jiae loved seeing sosuke get flustered over the littlest sentimental things. the moment she is referring to is the face he made when she appeared at his door with a cake in her hands.

earlier that day, hyeyeong and jiae decorated a plain vanilla sheet cake for sosuke, covering the thing in colorful frosting and candies.

when she stood with their masterpiece in his doorway, jiae couldn't fight back her giant smile as sosuke cleared his throat and blushed. "y-you guys are ridiculous." his voice caught cutely on the first word, making him angry while jiae laughed.

"are you gonna let me in or what? we have candles to light!"

"you brought candles, too..?"

it didn't take long for the rest of the group to file in, excluding miles as he was still in the states. yuxi even brought a cone-shaped party hat, strapping it onto sosuke's head when he didn't have it in him to protest any longer.

the group of five were gathered in the living room watching studio ghibli films when yuxi suddenly shot upright with a hand out as if to silence everyone, though they weren't speaking. "everyone shut up! miles is calling! hello?"

there was a soft ding sound from her phone before the almost robotic sound of their friend filled the room. "happy birthday mr. sexy man!"

jiae cackled, falling over with her hands clutching her stomach when sosuke's face burned pink. "dude... thanks." he ran a hand through his hair when yuxi walked over and handed her phone to him, a close up of miles's beaming face appearing on the screen. "what are you doing now?"

"uh, i just got to my grandmother's house. she lives in atlanta and we haven't seen her in forever, so my brother and i rescheduled our flight back until tomorrow morning so we could hang out." yuxi groaned dramatically. "she's old, damn!"

"i miss your dumbass!" she yelled back at him from across the room. jiae is 100% sure they would have continued bickering if not for the magical snap of hyeyeong's fingers, which silenced them both.

"anyway," miles said in a louder voice than needed. "what are y'all doing? watching studio ghibli? did soyi make takoyaki?"

sosuke's lip curved up into a grin, revealing the left side of his teeth. "she did. it was pretty good, actually." jiae mimicked soyi's coy smile as he continued. "oh, dude, ji and hye even made me a cake. i mean, they decorated it."

miles gasped through the phone. "no fucking way. i need pictures right now."

"shut up," the girl's said at the same time. "it looked great!" it would have looked better if jiae had held it correctly and not smeared frosting all over the side of the box, but they didn't mention that.

there was some talking on miles's side, and the boy stood as he began speaking again. "alright, luke needs my help with something. i'll talk to y'all later. have a great day, birthday boy!"

after the thanks and farewells, miles hung up. sosuke handed yuxi's phone back to her and straightened his shoulders as he returned to his spot on the floor. "my neighbor dropped a case of beer off this morning if you want some."
