Reckoning
Hidan kept his eyes focused on the ground following the footsteps of the two shinobi in front of him. He had spent a cold night passed out in an alleyway trying to forget what had happened with Kakuzu and the kunoichi.
She entwined her fingers in Kakuzu's, smiling up at him as she walked by his side. Kakuzu stared straight ahead ignoring the both of them. A frown lingered on his lips as he steeled himself to complete his mission. The petite woman arched her eyebrow quizzically as she looked at him but said nothing. He'll talk when he's ready, she reasoned.
"OI! SHIT-SKIN!" Hidan hollered. Kakuzu flinched at the loud interruption. "What?!" He snapped as his tendrils left his hand and smacked Hidan across the face. Holding his red cheek the Jashinist looked to the side and mumbled "Are we there yet?" "No. Now shut up" he grumbled and increased his pace.
They broke for lunch, Kakuzu taking his woman deeper into the forest to spend some time with her. Hidan was left to poke at the campfire and make sure that the food they had foraged for didn't burn. "HEY! THE FOOD IS DONE! HEY!!!" He yelled trying to get his words to break through the moaning coming from the forest.
Sulking he portioned the food into three meals and ate his alone. He had just settled against a tree, his scythe leaning against his shoulder, and closed his eyes. He didn't bother opening them when he heard the other two come back. "Fucking savages" he mumbled under his breath, careful to not let Kakuzu hear.
They rested for a few hours until Kakuzu decided they had had enough rest. Standing up he picked up his briefcase, kicked Hidan to wake him and threw the sleeping woman over his shoulder. She refused to wake and shifted in his grasp until she was comfortable. Following them again Hidan gently tucked a stray strand of purple hair behind her ear. She was a good bitch, he thought, but he had learned his lesson when crossing her.
Darkness fell and she stirred. Stretching and yawning she looked around. She was in a building that was perched precariously on the edge of a cliff. Rocky crags and crevasses pitted the cliff face and her eyes widened at the sharp stalagmites protruding from the ground at the base. She shuddered as she imagined the damage they could do to a body that was unlucky enough to find itself tumbling down there.
Turning away from the window she spied a crack of light emitting from a hastily closed sliding door. She crept closer to the light and pressed her eye to the crack. She saw Kakuzu standing next to a tall bruiser of a man.
He was the same height as Kakuzu but his shoulders were broader and his fists were the size of her head. His hair grew in patches where there were no scars and his hair stuck out at crazy angles. His face and body was crisscrossed with an assortment of scars that did nothing to soften his menacing look. He hooked his thumbs into his belt and looked at Kakuzu. "Kiri is pleased you have caught her. Here is her price, as agreed" he rasped out, every word needing a new breath. He handed Kakuzu a carrier scroll that Kakuzu promptly unrolled and transferred the contents to his briefcase. Locking it shut he turned away from the grotesque man and moved to the door.
"OI! What about her death fee?" Hidan piped up from the chair he was lazily lounging on. Kakuzu glared at him, warning him to shut up. The scarred man rasped out "An extra 500 million ryo to whomever kills her and solves Kirigakure's problem for good". "Fan-fucking-tastic!" Hidan crowed and moved to the door licking one of his scythe blades.
She scrambled back on her feet and looked around for a means of escape. She cursed under her breath at Kirigakure and it's Mizukage. Her eyes cast around the room and before she could make a mad dash for her satchel and the front door, the sliding door opened bathing her in harsh yellow light.
"You heard" Kakuzu stated. "You fucking traitor!" She yelled at him. She got up on her feet and rushed at him. He blocked her punches easily and she skidded back. Her hands wove signs but before she could complete her jutsu, a force struck her in the back. She screamed as Hidan dug his scythe blade into her and twisted. "PAYBACK YOU PSYCHOTIC BITCH!" He screamed at her before kicking her off his blade. She went crashing into the man from Kiri and he grabbed her hair and pulled hard.
Tears welled in her eyes as her hands scratched uselessly against the stronger man's grip. It felt like he would tear her scalp from her skull. "Why?!" She cried at Kakuzu, her lover, her partner. Her man.
He approached her slowly and used his tendrils to bind her ankles and wrists and wrapped around her throat. Her wrists being bound aggravated her back wound and she grimaced in pain, biting her lip to stop herself from crying out. He stood close to her and traced her jaw with his fingers. "You should know that nothing is guaranteed in this life" he said placing a tender kiss on her lips. Her lips kissed him back hungrily trying to make him see reason.
He broke the kiss and stepped back. "Hidan" was all he said and the silver haired man grinned wickedly. He swung his scythe and the blades sank into her abdomen. Blood spurted from her mouth as she screamed. Hidan withdrew his blades and licked it. "Hmmm tastes as good as you once did" he purred at her. "Finish this Kakuzu" The Kiri shinobi rasped out.
Her eyes were closing due to blood loss and her legs weakened. She slumped in the man's grip, no longer caring that she was going to die. Kakuzu approached her again and swiftly plunged a kunai into her chest, pulling the blade down as it sliced through skin, muscle and bone. She didn't have the energy to scream and felt herself go completely limp. Her blood fell to the floor, the droplets breaking and staining surfaces crimson.
Kakuzu gathered her body into his arms and walked out of the ramshackle hideout with Hidan following close behind him. Kakuzu walked to the cliff's edge, looked at her one last time, and let her slip from his arms. He watched her body plunge into the darkness below to be swallowed by the abyss.
Hidan put a hand on Kakuzu's shoulder. "C'mon geezer. We need to get back to Pein-sama. Fuck her; you'll find a new and better bitch soon" he said as he pulled the silent man to follow him. Kakuzu stuffed the small carrier scroll with the death fee payment into his briefcase, turned and headed into the dark forest, following Hidan.
