He watched as she came in, her bag slipping to the floor as she turned away from him hesitant. He could hear her intake of breath, and his own constricted in his throat as she looked towards him finally. The words he wanted to scream fell dead at his lips, and he knew even if he could muster them, with the look in her eyes, it would all be in vain.
"Irene." He called, his voice cold. Here it was. What she was fearing. Yet he paused and she prayed to the gods above that things weren't going the way she had predicted. Her heart was pounding relentlessly, almost pitifully and she wanted to laugh, she wanted to scream. And yet the only sound that resonated was silence.
She could faintly hear the sound of her door barrel open, numerous footsteps and clicking of guns mixing, and through it all she kept her eyes trained to his. So he could see the consequences. But for once; the Jackson Wang, the warm persona she had loved was standing in front of her void. And it scared her, how easily, how quickly he seemed to have switched the love off. Almost as if it was never there to begin with. Finally She willed herself to look away, refusing to let the tears slip out. She heaved a breath, a painful one, begging her heart to pick itself up. But as it sat wailing in the wake of betrayal she allowed her mind to take over.
Her voice lost itself and so she waited for him. She waited for him to say the words because for once the Mafia Queen, stood defenceless. She had been warned about this. She had been told time and time again to never let those walls down. Her decision to love him, was solely hers, and as she stood their blaming herself, he stood there equally tormented.
It was the cough from behind her that broke the trance, and the life seemed to slip away from her eyes. They were numb, cold almost, and each second that he watched that transition was torture for him. Irene turned slightly assessing the room, and she let out a bitter chuckle, one that had his own eyes close. It stopped and she emotionlessly stared at him.
Waiting.
"Irene Bae, you are under arrest on suspicion of running an underground mafia, charges of murder and the selling of drugs, you have the right to remain silent and the call to a lawyer." He paused to look at her, and she stood unfazed. And it was her silence that was scaring him more.
He watched as she looked around the room for the second time, before taking a step closer to him. He waited for the venom to be spat but the resounding silence greeted him instead. She walked closer extending her hands in complete surrender. He could hear his team around him inhale in shock, and his own eyes watched her taken aback. Had he broken her to the point that she was no longer going to put up a fight? He desperately tried to search her eyes but he knew there was no point. She had shut him out completely.
He gulped, handcuffing her before signalling people to come forth to escort her. They grabbed her roughly, Irene hissing out. She looked towards them with a death threat at the edge of it. "I have two fully functioning legs, and I do know how to walk, keep your fucking hands off me if you want to keep them." From besides her Bambam laughed. "That's a big threat coming from someone who is in handcuffs." She smirked, kicking him roughly, a painful yelp sounding. "Just because my hands are tied doesn't mean I can't handle you, I have no idea what they teach you at the academy but there are other methods of fighting without using your fists, but I assume that you all got flying colours for the art of betrayal since you've done it so well." Jackson inhaled sharply, and Irene satisfied continued. "You best pray that these handcuffs are enough to restrain me, and that they are on for a long time, because the minute they're off I'll rip you to shreds. And once I'm done with you, I'll kill your traitor of leader." She snarled, watching as they all took a step away from her. She chuckled. "Pathetic." She growled out.
Jackson turned away, a tear falling out of his eye, followed by another until he could no longer stop them. He heard his team leave, the door closing behind him softly, as he sunk to the floor, his head in his hands.
Hours had gone by, and Irene now sat in an interrogation room, her stance lucid as she clasped her cuffed hands together. Her heart was aching and despite that she sat their calmly, ignoring the storm within her. She heard the door open, a woman around her age entering. She sighed, already feeling the energy vibrate of her. Irene watched as she stalked towards her, trying and failing to intimidate her by making it out like she was the prey. She chuckled to herself, boy was this woman in for a treat. If she thought she was a predator than Irene was the queen of them and she was the one to sit on the top of the food chain. She looked towards the girl, half amused as she hurled a file down, slamming her fist on top of it. Irene attempted to flatten out the smile that threatened to break out annoying the girl further. "I don't know what you think is so funny Ms Bae. You're sitting there with your hands cuffed, facing a charge worthy for life time imprisonment." Irene smirked slightly leaning back in her chair. "And I think you're getting your professions confused. You're a spy right? Not a lawyer or a judge, so I don't think your qualified to make statements such as the one you're making." The younger glared at her, as Irene looked to side. "Do you really think now is the time to be smug?" "What's you're name kid?" Irene smirked at the smoke coming out the girls ears, a name gritted out furiously. "Jennie Kim." Irene nodded, waiting slightly to see how she would play. "So arrested on suspicion of being a mafia, having a drug business and drugs related murders. I must say this is impressive." Irene looked at her. "Ms Kim have you ever heard of the phrase, innocent until proven guilty?"
She paused slightly, her eyes dancing up to the screen, that she knew he was standing behind. Jackson froze slightly. As she continued, "You've arrested me under suspicion meaning that you do not have enough evidence to convict me. This so called interrogation, which you're not doing a great job at is already failing-"
"What makes you think we don't have any evidence?" Jennie cut in rather abruptly, and Jackson knew she had given them away. "Let's see it then. I'm not sure who's been teaching you how to do interrogations kid but this is appalling. Do you want to maybe go run and find your senior?" Irene smirked slightly as she leaned back in her seat smugly watching rather amused as Jennie glared at her. A picture was thrown her way, in which a hazy looking photo was taken. "Weak." Irene stated. Jennie growled as Irene played with the photo in her hands. "This is your evidence?" She laughed. "Let me call my lawyer." "No what do you mean by that?" She remained silent. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN?!!" She shouted again, splashing her water all over Irene who sat composed. Irene stared up at her. "According to article 1 section 4 I have a right to remain silent, and am entitled to call for a lawyer, any breach of this is punishable by law. Careful kid I'm sure you don't want to be sued." "Was that a threat?" Irene shrugged her shoulders complacently. "Warning, threat, a promise, take it as you will." The two glared at each other until the door opened.
