Chapter Two || Roommates
William made his way up the stairs and to his room. He looked at every door he passed. Until he found the right one. "137..." He said to himself as he checked the doors around him, ensuring he was at the right one before entering.
He looked around after putting his bags down. There were already some boxes on the bed across the room. His roommate must've already settled in. William opened his bags and started unpacking his own things.
He was just getting used to the room when suddenly a giant wolf entered. William jumped back, surprised by what he saw. He stared at the wolf briefly before it turned into a human.
"Sorry mate, I didn't mean to scare you there." The stranger laughed. "What the - How did you - What are you?" William stuttered. The man looked at him dumbfounded.
"Have you never seen a wolf before?" The stranger looked at William like he was stupid and laughed a little.
William looked back at him, scratching the back of his neck. "I- No. I haven't. I'm not exactly from... here." The stranger leaned in a bit. "Where are you from, then?" He asked with genuine interest.
"Selachi..." William said back hesitantly, He wasn't sure if people even knew where that was. "The sea realm?" The stranger asked, curious.
William nodded. The stranger thought for a second, "So you're basically a fish dude?" He asked. William looked up at him offended. "Excuse me?"
"You're part fish, right?" the stranger shrugged. Unaware that he sounded rude.
"Yeah, and you're a wolf, but you don't hear me calling you a "dog dude" now, do you?" William said back, irritated. What the hell is wrong with this guy?
He let out a laugh. "I didn't think that would offend you. I was genuinely just curious. Sorry, mate. It won't happen again. " He apologized
William let out a breath and turned back to unpacking.
"It's fine..." Suddenly, William felt a hand on his back. "Are you sure you're good, mate? A wolf can sense others emotions," The stranger asked.
William nodded, "I'm fine... I'm just a bit nervous, you know.." He said, sitting down on his bed.
"If you need help with anything or just need to talk, I'm right here, okay?" The stranger reassured him. "Thanks -"
William felt slightly better. This whole situation wasn't easy. Even though he was excited to start at this school. He was also really nervous. He has never been away from home for this long.
But this guy already seemed like a good person, so having him as a roommate wouldn't be that bad. That is until someone else walked in...
"We'll aren't I lucky two handsome guys as roommates." A voice came from the door. Both of them looked at where the sound was coming from and found a dragonlord, both looking at them with a smug look on his face.
William stared at them, too stunned to speak. "So who is this fine man?" The Dragonoid asked, making eye contact with William. He just sat there staring at the man, as his face turned bright red at the comment.
"I- uhm- William." He stuttered. "I'm Silvae," the wolf boy chimed in. "I'm Zodes," the Dragonoid introduced himself as well. "So what are you guys? Succubi?" Zodes grinned.
William lets out an awkward laugh. He leans over to Silvae, whispering: "I don't know what that is -"
"Succubi are lust demons known to be very handsome and very skilled in bed," Silvae winked at William. "oh- well, I-" He stuttered, turning even redder than thought possible.
"I'm joking, dude, even though I wouldn't be surprised if you two were." Zodes laughed. "I'm a wolf shifter." Suddenly, Silvae turned back into the same wolf as before.
William cleared his throat. "I'm.. a shark... I would show you, but I'd fall. Also, I'm not really used to having legs, so I'll keep them for now..." He explained.
"That's cool, bro." Zodes walked up to Silvae and scratched his ear."You're very fluffy." He smirked.
William let out an awkward laugh. Maybe this wouldn't be so easy after all. But then again, first impressions aren't everything. He got up from his bed.
"Right- this is getting a bit much for me. You guys have fun - I'm gonna go check out the pool..." William said as he made his way to the door. They both nod as Williams disappeared into the hallway.
He made his way back to the first floor. It took some time to find the pool, but after asking a few people and following a lot of signs, he eventually found it
It wasn't at all what he was expecting. Or what he was used to. For once, the pool was inside. A concept that was still odd to him. But he was also very excited to be there.
He walked around, amazed at all the people already in the water. There were all sorts of people in the pool. He had never seen these many different sea creatures in his life. Not in one place, at least.
"Pretty cool, right?" Suddenly, William felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned around and was met with a man. He was slightly taller than William, smiling brightly at him.
"You're here for the swim team?" He asked. William nodded. "Are you just here to look around? Or do you plan to join?" He let go of William's shoulder and stood beside him.
"Join, I think," William said back, suddenly feeling nervous. The man let out a laugh, "You, think?" He crossed his arms. "Well, you could join if you wanted too, we could always use more members." He said.
He turned to William, " but if you don't mind me asking... where are you from?"
"Selachi-," william said back. "Ah- perfect." The man let out a breath. "That means you're.." he waited for Willaim to finish his sentence.
"I'm a shark. Tiger shark..." he said back quietly. He tried his best to look at the person talking to him, but he was too busy staring at all the people in the pool in front of him.
The man followed his gaze. "It would've been nicer if we had more variety on the team.." he sighed. "But we can always use more sharks." He laughed.
This caught William's attention. "More?" He had been looking at the pool long enough by now to have seen everyone. But he hadn't seen a shark. Not in the water, at least. He turned to look the man in his eyes, and he laughed and introduced himself to William.
"My name is Bruce, I'm also a shark. A white shark. Oh, and also, I'm the captain of the swim team." He said proudly, holding out his hand.
William took it. "I'm William..." he smiled. "Well... William. It would be great if you were to join the team." He said honestly. "I want to." Willaim laughed.
Bruce crossed his arms again, turning towards the water. "Sometime this week, you can sign up for the team. I'll make sure we save you a spot." He explained.
William couldn't suppress the smile, forming on his face. "I do have to warn you - it'll be a little weird at first." William looked up confused. "Or have you swam in fresh water before?" He asked.
That's when he noticed. People were using different forms to swim in. Some just use their tails, others using their legs. Choosing whichever they preferred.
But William wouldn't have that choice.
He couldn't exactly control his shifting. Salt water made him turn, but whenever that happened, he couldn't turn back by himself. Ge had to wait until he was dry again.
Except for yesterday, he somehow found a way to turn on command. But that might've had something to do with wanting to go to the school as soon as possible. So that was mostly subconscious.
But he couldn't do it himself. He's tried many times but without luck. So, without salt water, he wouldn't be able to shift. And without shifting... he wouldn't be able to swim.
It sounded incredibly stupid. He didn't want to admit it to anyone, but without his tail, he didn't know how to swim. Could you imagine a fish not knowing how to swim? But unfortunately, that was the case.
"You okay?" Bruce waved his hand in front of William, pulling him out of his thoughts. "Huh, yeah, uhm-" he started. "I'll definitely sign up -" he changed the subject. He took a step away from the pool. "Alright..?" Bruce said, a little confused.
"Okay, bye then." William said before turning around and making his way out to the hall. "Bye?" He heard Bruce say.
This was bad. This was really bad. His whole life, he dreamed of being in this team, and now he won't be able to join unless he either learns how to shift on command or learns how to swim all over again.
Both options sounded like they were going to be difficult. But if he wanted to join the swim team, he had to choose one of them.
