Eight

A few months into the pregnancy, my stomach swelled up like I had a watermelon was growing inside of me. Gilbert would often laugh at me while Ludwig would scold him for laughing at me. I kept telling Ludwig that it was fine and that I didn't mind. As I got bigger and bigger, Ludwig got more and more protective and nervous about me going out on the town. He kept looking over his shoulder and going in front of me with his brother right behind me as if to guard me. I couldn't understand if it was because he was afraid that I would hurt myself or the baby, or if it had something to do with other countries hurting me.

3rd Person's POV

One night, while sleeping in bed, Germany had a horrible nightmare that shook him to the deep of his very core.

Germany's Nightmare

Germany found himself on what looked to be a battlefield. Smoke was rising, buildings were burning, the scent of gunpowder penetrated the air. How had he gotten here? And where were all the people? "Hallo?" he called out. "Is anyone here?"

That's when he heard a scream. It wasn't just any scream though; it was a scream that belonged to Catherine. "Ludwig! Help!" her voice called out. However, it seemed to call out in every direction so Germany couldn't really pinpoint where it was coming from.

"Catherine?! Vhere are you?!" Germany shouted, running back and forth in different directions trying to find his wife. Where could she have been? Was she hurt? Was she in danger? All these questions bounced around in Germany's head as he tried to find Catherine.

"Ludwig!" her voice called out again, this time in more dire need. This time, as well, Germany was able to pinpoint where her voice was coming from, which was from the North. Germany ran through the battlefield, praying that his dear wife was all right. The thought of something bad happening to her made him want to scream but he tried not to think about that.

She's alright, she's alright, he repeated several times in his head. "Catherine, I'm coming. Please, hold on."

He looked everywhere for his pregnant wife. Where could she have possibly been? When he finally found her, Germany was shocked at what he saw; Catherine was in the hands of Britain and France. Catherine looked at Germany with pleading eyes. "Ludwig, help!" she cried as Britain roughly held her by her arm.

Germany took a step closer but Britain pointed his gun at him. "Not another step Germany," Britain demanded. "If you do, you'll be sorry, trust me."

Germany growled in anger. "Vhat do you vant?" he growled.

"Surrender and pay back all zhe money from zhe war," France said. "If you don't, we will be taking 'er with us."

Anger was boiling up inside of Germany. He glanced over at Catherine and saw her pleading eyes. "Ludwig, don't," Catherine begged. "You can't surreneder everything just for me."

"I refuse to leave vithout you," Germany replied before looking at Britain and France. "Fine. You vin. I'll tell my country to surreneder. And I'll get you the money you vant."

"All of it?" Britain questioned.

He looked back at Catherine and nodded. "All of it. Every last Euro. Just promise that you von't hurt her."

"You have a deal," Before they could even shake on it, Germany felt a pain in his lower abdomine. He fell to the ground and felt like something had gone through him. His vision blurred as he put his hand down to his stomach and brought it up to reveal blood dripping between his fingers. He had been shot. As he began to try to get to his feet, everything seemed to go in slow motion. He heard Britain and France laughing while Catherine cried out his name.

"LUDWIG!" she shouted as he lost consciousness.

End of Nightmare

Germany shot awake in his bed and panted. He frantically looked around and then sighed with relief when he saw Catherine asleep on the other side of the bed. It vas just a dream, He thought as he laid back down. More like a nightmare. Oh, thank goodness it vasn't real. As a million thoughts raced through his head, Germany looked at Catherine's sleeping form. She looked so peaceful in her sleep, like a angel that had fallen into a deep slumber. Then Germany glanced down to Catherine's stomach. The little baby growing inside there was his and her child. Still, that worried Germany. No country had ever had a child with a human before, or as far as he knew. He wasn't sure what was going to happen. Would something happen to Catherine? The baby? Or maybe the both of them? This was not what he needed right now.

That's when Catherine stirred a bit in her sleep. She groaned and her hands began to search around. They reached up until she felt Ludwig's hands wrap around hers. Catherine relaxed in her sleep and smiled a bit as she relaxed back into the bed. Germany couldn't help but smile at Catherine before planting a kiss on her head. "Ich liebe dich," he whispered to her, wrapping his arms around her and holding her close to his body as she slept.
