Chapter 8 (Edited)
As you sit by the windows, Luke stands behind you looking at you in shock. A few more moments of Silence pass before Luke decides to speak again.
"Well, if you are going to sit by the windows, you might as well finish eating while you're at it." Luke walks away and swiftly returns carrying the bowl of fruit that you had abandoned on the table. He hands it to you along with a fork before returning to his position standing next to you. You raise your eyebrows at him before taking a few more bites of the fruit that Luke gave you.
As you look out of the window at the lake, you get a feeling of sadness as you reminisce of times gone by. You used to go to similar lake with your friends back in America every weekend no matter the season. In the winter, when you went to the Lake, it would be frozen over, and you and your friends would ice skate on it. You take a deep sigh as a renewed feeling of emptiness weighs heavy in your chest. You quickly finish eating your fruits and hands a bowl back to Luke before looking back out the window. Luke recognizes the look in your eye as one that he often saw in his master whenever he caught him staring at the picture of his mother that sat on his desk.
He sighs deeply before putting a reassuring hand on your shoulder. Confused, you turn to look at him and he gives you a kind smile with a sympathetic look in his eyes. He looks to be deep in thought for finally he meets your eyes as though he's decided upon something. Quickly, she grabs your hand and pulls you up off of the chair before walking in the other direction at a quick Pace pulling you behind him. Puzzled, you allow Luke to lead you off while trying and figure out where you are heading. You don't have to puzzle over it for long though, because before long Luke stops in front of two glass doors that lead out into the gardens. You look at him and confusion once again as he takes out a key from his pocket and unlocks the doors, opening them.
Without saying a word, Luke tucks the key back into his pocket before leading you out into the garden and towards the cherry that you had been looking at through the window. As you approach it you notice that there is a Silver Bench sitting next to the shore of the lake underneath the shade of the cherry tree. Luke leads you over to it it letting you sit down upon it once you get there. He then releases your hand as you look out on to the lake in awe.
Too shocked for words, you stare at the gorgeous view in front of you, mouth hanging open like a Mary Poppins codfish. You hear Luke chuckle from behind you. You pay him no mind as you take in the fresh air of the garden. As you gaze upon the water, you feel something land softly upon your leg. Looking down, you see that one of the cherry blossom petals has delicately rested itself upon your thigh. Carefully, you pick up the delicate pink petal, softly rubbing it between your fingers.
You sigh and content has you are surrounded by the sounds of the outdoors. The light sound as the water gently laps at the shore, the birds calling to each other from the trees, even the buzzing of the bees as they fly from one flower to the next. You stand up from the silver bench and look at Luke carefully, seeing if he would object. Seeing no movement from Luke, you walk over to the Shoreline of the lake, letting your feet sink into the soft, warm sand. You slowly continue forward until the tips of your toes are lightly touching the water. The lake feels cold against your feet as you continue in until you are up to your knees in the cool water. You look behind you to see Luke looking at you with an amused expression as you stand in the cold water.
You beckon Luke over and with a sigh he obeys. Once he is standing at the edge of the shoreline, you Rush towards him, jogging through the water, and splash him. He stares at you in shock as you giggle maniacally at his now soaking wet form. With a huff, he begrudgingly removes his tail coat, vest, gloves, and tie, resting them on the silver Bench. He then walks back over to where are you are standing knee deep in the water, and her moves his shoes and socks before rolling up his pant legs and running into the water after you.
You smirk as you watch him before turning around and diving into the cool clear water of the lake. Luke gives Chase and soon enough you and the butler are engaged in an epic water fight. You stay in the water for what feels like hours but was probably only around 30 minutes before you finally crawl out of the lake and lay down on the warm sand allowing the sun to dry off your, now drenched, clothes. You sigh and content as the Rays of sun warm your body, ridding you of the Chill from the cool water.
