jiae didn't want to get out of bed.

she was afraid that if she moved, he would disappear. that this was a dream, and haechan was still halfway around the world.

her hands were tucked against her chest, fingers lightly grazing the warm, tanned arms wrapped tightly around her body. she could feel his chest against her back, his heat through her clothes, and his heartbeat in her rib cage. but jiae refused to move or open her eyes, just in case.

hyuck didn't get home until after jiae's evening with the others ended, so unfortunately jisung didn't get to the cafe in time. jiae texted him when she got home, promising that they'd hang out another day.

she'd tried to stay up and wait for him, but fell asleep while watching gilmore girls on the couch. she didn't wake up to the episode end credits or the sound of the door unlocking, but the gentle feeling of someone's hand in her hair.

"can you walk?" he'd asked her in a soft voice, and jiae hummed sleepily in response before peeking an eye open to see a smiling face. the only face she wanted to see.

she remembered hugging him and dozing off in her arms, but jiae wasn't sure if hyuck had helped her walk to bed or carried her. she blushed against the pillow as she imagined the latter.

quietly, carefully, jiae intertwined her fingers with haechan's limp ones. she didn't squeeze them, only held their clasped hands close to her chest, letting his knuckles graze softly against her lips.

his body suddenly shook with a deep, rumbling chuckle, and jiae felt herself still. waiting a few seconds, she whispered, "did i wake you?"

haechan responded by placing a gentle kiss against jiae's bare shoulder. her tanktop straps were thin enough that the top half of her back was exposed, but she didn't mind.

her face glowed red at the feeling of his lips against her skin, and jiae was embarrassed to turn around and show her blush. hyuck tightened his grasp on her, pulling jiae into him and resting his cheek against the shoulder he'd just kissed.

"you're warm," he mused, his voice deep with sleep. it reminded jiae of the time when she and hyeyeong called him one night, and she'd barely recognized his real voice over the phone. she was used to it now, but smiled fondly at the memory.

in response, jiae hugged hyuck's arms to her chest, tracing lazy doodles against his forearm with her finger as he hummed. "how was your flight? did you enjoy the tour?"

the blankets ruffled as haechan moved, tangling his legs with jiae's. "mhm," he replied sleepily. "long, but fun. always fun." he paused for a short moment. "i missed you so much."

jiae turned at that, facing him clearly for the first time in months. haechan moved his arms so that they were clasped behind her back, his eyes closed. they slowly opened when jiae brought her hands to cup his cheeks, and she internally melted into the chocolate of his irises.

"i did, too." she said, and placed a shy kiss on his lips. it was quick, barely a skim, but she watched as pink dusted the skin beneath her hands. "i missed you a lot. too much."

hyuck subconsciously leaned into her touch and jiae stroked a thumb over his skin. it still felt a bit surreal, waking up in bed next to her idol. her boyfriend. someone she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. the realization was almost too much, but jiae kissed the top of haechan's nose instead of dwell. they were together now, that's what mattered.

"i love you," jiae said, her words so soft that she wasn't sure if he heard her or not.

by the way donghyuck's fingers trailed up and down her back, and by the slow quirk of his lip, he did. just as quietly, he said back, "i love you, too."
