Suspicion

Kay stopped in front of the closed door and looked around. No one was coming or going from the corridor or its rooms. She pressed her ear to the door and knocked softly. A quiet "come in" was heard and she opened the door.

Itachi was standing in his room, an opened scroll in his hands and his black eyes looked at Kay expectantly. She reluctantly entered his room and closed the door.

Kisame frowned as he watched her enter his partner's room. When they had returned from their Tailed Beast mission she had welcomed him home passionately and enthusiastically. But slowly, as the days passed, she began to ask him about Itachi and took time to seek him out but never managing to catch him in time. Until now.

"What is it?" The Uchiha asked patiently. "Ok, there's a backstory. Let me get you caught up" Kay said as she explained her and Shinju's encounters with the supposed Madara and how the eye came to be in her possession.

"Let me see it" Itachi asked, holding his hand out for the piece of fabric that Kay had been fiddling with. She handed it over and he took it and unwrapped the fabric gently. The orb swirled it's Sharingan angrily as it looked around. Itachi activated his Sharingan and looked into the eye.

Mental images began flashing through his mind, almost as if he was looking through the eye itself. A scene of running after a boy with tousled silver hair and a girl with purple face markings; a loud proclamation of becoming Hokage; fighting with the silver haired boy and losing; a kind blonde Sensei; a boulder and pain; Kay and Shinju; and finally, darkness.

He watched as the Sharingan disappeared and the eye closed, blind forever. He crushed the now useless orb in his fist and threw it in the garbage. He went into his bathroom and washed his hands, returning to the room drying his hands. Kay lay on his bed with her hands behind her head. Itachi sat down at the bed's edge. "Well?" Kay asked.

"His name was Obito Uchiha. He was, presumed, killed in the Third Shinobi War and his body was never recovered. The clan knew of his activities but he had never directly attacked the clan or Konoha so he was viewed as a pest and left to himself.

That all changed after he attacked the Village using the Nine Tails he had managed to unleash from Kushina's and Minato's control; you know the story from there" he finished.

Kay was silent a moment before asking "why did he show up now? And in the Akatsuki?"

Itachi looked at her, his onyx eyes boring into her green ones before he looked away. "It's possible he wanted one of you for your power. Or he had his own plan for the world and you two kept getting in the way. You do have a habit of doing that" he said as his hand reached out to touch Kay's cheek briefly as he smiled sadly.

She felt a surge of compassion for him as she sat on her knees and held his hand gently. "You're lonely" she stated. Another small smile appeared on his lips before she continued, "it was fun to run with you while you were in ANBU but we were kids back then. And you had Shisui" she said quietly.  "Hn" he said as he remembered his first love. "You still have people who care," she said as she sat closer to him and raised his chin so he looked at her, "Kisame, for example". The usually stoic man blushed at the mention of his partner.

"It was all simpler back then," he said as he brought his face closer to hers, "no clan war, clear objectives and you in Konoha" as his lips pressed against hers. Memories flooded her mind at the simple touch and she held his kiss a few seconds longer than she should have.

She's been in there too long, Kisame thought as his frown deepened. He strode over and threw the door open. He saw what he had suspected and his anger raged in him. Kay and Itachi quickly broke apart, "Kisa!" she exclaimed in surprise. He said nothing but his eyes showed his hurt and anger at his mate and his partner. Without a word he left the room, slamming the door with such force that it was torn from its hinges.

"GODDAMMIT ITACHI!" Kay yelled, pushing him away from her. "Stop living in the past!" She said as she left the room to find Kisame but Zetsu gleefully told her he had left the base when she ran into him.

She returned to her room and ransacked the place, her screams of anger and frustration echoing throughout the base. Eventually she exhausted herself and she collapsed to the floor and fell asleep curled in a fetal position.

Shinju gasped at the necklace that Kakuzu had presented her with at dinner. It was exquisite with a chain made of rose gold and a large, perfectly round, white pearl dangled from the chain. She excitedly lifted her hair as Kakuzu walked to her back and clasped the necklace on her neck, his fingers tracing the contours of her shoulders. "I love it! Thank you" she said to the smiling tanned man. "Good. It was difficult getting the vendor to agree on a price but we came to an agreement." She smiled at what that meant.

They were walking the streets of the Village, most of the inhabitants were in their homes and preparing for sleep but the two lovers wandered the empty streets enjoying each other's company.

Suddenly Kakuzu pulled her into a side street and pressed her back against the rough wooden wall. His lips kissed her and his tongue probed her lips, asking for entrance. She gave it to him and he pressed closer as his tongue battled for dominance. He was losing so he picked her up by her thighs and slammed her back against the wall. She moaned and pulled his hair, "You want it rough tonight?" she asked with a smirk.

He moved the fabric of her yukata off her thighs so that it was only kept closed by the obi at her waist. He moved her wet panties to the side and slid his hard member into her wetness. She gasped as he filled her and the night air was filled with lewd sounds as the lovers reconnected.