After a while, look stands up off of the ground and lets you know that he will be going back inside of the house to get a dry change of clothes for the both of you. You hum in acknowledgement keeping your eyes closed. soon enough, you hear Luke's footsteps receding into the distance. You wait for a moment, after you no longer hear his footsteps, before opening your eyes and standing up off of the ground. Looking around you, you did not see a living being inside. Sighing in relief, you check behind you once more before running in the opposite direction of the mansion.
You run through the forest that boarders the lake, letting your feet guide you as you dodge in between the trees, not daring to look behind you and see if you were pursued. You continued to run jumping over logs and roots and ducking under the larger branches. At some point, you realized that your legs felt like they were on fire and you were having trouble breathing. Begrudgingly, you allowed yourself to slow down to a walk to catch your breath. You stand still, bending over to rest your hands on your knees, you take deep breaths of the fresh forest air. Looking down, you notice that while you were running, you had cut your bare feet on the thorns and rocks on the forest floor, but did not notice because of your adrenaline from running. You sigh as you feel the adrenaline rush wear off and your feet begin to sting. You take a step forward, wincing as your cuts continue to sting consistently. You huff in annoyance as you start to walk cautiously, only stepping on smooth rocks, grass and the occasional clump of moss.
As you continue through the forest, walking instead of running now, you look up and through the thick canopy, you can barley make out the sun above you. Realizing that it is midday, your stomach grumbles loudly, as if to remind you that you have been running for a few hours straight. You groan, holding your stomach as you continue to walk through the forest.
Sometime later, you see a beam of sunlight reflecting off of something in the distance, past the trees. Excitement bubbles through your veins, causing you to run through the trees, paying no mind to the stinging from the cuts on your feet. As you run, the trees grown few and far between until there are none left. You pause for a moment to look at your surroundings, smiling when you see a familiar beach in the distance. You run through the grass until your feet hit the soft sand, sinking into it slightly as you run.
Before long you reach the Yuigahama Beach on the out skirts of Kamakura, Japan. You sigh in relief as Kamakura is only an hours drive away from Tokyo. You slow yourself to slow to a walk as you reach the main portion of the beach. Looking around you, there are people sunbathing on towels, and kids playing in the sand. And at least a dozen people, men and female alike, surfing on the waves in the Sagami Bay. You continue walking until you reach a path leading up to the main town. You sigh in content as your feet hit the smooth pavement. Following the path you soon reach the main town. You continue walking down the street, as you do you notice a bus stop. Your eyes light up with hope as you walk towards it, deciding to simply buy a ticket back to Tokyo.
However, as you walk up to the line, and look at the ticket prices, you groan when you realize that you don't have any money. Turning around, your shoulders slump in defeat. You continue to walk down the street, being carefully to watch out for shards of glass or other hazards that could cause more harm to your bare feet. As you walk, you continue to look around, trying to figure out your next course of action. You don't have any money, so that crosses out taking the bus, a taxi, or even the train back to Tokyo.
As you pass by the police station, you momentarily consider going inside to report Yuri. You quickly disregard that thought as you remember that you have no way of proving who you are and the whole story was to elaborate for anyone to believe. Besides, it wasn't like he had beat you or mistreated you, he just kidnapped you off of the streets. You shake your head, clearing your mind of the thoughts, deciding to deal with the whole "Yuri's fiancé" issue once you are home.
Suddenly, you are torn out of your thoughts by your stomach grumbling rather loudly at you. You sigh, remembering that all you had to eat that day was the fruit and toast this morning. Looking around you, you notice that a block ahead there is a large building that appears to be a mall. Without hesitating, you walk towards it, crossing the street and quickly stepping inside. As you look around, however, your hopes are quickly dashed when you realize that you are in the "high end" mall. You groan to yourself, and turn around, about to leave, when a store front on the second story catches your eye.
Hitachiin Fashion
Your eyes grow wide as a smile makes it's way onto your face. You quickly head towards the stairs, taking them two at a time, ignoring the weird stares that you are receiving from both your lack of foot wear and your disheveled appearance. As you reach the top, you fast walk over to the store, taking a deep breath before entering. A light bell chime alerts the employees of your presence in the almost empty store.
