FIVE
After the evening at lunch, nothing much happened. So now it was the next morning with everyone back in the courtroom. Annalise was questioning a woman with blonde hair that stopped and curled by her jaw. "Mrs. Taylor. You claim that your best friend Marjorie spoke to you about divorcing Max nearly a year ago."
She stood front and center to the stand staring the woman in the eyes as she spoke in a blank tone. "Yes." Mrs. Taylor nodded at a fast pace raising her brows as a smile reached her cheeks. Annalise turned going to walk back to the table where Bonnie sat all while speaking aloud. "Even though you wrote the following toast at their anniversary party about two months ago."
She picked up folder reading the words to everyone in the room, "'I haven't seen two people more in love since the captain and Maria performed their first dance in front of the Von Trapp children.'"
Max sat back smirking at the blonde-haired woman while Annalise dropped the folder with an almost cocky look grazing her features. "Doesn't sound like a couple about to divorce to me." Mrs. Taylor gulped while her eyes flicked to Prosecutor Blair letting a nervous feeling overcome her.
Michaela leaned over to Connor's ear keeping her eyes set on Annalise. "How in the hell do you find this crap?" Connor wore his usual charming smirk not sparing a glance at the woman. "You'll never know."
Today's trial was over with Annalise bringing the interns and associates to her home once more. "The Alibis next. Max claims he was out for a walk when the murder occurred, so we need a neighbor who saw him." The students sat sprawled out on the armchairs and couch watching as Annalise paced around the room with a folder in hand.
Behind her, Frank came out of her office gaining her attention as he walked to them. "Frank... take who you need." Frank's eyes studied all of the students and landed on two in particular. "You two, Prom Queen and Doucheface." His finger pointed in between Michaela, whose face scrunched with distaste, and Asher who's head only turned to the bearded man.
"Come with me." On their way out of the house, Frank stopped giving a small subtle wink to Annora who wasn't the only one to see.
Laurel who also saw the interaction leaned forward towards the girl. "Are you guys, like, together?" As her head snapped in her direction the curls which hung around her face shook making her push it from her eyesight. "Um, no, that, that's repulsive." She brought her head back down to the paper trying to block out the stare of the three other interns in the room.
In the courtroom, Annalise stood questioning the man, Bill. "It was around 8:30 when I took out the trash that night. Right after our nightly family dinner." Asher glanced to his right at Wes which caused him to look at him confused. "And what did you see while you were outside?"
Bill made gestures with his hands as he answered her question. "A man walking on the other side of the street. She stood still nodding her head as she asked yet another question. "And did you recognize this man?" He hesitated on his words, jumbling them up. "Well, it was very dark that night, but I think it's very possible that it was my neighbor, Mr. St. Vincent." Bill turned his head to look at the man as he ended his words.
When everyone was out of the courtroom for a commission, the six students stood in the hallway when Annalise, Frank, and Bonnie walked up to them, Annalise speaking. "So the first witness to take the stand will be Max's daughter. I need someone to write up the prep questions." Laurel pushed herself between Connor and Annora. "I'll do it."
Annalise pursed her lips at the young girl before shaking her head. "Frank suggested Annora for this and I thought it'd be fine. Everyone okay with that?" She gave no room to answer as Laurel was just about to speak. "Good." Annalise looked towards her daughter with a small smile, she was hoping this would prove herself to the students who thought she was picked blood wise.
"Have them on my desk by midnight." She walked away from the students just as Michaela laughed at the look plastered on Laurel's face. Laurel looked towards the youngest Keating almost glaring at her as she walked on.
Annora looked up at Frank who only rubbed his hands together glancing away from her. Annora stepped past him when Wes came beside her. "I think Laurel is jealous of you and Frank." Her head shot up, her eyes wide at his statement.
"Frank and I? There is nothing between us, okay, maybe I've had a tiny crush on him for the past four years..." Wes smirked at her though his heart hurt a bit at her words as he thought she would deny the allegations of romantic interest. "I think he could like you back. I mean, I don't know the guy too well or at all, but... What's stopping you from going for him?"