Jackson walked in handing a phone to Irene without a single glance and holding Jennie to escort her out. Irene watched their entangled hands, the ache already emitting more pain as she called Kai. It took moments for him to arrive but when he did, he hugged her tightly. She smiled at him. "Lay is worried." She chuckled softly. "He always is." "Let's get you out of here." Irene smirked. "No no no let me." He watched her confused as Jennie walked back in with Jackson and a senior she didn't recognise. Kai bowed to them slightly, Irene sitting and refusing to acknowledge their presence. "I see you took my advice in getting a babysitter." Jennie growled slightly as the evidence was placed back in front of them, the same procedure relayed through the senior. "Look Mr Lee Is it?" Irene cut in. "Your evidence is weak. You're telling me you're convicting me off a crime, based of a picture that is blurry? You said you've been investigating right? So surely you should have records of bank accounts to link me back to them? Surely you should have tapped my phone, gone through text messages? Emails? But no you're planning to keep locked up on suspicion?" "Ms Bae" Irene cut him off again. "Are you all seriously whack at your job!?" Jennie cut in smugly "Of course not Ms Bae. We've been observing you for months, hell we had our best man infiltrate on two sides." Irene stared at her confused, whilst Jackson stared at the table. "What the fuck do you mean?" "Oooo temper temper, seems like I've got one up you here Ms Bae. It's a shame you hadn't worked this out, but the masked man that followed you at your special nights was also Jackson. 'Batman' was what she called you. Right Jack?" Silence resonated. "It was all him. He had foiled all your plans from the start, he was the one person to fuck you like the whore that you are!" "Stay in your lane." Kai's voice boomed in defence. Irene's brain moved in a frenzy as she looked towards him. "Ryujin." She stuttered out, more like a question. She needed to know. Her voice not losing it's demeaning nature. Jennie noticed the way he remained silent, confused slightly by her leader's behaviour. "Of course he was there. Even if it wasn't his bullet to hit her, he was part of the team." Irene's eyes snapped back up to him. Her breathing becoming laboured as she laughed hysterically at her situation. Her love had killed her sister. God the irony was taunting her in the face. She lunged across the table, grabbing him roughly. "She was just a kid!" She shouted. "She was just a child and you killed her to get to me. She was barely an adult and you ripped her from this world FOR WHAT!!!" Kai wrapped his arms around her, pulling her to his chest in attempts to calm her. She shoved him back. "GET
OUT." She screamed at him. Her eyes wide as he looked up at her, his heart breaking. He pushed himself up and out. Letting his tears blur his vision.
Hours had morphed into more, but Irene now stood outside a free woman. They had no evidence and she was free, but as she stood outside she vowed, the next time She stepped in, it would be once everything was burnt to the ground. She looked towards Kai who moved to answer his ringing phone. He offered her smile, and a small caress to the arm before resuming his conversation. She stood outside alone, the harsh breeze brushing past her hair like wild flames. She smiled sadly; her eyes closing as she tears she tried to hide finally slipped through her long eyelashes. She breathed heavily, in attempts to calm the storm within her; her hands flying to her face to dry them away. She bit her lip tightly, begging, almost cursing for Kai to come back so she could go home.
She could faintly hear the sound of footsteps approach her, Irene turning to the sound, expecting Kai. Her breath caught in her throat, her eyes watering as she moved to walk away. He grabbed onto her, his eyes begging, and she scoffed wrenching her grasp out of his and shoving at his chest roughly. He moved a hand forward, Irene's shooting out and landing on his face roughly. The resounding slap held them in place as they stared at each other broken. "Irene." He spoke, his voice choked and voice unreasonably husky. "Babygirl-" she cut him off. "Don't." She spat out. "I can't believe you Jackson-" "it wasn't personal Irene." "It wasn't personal? It wasn't fucking personal? You did not just fucking say that! Which part wasn't personal Jackson? How you slept with multiple times? When you told me that you were in love with me? None of it was personal?! Of course it wasn't." She snapped. "How fucking dare you? What the hell did you get out of all this? Huh? Free sex? Is that what it was? Was your kiss ass whore of a subordinate not pleasuring you enough?" She stepped closer as he avoided her line of sight. "What was it Jackson? Was it all just a complete game to get me behind bars? All the love, the words, was it all a complete lie?" She chuckled bitterly. "I don't know why I am even asking. It may not have been personal for you Jackson but it sure as hell is for me now, and if you think I'm going to let you off simply because I love you then you're wrong. You're so fucking wrong because now at the expense of your loyalty my heart won't rest until their is a bullet where yours is. I fucking hate you. Do you hear that? Do you understand that? I hate you so much Jackson and I never ever want to see you anywhere near me until I decide that it is time for your judgement. You took my sister away from me, you sat there with me the whole night comforting me, loving me, tell me was your conscious eating away at you then!? Was it still not personal then?!" She closed her eyes, taking a step back, her body being tired out of sheer exhaustion mentally. "Understand this Jackson. I am not the villain in this story. Stop treating me like I am. Because it won't change the truth." She passed his a look, another bitter chuckle escaping the confides of her throat before it turned into a sob. She turned around. Lay and Kai now watching her carefully. They walked over to her, pulling her gently along with them, protecting her from the cold hand that the world had dealt her once again.