"Hello! Welcome to the Hit-" the employee stones half way through her sentence as she looks at your outfit, judging you from head to toe. A look of disgust crosses her face as she looks back at your face, taking a moment to look at your messy hair, before continuing. "I'm sorry but if you aren't wearing any shoes, we can't serve you." She says as she smiles at you, the sweetness in her grin clearly fake. You resist the urge to roll your eyes at her behavior before speaking.
"Actually, I'm not here to buy anything, I just need to borrow your phone." A look of horror flickers across her face but disappears as quickly as it came. Instead, a smirk makes its way onto her face as she responds, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Well, I'm sorry, but if you aren't here to buy anything, i'm going to have to ask you to leave. Why don't you just ask another commoner like you to borrow their phone?" This time, you actually do roll your eyes at her as you walk around her body and toward the counter. Her eyebrows hop in surprise before she turns to follow you. "Come back over here! If you go any farther, I'm calling security!" She threatens, causing you to halt and turn to face her.
"Oh really? On what charges?" You ask, crossing your arms over your chest, much like she did except the sassiness in your tone and posture were evident. "Last time I checked, it's not a crime to request to use a phone. Nor is it illegal to not buy anything in a store. There is such a thing as browsing you know." The employee's smirk gradually falls off of her face as you speak in an authoritative tone. "Now, if you really would like me to leave that urgently, I would suggest that you stop with your own little pity party because you think that I'm not good enough to be in the same room as you and hand me your phone so that I can make a call." You were beyond enraged at the moment. You were done with her bs and you just wanted to go home. She stares at you in shock as the other shoppers start to whisper to each other. She looks around her before clearing her throat and unlocking her phone, handing it to you. You take the phone a start to scroll through her contacts as she speaks up.
"Who is it that you need to call so desperately anyways? I'm sure that if it is that important you would have there number memorized or something." She retorts as you continue scrolling through her phone. You ignore her contact for a moment as you continue to search.
'She's got to have his number, I mean, he's practically her boss,' you think to yourself before you thumb hovers above a contact name, the one you were searching for.
Kaoru Hitachiin
Your thumb hovers above the contact hesitantly before clicking the icon, causing it to fill the screen as the phone starts to ring. You place it next to your ear, waiting and hoping for him to pick up as you watch the woman in front of you. To say that she was ticked off would be an understatement. You can almost see the steam coming out of her ears in rage as she taps her foot in irritation. She sighs deeply before looking at you with a new confidence.
"If you are calling someone on my contacts then you need to have the call on speaker so I know that you aren't being indecent." She tilts her nose into the air, trying to look like she's the boss but ending up looking even snobbier. You roll your eyes in exasperation, sighing in annoyance as you sassily move the phone away from your ear in long, exaggerated movements and press the speaker button. The sound of ringing fills the room as the small crowd that had formed starts to move away, though it is obvious that they are still listening, wondering who you are calling. As the phone continuously rings, you begin to grow anxious, worried that it will go to voicemail.
'You better pick up you idiot,"' you think to yourself, glancing at the woman who is staring intensely at the phone. Just as you think that the phone is going to voicemail, however, you hear the phone click, as your call is answered.
"Hello, this is Kaoru Hitachiin speaking, may I help you?" You hear his voice come over the line, sounding more profesional than you are used to. You clear your head of such thoughts before you begin to speak.
"Hey Kaoru, it'-" You start to say before Rudy being cut of by the lady.
"You brat! You just wanted to talk to him and try to woo him! You are not getting away with this! SECURITY!" She screams, causing you to go into panic mode as Kaoru speaks up.
"Excuse me? Who is this? What's going on?" You frantically switch the phone off of speaker and put it against your ear as you start to back out of the store, noticing the security guards coming towards you.
"Kaoru, it's (Y/n) and I really need your help." You say, trying to keep your words coherent as you look around for an escape route, seeing as you are on the second floor. You can hear the woman screaming from behind you, calling you a thief and a felon among other, more unpleasant names.
