10. Victor

OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH!!!!! What's going to happen???!!!! I think my clever readers already know, don't you? Or do you? Well?? Is he going to survive? Is he? Are they both going to? Haha - I might kill them both, just for fun. But that wouldn't be much of a story, would it? Enjoy, peeps!

"Leia!" I hold her head in my hands - this girl who has saved me twice during this Hunger Games. The girl who should be the victor of the 49th Hunger Games.

"No, Ceasar." She pushes me backwards with a smile. "You can win now."

"You're going to make it! I'll nurse you back to health... and then.. and then I'll kill myself!" I try to move her but she whimpers and then really shoves me back with all her might.

"Stop it, Ceasar! I never thought you would win the Hunger Games, but you will."

Tears stream down my face, wrecking my makeup, but who cares? (Yes, i do carry makeup with me.)

"Do you want to know the real reason why I saved you?" She smiles, then frowns with the effort.

"Why?" I ask. "You were so stand-offish at first."

"I know. I was stupid, and conceited and stuck up. But... the reason... is because..." I lean close to hear her words, because her voice has dropped to a whisper, barely audible. There's no way the Capitol audience can hear it. I half expect a microphone to come out and poke me in the back, wanting to get in on the action too.

"I love you too." She says, then smiles ever so slightly.

"What?" I brush her cheek lightly, staring into her eyes. "I love you. And if I wasn't dying, then we could be together. Forever." She uses the last of her strength to lean on her elbows, then kisses me.

It's the first kiss I've ever had. And I don't want the capitol audience to see it. I pull down the branch, covered with leaves, to hide us, but I know that it will only be temporary. The cameras are probably already positioned around us now, getting in on the action.

After what feels like hours, she suddenly gasps, and starts to fall down again. I catch her, and then put her down gently, admiring her beautiful face as her eyes close. I squeeze her hand and the cannon fires.

I step back as the hovercraft descends, and the voice of our announcer - Claudius Templesmith - booms out: "Congratulations to Ceaser Flickerman! Victor of the 49th Annual Hunger Games!"
