes. He didn't budge from there on. I left him there with a blanket to take a shower. I came back and he was still asleep on the floor without a care in the world. I sighed but I really didn't want to wake him up so I grabbed a whole bunch of pillows (had to call room service for five more giant body pillows) and made this little bed for him. Salamander did stir once or twice but when I went to bed, he was snoring his head off.

Now, it's 4:30 AM. I had woke up, completely lost no thanks to this twelve hour jet lag. I changed into a simple white t-shirt and some sweats along with my new team's hoodie. I left the bedroom and found that Natsu was still asleep in the same exact place I left him.

Unbelievable... if this hotel were to explode, he'd be caught up in the middle of it all.

Sighing, I crouched down, my finger poking his cheek twice, "Natsu..."

He grumbled but didn't open his eyes.

"Natsu," I poked his cheek twice more. "Come on. We have to meet the others in half an hour for breakfast."

"I don't wanna..." he said barely.

"Natsu."

"Nah, I don't wanna, Papa," Natsu was dreaming. Dreaming about... his dad? Igneel was his father's name, right? He did mention his dad was no longer with him so I always assumed that his dad had passed away.

That's when I realize something. Other than his personality, I know absolutely nothing about Natsu's past or family. He never mentioned a mother or having any siblings but I always took it that he came from a rich family since he was arranged to marry Lisanna. She's from an extremely rich family, the Strauss' furniture are the trendiest and must have furniture in all households, offices, hotels, etc.

Then, what's Natsu's family like? Better question: if Lisanna were to call off their engagement just like that, would it enrage whoever is the head of Natsu's family's company? Would I be a target of a hired gunman for ruining a once and a lifetime engagement?

Just the thought of that made me shiver. And learning about Natsu's history/family is for some other time. I'm actually absolutely okay if I never had to learn about his past. I guess I'm done with all the drama that could revolve around it to risk it. Natsu and I are 'in progress' right now. That's the furthest we've gotten since five months ago. I'm not about to lose it.

I poked his cheek, "Come on, Natsu."

"I said five more minutes!" he grumbled louder.

Sudden banging came, knocking me over with surprise. Shortly after three bangs, an almost angry growl came through, "Natsu! Lucy! You two better be up!"

And just like that, his dragon eyes shot open. His whole body shot up as he ran to the door and opened it, "M-morning Erza."

"It's good to know you're awake," I could see her crossing her arms but Natsu's body covered her face. "Now hurry, you have fifteen minutes... Lucy?"

I sat up straighter, "Yes?"

"Why are you sitting on the floor?" I still couldn't see her face. "With a whole bunch of pillows?"

"Oh uh," I looked at Natsu's homemade bed. "It's Natsu's bed."

"Natsu's bed?"

"Uh huh," I stood up, finally able to meet my captain's eyes. "He fell asleep and wouldn't move so I made him a bed out of about ten pillows and a blanket."

The scarlet nodded her head, "I knew I could count on you to be responsible. Now hurry."

"I actually have to shower," Natsu scratched his pink bed head. "I'll meet you girls downstairs."

He turned to me, "Sound good?"

I blushed when I took in his kinda hazy appearance. He looked... hot was an understatement. His pink hair is usually messy but it was still a very good look for him. Right now, well, I'm just lost for words so the only thing I could do was nod once.

Natsu smiled then moved away from the door and turned to leave altogether. Making sure my phone was in my hoodie pocket, I quickly slipped out; ushering Erza out as well before closing the door.

"So?" she started. "What really happened last night?"

"Oh," I raised my hands. "Nothing. Nothing at all."

Titania raised an eyebrow, "Lucy..."

"Look," I grabbed her shoulders. "You're my closest friend on this planet. If something happened, you'd be the first to know, I promise."

Erza studied for a few moments longer. To the point that I thought she actually did figure me out because of how smart that mind of hers was. But she sighed and simply said, "Well you better. I know where you live otherwise and I could break in without a key at any given time."

Definitely not a lie.

"U-understood."

"Now, closest friend," her firm face finally cracking into a smile. "How about some of that deluxe free breakfast?"

Natsu

No matter how much I tried, the feeling of Lucy's lips on mines was a feeling that I can't erase. It's been replaying in my mind since I woke up this morning. I didn't even look at Lucy for long and I had to leave before I said something stupid in front of Erza. She didn't know about us yet.

It's just every time I shut my eyes to rinse my hair or wash my face, my lips tingled with the memory of Lucy's.

It was almost unhealthy.

I slipped on some black soccer pants and the black team t-shirt, getting ready to leave. I wonder if Luce brought her room key... should I bring -

Buzzing came from the night table beside the bed. There's my phone and it's charging, too. Luce must've plugged it in after I fell asleep last night. She sure does make a good caretaker, that's for sure.

My mind was too pre-occupied with looking for my wallet that I slipped the answering button without a single glance.

"Hel-"

"Natsu," the familiar, deep voice made my whole body boil with annoyance. "How have you been?"

"Well," I growled. "But then you called."

"Now, now that's no way to speak to someone that's older than you."

"Just cut the shit and tell me what you want," I snapped. "You're not one for small talk so this is just a waste of your busy time."

"So you do care for me. For a second there I thought you want me dead."

"Don't get me wrong. I do want you dead but then I have to take over the stupid CEO position, not really my style."

"You want me to cut to the chase so I shall fulfill your wish, Natsu," the man cleared his throat. "I got a phone call this morning, from the Strauss' calling off your engagement with Lisanna is that true?"

I wasn't completely sure until last night when Lucy told me Lisanna was gonna do everything in her power to stop our arranged marriage. But the kiss afterwards completely wiped my mind of anything important afterwards.

"Yes."

"And how did you expected me to react?"

"Definitely spitting fire out of your mouth but seeing as though you're still on the phone, nothing has happened."

"Yet, Natsu."

"Listen," I started, as slowly as I could. "I never wanted to call off the arrangement but Lisanna did so that's their problem. I'm just getting something good out of all of this."

The man on the other end was silent for a few more seconds. I know this man, every since I was a little kid. He always had something to say, and he knew whatever he says is going to affect his peers whether it's negative or positive.

"Did you by chance know, Natsu?" and here's one of those negative times.

"Know what?"

"Oh foolish as always."

"Cut the shit and tell me."

"Your little blonde girlfriend, what's her name?"

"Like hell I'll tell you. Stay away from Lucy. If you lay a finger on her, I'll break and burn every single bone in your body."

"Why don't you talk to her about her past more?"

"I do know her past."

"If you say so," he chuckled once. "Have a good rest of your day, baby brother."

And my older brother hung up.