"(Y/N)?!?! Oh my god are you okay?! What happened?! Everyone has been looking for you! Do you know where you are?!" He questions rapidly, sounding panicked, fueling your adrenaline. Turning around, you locate your only way of escape, the railing. You will have to jump. Rushing towards it, you hurriedly answer Kaoru's questions.
"I'm okay for now but I really need a ride, like, now. I'm at the rich people mall in Kamakura and the manager of your store thinks that I'm a female dog and wants to kill me!" You reach the railing and look over, spotting a kiosk below you.
"Kamakura Mall? I'm really close to there, hang on I'll be there soon." He says before hanging up. You put the phone on the ground, so as not to be charged for stealing it, and back up to get a running start. You close your eyes and take a deep breath, as you exhale, you open your eyes. You You block out all of the sounds around you as you focus on the task at hand. You run towards the railing, the sound of your blood pumping fills your ears, your feet hitting the cold tile as you run. As your hands grasp the rail, launching your body over it, you whisper to yourself and whomever was watching over you.
"Please hurry Kaoru....."
As you fall from the second story, you will yourself not to scream or panic and to concentrate on your landing. While the kiosk would cushion your fall, your legs would still break if they took the impact alone. Using your hands to catch yourself would result in your arms and wrists suffering. If you didn't land just right, your neck could also snap from the sudden stop, killing you. You cringe at the thought, before forcing your body to relax, letting you limbs go limp but still keeping them close to your torso.
A sickening crack echos through the mall as you resist the urge to cry out. You feel a searing pain shoot through your side, alerting you that you broke one or more ribs. Aside from that, your right arm is bent at an unnatural angle, dislocated and possibly broken as well. You take a deep breath, forcing the tears back as you stand up, gently cradling your right arm, so as to not hurt it more, and you rush towards the doors. You hear the shouts of the security guards behind you as you run. You hear their pounding footsteps as the hurry down the stairs after you. Your fear skyrockets at the thought of being caught. The woman obviously is the more believable person in this scenario, so she would win the argument and you would probably end up in jail for false sentences. Right as you are about to reach the glass doors, you see a black limo pull up with a familiar red head running out of it and into the mall.
"(Y/n)!" He cries out, his eyes widening as he sees your arm, causing him to run towards you even faster before wrapping his arms around you protectively. "What the hell do you think you're doing?!" He yells at the guards as if they skid to a stop before him. Hesitantly, one of the guards replies.
"Well, sir, with all due respect, we're going to have to ask you to let the girl go so we can take her into custody." In response to his remark, however, Kaoru only tightens his hold on you.
"Sorry, but I can't let you do that. If you have a problem with that, bring it up with my mother, or better yet, Mr. Suoh, the one paying you." Kaoru harshly states while standing up with you still in his arms. He turns around and starts to walk to the glass doors. You glance behind you once more at the Gardens before turning your attention to carry as you walk out of the mall and towards the limo. As you gaze at Kaoru's face, he appears to be deep in thought about something. Whatever it is, however, it isn't good. His eyebrows are scrunched together frustration and concentration and his eyes hold an emotion that you could not place. As you stare at his face, you notice that his hazel brown eyes have turned to meet your gaze. Taken aback by his sudden movement, You quickly avert your eyes and instead stare at the path as you walk along. You hear Kaoru chuckling from above you, and when you turned back to look at his face once more, you notice that his eyes are playful and hold laughter in them.
"What are you laughing at?" You ask him, crossing your arms as best you can with an injured shoulder. He raises one eyebrow at your antics and replies, shaking his head.
"You." You feel your face heat up at the smile that he gives you and you look away as you reach the car. The driver opens the door and Kaoru gently sets you inside before sliding in onto the seat next to you. As soon as the door closes and the dividing window is up however, the playful mood that had occupied the both of you changes to a much darker a serious tone. "Now tell me, (y/n), where exactly have you been and how did this happen?" Kaoru gestures at your injured arm before meeting your gaze expectantly.
"It's a long story," you tell him, while resting your head on his shoulder. He chuckles at you once more before replying.
"We have time."
