as much as he tried not to, chenle was having a great time.

he felt guilty for blowing soyi off, since he knew how difficult it was for her to initiate things like that, but he'd already promised elly they'd hang out, and he wasn't about to go back on his word.

"hey, no fair!" the girl screamed after chenle shot her in the side, cackling maniacally as he ran. she'd called a timeout to adjust her vest, and chenle for bored after a few seconds of waiting.

he could hear her shooting as she ran after him, but he took a few quick turns to hide from her sight. even in the dark, their vests glowed—chenle's light blue and elly's bright purple.

chenle held his breath as she girl continued moving forward, passing him and his hiding spot. he heard her huff, and before she could turn to search for him, chenle raised his gun and shot her in the back.

again, she gasped when her vest buzzed and whipped around to see the idol already running away, his laughter following him.

elly wouldn't call herself a competitive person, but watching him run away, unable to shoot back, caused a determined smile to inch slowly across her face. she twisted around the corner, keeping her footsteps light as she moved across the set.

it took a few moments, but she finally spotted the light blue of his vest heaving with his breath. he was far, but still in range, and waiting for her to appear on his right. kneeling, elly took aim from the left and didn't waste a second before shooting.

chenle looked surprised when his vest buzzed, his features just slightly visible in the now red light. he jumped up to move as his vest regenerated, and elly shot again from her hiding spot.

they were neck and neck by the time their session was nearing its end. the two were hiding from each other, trying to lure the other out without getting shot. it was chenle who took the risk, taking large steps as he seemed the girl out.

he spotted her right before she did, and took aim. when elly saw him, she raised her gun, but it was too late.

the session was over, and chenle won.

he leaned back as he shouted in victory, the lights slowly coming back on. despite her loss, elly stood tall with a bright smile. "congrats, lele!"

chenle cringed a bit at the nickname, but ignored it as he approached her. "you were a worthy opponent. i had fun!"

they faced each other now, and chenle mindlessly stepped closer so he could help her out of her vest, when elly's lips suddenly touched his.

chenle jumped back, and the two stared at each other with wide eyes. he watched as the color slowly drained from the girl's face as she opened her mouth to stammer for something to say.

"i'm not interested." chenle deadpanned before she had the chance.

elly bit her bottom lip hard as she took an awkward step back. "sorry, i thought you... sorry. i think i just got caught up in the moment."

chenle nodded once, but didn't say anything else. he wasn't going to tell her it was fine, because it wasn't. still, he had the decency not to embarrass her any further. he realized that the leaning in may have given her the wrong impression, but he had more manners than to kiss someone without warning.

"we should head back."

some of elly's hair shifted from her ponytail as she frantically nodded her head. "yeah, for sure. early flight and all."

he took her vest, and the two left the building with a few more inches between them then when they arrived.
