He sat in front of his computer, his hands holding his head as he ignored the continuous knocking at his door. He was adamant to stay oblivious to reality for as long as humanly possibly but he knew that it would only be a split second; the same amount of time it takes for one to blink. He wishes he could hit pause just a moment; he wished he could hit rewind and just replay all of their moments on repeat because it was that feeling that gave him a moment of peace.
It was her, that held the key to his happiness. And right now he was in the process of telling her to leave and change the locks to her own. It was evil; the cruelest form of torture and he could do nothing but allow it. He could do nothing but let the the tides of fate ripple in. This was their story; this is exactly how it was supposed to be penned down, and yet here he was hoping he could rewrite an ending in which they lived and loved for the rest of their lives.
But realities awakening was harsh. Like a dagger pressed to the throat he finally stuttered out the words for whoever it was to step in.
His eyes locked onto Mark who stared at him intently, noticing quite quickly the plight of his friend. Yet for a moment he remained silent, walking and sitting down in a single strand of movements as he looked towards Jackson again.
"What's eating at you brother?" Jackson looked up.
"You know what."
"I do, but I want to hear you say it. I want to hear you say your feelings with your chest and I want you to finally say that you believe that there is more to this then what we're being told, because you and I both know there is Jack."
Jackson shot out of his seat.
"You know I can't Mark."
"And why?"
"Because the minute I do, the minute I say something, I've signed my warrant Mark. If I admit it out loud to anyone else I will not be able to live with myself. How could I? I can't. How can I admit that I think about her all the time, or that I care about her more than anyone. How can I admit that I don't know what I will do if any harm comes to her."
Mark watched him crossing his arms across his chest and fixing Jackson with a look.
"Why can't you?"
"Because nothing can ever happen between us. To admit those feeling knowing that, hurts too much Mark."
"And who's to say nothing can happen. You and I both know there is more to this Jackson, hold off so we can investigate this. So that you can have that happily ever after."
"Mr Kang would never let it happen, there is too much at stake here. It isn't as clear cut as you might think it is Mark. It is all talk and that is all it can ever be."
"You don't believe that."
"It doesn't matter what i believe Mark. It means nothing in this because either way we have a job to do and a higher price to pay."
Mark watched him carefully shaking his head as he chucked the file he had in his hands onto the table.
"So it shouldn't be difficult for you to bring her in then. The evidence they want to use is there." He eyed the file.
"Whatever you say Jackson, I know your heart. Hell I can see it, and for my own peace of mind as well as yours I'm going to investigate this."
He left shortly after, leaving Jackson alone to a moment of solitude. He opened the file, his hands dancing over the pictures. It was weak evidence, he could see it. And he knew it wouldn't be enough: it was a risky move on their side. A move that could prove to change everything against them. She was smart he knew that better than anyone, and he knew that this wouldn't not tame her. Not in slightest.
He reached over for the phone, dialling the number for the head office quickly from memory before bringing it up to his ear, his eyes still fixated on the photo. "Hi Sir, this is Jackson Wang. I was wondering if we could extend the arrest of Irene Bae by twenty four hours...no I understand that sir I just need to tie up some lose ends on my side, perhaps get something that has a more substantive weight against her than a photo...of course sir. Thank you. Power of unity." The phone fell out of his hand soon after.
An hour had passed and he remained unmoving from his position until it was time for him to go home. To her. He gulped slightly, as he jammed his key in, she smiled at him from the sofa, a dazzling smile that captivated him. "Jack?" She questioned noticing the way he froze. "Babe?" She questioned, setting down her laptop and standing up, her hand touching his bicep gently. "Jack is everything okay?" Wordlessly, almost desperately he pulled her into a hug, not paying attention to the small chuckle that escaped her lips nor the words that followed. "Did you miss me that much?" She teased; her arms wrapping around him tightly. "Jack is everything okay-" "I love you." He declared. She smiled at him softly. "I know Jack. I love you too." She kissed his cheek softly as she lead him over to the sofa, her hands massaging his tense back. "What would you like to do tonight?" She asked gently. "I just want to be with you." He stated, his voice hollow. "Always Jack." She settled down on his chest, his hands raking through her hair. They sat in silence, watching images flash on the TV until Irene got up to make them something to eat, he followed soon after, his arms wrapping around her waist, catching her by surprise. "Jack?" She questioned, her hand moving up to trace his jaw. He remained silent, prepping kisses on her neck and collar bone. "Babe." She moaned out gently, he picked her up, setting her down on the counter and kissing her gently, the passion being expressed through his light caresses. The moment was tender...fragile almost. But she gave into him, allowing him access to her. "What about food?" She asked with a breathy laugh as his hands continued to travel around her body. "Later." He whispered our, picking her up with ease and carrying her to the bedroom. Their bodies tangled amongst the sheets as he loved her generously and gently. He focused solely on her pleasure. On making this a moment to remember, but he knew it would be termed a moment of torment. He watched as she came undone beneath him, he joining her shortly after as he collapsed on top of her. She smiled, her hands tangling into his slightly damp hair, as his head rested on top of her heart, her legs still wrapped around him loosely. "I love you Jackson." She stated, his eyes unable to meet hers as he kissed the arm of the hand that held the nape of his neck gently. "It's crazy, how god finally decided to give me something so special after everything. I trust you more than anyone my love." His eyes watered listening to her, he closed them letting her play with his hair hoping that this would just last for a few more moments.
It didn't.
Irene sat in her office, her eyebrows tense as she looked down at files in front of her. She picked up her phone, "Lucas. I need you to change all the businesses into your name and I need you to do it now." "What sis why?" "I have a bad feeling, and I just need to make sure there's a safety net so that they don't link this back to me for now. Don't use our surname, use mums maiden name, if the police look into this they'll be thrown off." "It will be done sis, I've got people on it as we speak but where's this coming from?" "I was sent a file anonymously this morning and it contains information on someone I'm seeing-" "Hold on a minute SEEING!! As in relationship. When the hell did that-"
"We are getting off topic here." "No I don't think we are." "Lucas." "Sis." "Look the point is that I've been tipped off." "I'll handle the business side. Just be careful sis okay? I can't lose you." "And you won't. Not yet. Not until I burn them all to the ground." She ended the call, her hands picking up the file. A picture of Jackson clad in KI uniform staring back at her.
