Meeting the Leprechan King.
To most passengers the flight to Ireland were keeping themselves amused and trying to relax with the tv and movies provided, their computers or iPads, reading books or magazines or were asleep. Maurice however, found it impossible to relax his mind racing with questions and he found himself full of worry.
At last the plane arrived and Maurice was anxious to disembark collect his suitcase and get about his business. It was already late and so he quickly rented a car and booked a room and then drove to his destination, The mountain known as Monadnock. It was a treacherous climb and it took him several hours to reach the top.
However, he found that once he did his climb was not in vain for no sooner had he reached the mountains peak he spotted a leprechaun. Now it wasn't the king of the leprechaun's but Maurice knew that he could force the leprechaun to summon his master if he wished it.
"Ah ha. I've got you in my sights and I want mu wishes." Maurice said cornering the leprechaun making sure to keep his gaze on the little man so that he could not disappear on him.
"What do you want make your wishes and be done with it! I suppose you want to wish for a crock of gold." The leprechaun asked.
"I've no interest in your gold." Maurice replied.
"No interest in my gold? What kind of trick be this? All men are greedy and desire our wealth."
"I don't. All I desire is a meeting with your king. I have an urgent matter i need to discuss with him."
"I'm not going to summon my King so you can force him to do your bidding. Forget it!"
"It is my wish to speak with your king. Are you going to refuse to grant my wish?" Maurice said with a smile.
"You know I can't. All right look away and I'll inform his majesty of your desire."
"Oh no, I'm not going to fall for that trick. If I remove my gaze from you for even a moment then you'll disappear and I'll never see you again. No, I shall not release you from my gaze."
"Then let me call my friend." With that the leprechaun whistled and another leprechaun appeared at his side. Now any other man would have kept his gaze upon the two of them thus doubling their wishes however, Maurice was a man of integrity he wouldn't take advantage of the situation. "Tell the king there is a mortal who wishes to speak with him."
"Inform him that he refused the pot of gold and doesn't desire anything other then speaking to him. He has some urgent matter he wishes to discuss with him. Though what this mortal wants I do not know."
The other leprechaun nodded and disappeared and soon a leprechaun with a small gold crown on his head appeared upon the mountain.
"What's this I hear about a mortal refusing the pot of gold and refusing his wishes even though he had a chance to make six wishes due to having his gaze upon two of my subjects?" The leprechaun king demanded.
"There be the fellow." One of the leprechaun's replied pointing to Maurice.
"What sort of trickery is this? Make your wishes and be done with it." The leprechaun king demand.
"I don't desire any wishes." Maurice replied.
"You mean to tell me that you don't want a pot of gold?" The leprechaun King demanded.
"No. All I seek is an audience with you your majesty." Maurice replied.
"Well then, tell me what is troubling you my good man." The leprechaun King replied jumping up to sit down next to Maurice.
"Many years ago a leprechaun cursed my family for stealing his gold. My family has suffered for years because of this curse each of our young male family members dying at an young age. My wife was desperate to save both my son and I and so she called upon a leprechaun to come and save us.
"Struck a deal with him did she?"
"Aye. To save our families from his wretched cursed she promised our unborn daughter would live a life of servitude to this horrible creature. My daughter said the oath that requires all mythical creatures to do as we desire but he tricked her."
"He promised to free her but then went back on his word. Then he convinced her to agree to be his bride for eternity. Swearing to remove all curses from our family yet, even now he hasn't fulfilled that vow. She doesn't know he lied to her and she took the oath becoming his bride." Maurice said sadly.
The leprechaun King frowned at this news. "Blast. Sounds like the doing of my no good brother and my nephew." The leprechaun King replied with a sigh.
"Can you help me save her?" Maurice asked.
"Unfortunately, I have no authority over my brother or his kin." The leprechaun King replied sadly.
"Is there nothing you can do to help me?" Maurice asked.
"I'm afraid not. A vow made to any magical creature is forever binding. I can not undue what my nephew has done. However, there maybe a way to still save your daughter. You said he hasn't fulfilled his vow. How so?"
"He swore to remove all curses from our family and yet he didn't remove the curse from my father which also falls upon me. His father cursed my father That before He died he'd return to take what he loved the most from him. He never fulfilled this vow but as he died he swore that his curse would be fulfilled."
"That I would die. His son did return and when he did he cursed me saying that he'd fulfill his father's curse through me. That he would return one day and take from me the thing I loved the most. So you see he didn't remove all the family curses as he promised. He did take from me what I loved the most. He took my daughter from me."
"Then all you have to do is convince your daughter that he didn't fulfill his end of the bargain and the deal shall be nullified. I can not free your daughter but take this special gold coin and when the time is right give it to her. It will help you. I wish I could do more. Good luck son." The leprechaun King said with a slight smile before disappearing into the night.
