jiae snuggled into her boyfriend's side as they laid on her couch, his phone in his lap as he started playing the video. haechan made sure to hold the device so that the screen was facing his girlfriend where she didn't have to stretch to see.

the camera angle showed that his phone had been propped up against the stand that holds the lyrics, and jiae smiled when haechan made a cute smile in the video.

"what song is this?" jiae asked, her cheek pressed against hyuck's hoodie-covered bicep.

"real life," he hummed before turning the volume up so that she could hear.

they listened together, and jiae smiled at the sound of his raw vocals. the video wasn't edited, so there were many parts that haechan skipped, claiming they were "boring".

finally, they got to the part he was most excited for. jiae lifted her head slightly to catch a look at the wide smile on her boyfriend's face, which made her smile back.

through the phone, haechan beautifully sang in english, "let me lay here in your arms," and paused the video to look at her. his eyes sparkled. "i was thinking about you when i sang this."

his eye contact was so brilliant and intense that jiae couldn't stop herself from looking away. she could see how proud he was of himself, and it made her wonder how often or rarely he felt like this.

blushing, jiae hesitated before leaning over to place a quick kiss on his cheek, but haechan moved last minute, resulting in a soft kiss to the ear.

"... did you just kiss my ear—"

"you weren't supposed to move!" jiae laughed back in defeat, her hands covering her embarrassingly red face. "it was supposed to be a sweet moment!"

"no, it was totally sweet!" haechan tried, a giggle slipping into his words as he wrapped his arms around his girlfriend. she fell against his chest, and hyuck held her tight as he laughed. "i loved it. genuinely the most romantic ear kiss i could have asked for."

she pinched beneath his arm, causing hyuck to scream dramatically and fall back as if his arm had just been amputated. "you monster..."

giggling at his antics, jiae allowed herself to fall against him, smiling when he, again, wrapped her up in a hug.

"you could stay, if you want..." she offered, her head resting against his chest. jiae listened as his heart started beating a bit quicker, and she playfully slapped his peck. "stop thinking dirty thoughts."

"i-y—i wasn't thinking dirty thoughts," he hurriedly stammered out. jiae smiling and pulled herself back into a sitting position before grabbing his hand and helping him up next to her.

jiae pulled her legs into a crossed position. "we could just stay here and cuddle. you know, as couples do."

"right, of course. sorry, i'm just such a big fan, sometimes i forget how to function around someone as famous as you," he said, causing jiae to laugh.

she looked over, slightly surprised to find haechan's eyes trained on her, a sweet smile on his lips. her laughter died to a soft chuckle as she looked away. "what?"

haechan didn't hesitate before saying his next words, and jiae melted. "you're so beautiful. everything about you. i can't help but stop and stare when you laugh, especially like that. you're just... beautiful, jiae."

sucking in a slow breath to try and calm her racing heart, jiae turned so that she was fully facing her boyfriend and rose a hand to brush some of his long bangs out of his eyes. her hand stilled at the soft spot where his jaw met his neck.

"can i, um..." she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "do i have your permission to kiss you?"

she could hear hyuck's breath hitch in his throat. his eyes flicked between hers and her lips, as if he wasn't sure where he was supposed to look. he was nodding as he spoke. "sorry, i'm just... no one's ever asked for permission before."

jiae's ears burned. "oh. did you not want me to—"

haechan leaned forward and gently captured her lips in a kiss. jiae always imagined his lips to be soft, and she smiled into the kiss when she realized she was right. her hand trailed from his jaw up to his ear, fingers tangling themselves in his brown hair as his hand snaked around her waist.

as far as first kisses went, jiae quickly decided that this was the best. when they broke apart, hyuck let his forehead fall against hers, his bangs delicately tickling the bridge of her nose. his breath was sweet against her lips, like mango and pineapple. 

"tell me that was the best first kiss you've ever had," jiae said, a slight tease in her voice.

haechan smiled. "that was the best first kiss i've ever had."

"honestly?" she asked quietly, pulling away and brushing the hair near his ear with her thumb. "i haven't kissed anyone since, like, high school."

"same," haechan said, then paused. "i mean, if i went to high school. probably same. i think. wait, how old are high schoolers? wait, but i have kissed mark though, so this might only be tied for my number one too kiss."

jiae laughed, internally screaming as haechan admired her the entire time. she shook her head and carefully pushed him so that he wasn't facing her.

i am so utterly, completely, undeniably in love with this boy.