Annora sighed shrugging her shoulders a bit. "My step-dad. We're only friends and he gives him glares every time he's even next to me so just imagine if we date." Wes gave her a curt nod signaling he understood her reasoning.
"All is calm. All is bright." The car was parked outside of an empty gas station. Michaela and Laurel shivering in disgust in the back seat as they body laid in between them. Connor sat in the driver's seat with a scowl and psychotic look using his face.
It was then he faced Annora and began singing along with the music. "Round yon virgin mother and child." Wes was inside of the store getting the supplies they needed for that night.
He was taking a little while and Annora was beginning to wonder what the hold up was as if something happened inside. She laid her head on the car window drowning out Connor's murderous singing.
Annora was in her room finishing up her prep question when a knock sounded on her door. She answered with a simple, 'come in'. The door creaked as it opened revealing her mother still on her clothes from the day. "Sam was talking about Indian for the night are you okay with that?"
Her daughter rubbed her hand down her face putting on a light smile that was barely reaching her eyes, nodding her head. "What's going on, you seem stressed." Annalise sat on the edge of her bed moving her questions to the side. "I know there's a reason you chose me for your internship and it's not because I'm your daughter. But, everyone else thinks otherwise besides Wes and Connor."
Annora sighed bringing her knees to her chest laying her head upon them. "I feel like I'll constantly have to prove that I earned my spot to them and that I'll have to impress you because you're so good at what you do."
Her mother sighed bringing her hands into her own. "Don't ever feel like you have to prove something to them. If anything they should be proving something to you, why are they here? You don't have to impress me either because, honey, I'm already impressed."
She smiled at her before lightly slapping Annora's knee. "Look you're turning me into a softie. You're the only one I'll ever show this side to. So let's keep that our little secret." Annora took her hand lifting her pointer and pinky finger up while her middle and ring finger rested on her pointed thumb.
She brought her hand to her lips kissing the three fingers before moving her hand towards Annalise. "I promise." The older of the two did the same with a meaningful smile on her face. The gesture was how they formed an unbreakable promise, it started when she was fifteen after a car crash while her mom was pregnant.
After the moment her mom left to room going back to hers. Annora finished up the last of the questions and made her way down the stairs. When she entered her mother's office she saw Bonnie there with Laurel who placed a file on her desk. "These are the prep questions for the daughter."
Bonnie looked at her with a small scowl at her disobedience. "Annalise requested Annora to do them." Laurel sighed pushing the filer closer. "I know, I just thought I already had some in mind and you can never go wrong with more questions."
When Bonnie didn't reply she began to speak again. "I thought about what you said, why, uh, why any of us are here." Laurel sat down in the chair behind her pushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "And I know now that Connor and Michaela were both top of their class, Asher, he's got his father, Annora, she's Annalise's daughter, and Wes, I don't know, but it seems like Annalise likes him. A lot."
She gave Bonnie a curt smile which she didn't return. "And me. It's, uh, Frank, right?" Bonnie furrowed her brows in confusion but let her continue. "I mean, he picked me, not Professor Keating."
Bonnie looked off to the side sighing. "I look nice, I know, but that's just my face. And you coming to me with your questions and personal drama is not gonna make me nicer. So rather than me telling you the answer to what you just asked, let me say that the time you are wasting worrying about Frank is time you should be using getting Annalise to actually learn your name."
Bonnie shot her a small glare dropping the pen she held in her hand onto the desk. "One other thing, Annora wasn't picked because she's Annalise's daughter. Annalise could've easily left her out of the internship but she sees something. How hard she works. Maybe if you all look past your jealousy, you'll see it too. I'm done talking you."
Laurel sighed, standing up while fixing her purse. She turned around making her way towards the office door.
As Annora saw that she hid under the desk in the sitting room. She waited a few moments after the front door shut to make sure she wouldn't come barging back in before she rose to her feet.
The young girl stepped into the office placing the file down. "I'm done, Bon. I'm going to bed now. I'll see you tomorrow." Bonnie took the file a real smile shining up at the girl. "Goodnight, Nora."
