the pair sat at their usual table, drinking their bubble tea, and stared at daniel as he worked. "how's it going between you two? how long have you been together again?" jiae asked without taking her eyes off of the cashier, and hyeyeong sighed as she thought. "mmh, six months? i'll have to double check with him."

jiae looked over when she noticed hyeyeong turn to face her. "what about you? how are you and, well, you know."

smiling at the "code name", jiae pushed a loose strand of hair behind her ear and nodded. "good. really good. it's actually kind of scary sometimes how much i like him. like, it can overwhelm me, i guess." she didn't elaborate, but she didn't really have to when she was with hyeyeong.

the older pursed her lips in understanding. "what about you? how are you doing?"

"fine," jiae answered immediately, though she knew the second she made eye contact with her friend that there wasn't any reason to lie.

sighing, the girl wordlessly opened her phone and pulled up the messages from the day before. she slid it to where hyeyeong could read, carefully analyzing the older's face as she did.

a minute and several jaw ticks later, hyeyeong looked up and placed her hand over jiae's. "don't listen to anything they have to say. do you want me to go with you to get a new number?"

"no, i..." jiae slumped into her seat and slowly nodded. "yes, please. it's probably pointless, though. i don't know how, but they found where i work."

hyeyeong didn't hesitate before responding. "quit. i can see about getting you a job with me. or we could ask lin, i'm sure she'd help—"

"i don't want to run away." jiae clasped her hands behind her neck. "as much as i complain, i like my job. i'll tell my boss not to give my information to anyone else, and if they show up, i'll remind them of the restraining order i have."

after a few moments, hyeyeong slowly spoke. "does haechan know? have you told him?"

jiae shook her head. "not about this. not yet, at least. he's got so much on his plate right now, you know?"

"yeah, but he has connections through the industry. i'm sure if you told him, he'd be able to get, like, a better restraining order, or something." hyeyeong let out a huff, clearly irritated. "i don't know. i just know that he could help keep you safe."

sliding her phone back over to her, jiae picked it up and dropped it into her bag. "i am safe. and i'll tell him if they try contacting me again."

hyeyeong grabbed jiae's hand, forcing her to meet her eyes. "i don't know if you forgot how they treated you, but i didn't. you aren't being nearly as serious as you should be."

"i didn't forget," jiae snapped. "i'll never forget. i'm thankful for your concern, but please, i'm already freaked the fuck out. i don't want to do anything until i have to. i'll tell hyuck, i just need one goddamn second to think, okay?"

clearly taken aback, hyeyeong let her hand slip from jiae's. immediately, the younger felt nothing but guilt. she sighed before reaching over to grab hye's fingers. "i'm sorry, i shouldn't have snapped at you. i promise, i'll tell hyu—him."

jiae waited a moment, afraid hyeyeong would leave, but the latter only huffed and wrapped an arm around her friend. then she said, "you know, it was hyuck's idea for me to take you out?"

"what?" jiae pulled away, eyes widening in surprise. "why would be do that?"

"well, clearly he gets you more than you think. he really cares about you, ji."

jiae felt heat rush to her cheeks and pressed a hand against her face to try and cool off. "i know. he's someone so special, i don't know how..." she paused and let the words die in her throat. she wasn't about to be even more pitiful than she already felt, despite the kind things hyeyeong would say. she didn't really want to hear any reassurance right now.

"hey, guys!"

hyeyeong and jiae looked up to see daniel grinning at them with three muffins in his hands. "i got one of each. so, what are we talking about?"

soyi couldn't help but stare at the man standing in the doorway. his hair was a bit wet, as if he'd just taken a shower. she nearly had to close her mouth with her hand as she hurriedly thought of something to say.

shooting a glance at her attire, soyi realized she was dressed in everything from the night before except her jeans and shoes. it was difficult to raise her gaze back to her celebrity crush's.

"did we..?"

jaehyun's ears instantly reddened, his eyes wide and hands raised as he stuttered out a reply. "no! no, nothing like that! you fell asleep on the couch, and it didn't feel right to leave you there. i slept in the living room."

soyi dropped her hot face into her hands. "oh god, this is so embarrassing! i'm sorry, i shouldn't have assumed!" she brushed her hair away from her face, keeping her hands on her burning cheeks. "i'm sorry."

"it's okay, soyi." he awkwardly scratched the back of his head. "i guess it does kind of look bad..."

but soyi was frozen. she struggled to meet the idol's eyes without blushing. "you know my name?"

jaehyun looked confused. "yeah? i felt bad referring to you as the barista with big eyes."

soyi's eyes darted all around the room, looking everywhere except at jaehyun's freshly showered form.

"should i even ask about the pants?" she said with an awkward smile, only partly joking.

jaehyun ruffled his hair with a towel. "april. and that girl who was talking to yangyang all night. yuxi, i think."

relief immediately sept into soyi's bones. at least someone knew where she was. she didn't want sosuke and hyeyeong going crazy looking for her.

still in bed, soyi reached across the sheets to where a large pair of basketball shorts and black t-shirt sat. jaehyun got the message and stepped into the hallway. "i'll let you get dressed. the guys are making breakfast, if you're hungry."

"the guys..?"

"doyoung, johnny, taeyong, and jungwoo. they stayed, too. you can hang out here, too, if you want." then, jaehyun disappeared into the living area, only to return a moment later with a sheet of paper. he left it on a desk near the door. "my number's on here. text me if you want me to distract the guys so you can, i don't know, sneak out, or something?"

soyi couldn't help but laugh at that. she wished her heart wasn't beating as fast as it was. "very thoughtful of you to spare me the walk of shame." before jaehyun could say anything, she continued. "it's okay! i could eat."
