Chapter Fifteen-Secrets and Lies
"One thing Norel, and you obviously did it wrong, leaving me to do something insane, and you remember the last time you disobeyed? Hmmm? Do you?"
The skinny guy trotted down the stairs in anger and confusion.
"Sir, I was just making sure the prisoner-"
"What prisoner is allowed out of their cell?! Norel, answer me!"
"was able to be tortured, otherwise we wouldn't be able to even reach him. Then she knocked on the door."
Norel then moved out of the way, revealing Charlotte. My mouth then felt like dropping, as it was total bullcrap. You don't teach someone something, then out of the blue, hand them over to another person.
"Oh! She's here! The bait is here! Mr. Du-shea will be pleased to hear that the bait is here!"
The tall guy then brought his hands behind his back, happily walking down the stairs, clearly having a mood swing. "Wait, you were pissed right? Why are you happy now, all of a sudden?"
I questioned as he took a five stair jump to finish off his flight of stairs.
"Because that girl is my trip out of this hunk of crap." He gestured at the entire circus. "She will make me rich. Dirty rich. Leaving these fair people to their own lives, giving them freedom."
The tall guy shuffled over to Charlotte, grabbed a noose and tightened it around Charlotte's wrists, making her shrug in disappointment. I straightened to make it look like I was fine with this. I wasn't though.
Why would anyone like this too? Am I the only one who cares about the world and the people in it. Charlotte and the tall guy went up the stairs, out the door, a car door opened and closed, and the car drove away.
"Well that was close, we could've died!"
I slapped Norel across the head. I didn't care if he was superhuman, he was an ass hole for sacrificing Charlotte to that tall guy. "Close? Close?! The only thing we're close to is me also becoming a murderer! She didn't deserve to be thrown away like that! She wasn't bait either!"
Norel looked confused. He clearly never made any friends because that isn't what friends do. "She was bait because a fellow killer of Mr. Tall called her that. Unless you want him to order me to kill you, you shouldn't say that. That's just pushing me to kill you by heart!"
I shrugged, knowing there was no convincing him that she wasn't "bait". There could be a way to get her back, though.
"Maybe she's bait, but she could be won back."
I smiled as Norel gripped his gun tighter. "We are not winning her back. She's not only his way back, but like he said, ours. I'm not letting you kill us and have the rest of us go into further labour!"
Norel clearly was angry at me. What he did before, I'd rather not happen to me also. "What if he means to kill everyone, if his plan goes as he wants?"
"Well, that kinda sounds like him. Though he doesn't lie."
"Really? Are you that blind-sighted? A murderer? Who doesn't lie and still got away? That is impossible. The only way of a murderer to escape the chains of Shadow Knights is to frame, lie, murder other investigators. They are not friends, and they clearly don't want any friends. You never heard of a murderer's life outside of crime and death tolls either."
"I guess Steward's right. Ok Steward, what's your plan."
