Chapter Two
"Hey kitty." Dick smiles looking down at me. I break apart the hug and look at him properly. He's let his hair grow out again and although it's short there are pieces of hair that are starting to fall on his head.
"Birdie." I reply smiling. He looks at my skinny body then at my face again.
"Bruce called and said you relapsed so I decided to stop by for a few days to try make you feel better." Dick says with a small smile and I grin back happy to see him. Dick is like that older brother I never had. When I was younger and he was just starting out as Nightwing he'd come to my mom's almost empty apartment and keep me company until she came back. At one point he was all I had for family.
"Grayson." Damian starts clearly unamused at his arrival, "You are not needed here, me and Todd have this under control." He says stepping infront of me protectively like Dick is a bad guy which makes me smile at Damian. He's too protective sometimes...
Dick looks down at Damian, towering over him with a smile, "I came because I knew you and Jason were all Bruce had to help her recover." He says and smiles knowing he really pissed off Damian.
"And what is that supposed to mean?!" Damian yells at him annoyed but fully aware that we're better with Dick helping me too. I guess he just hates the rest of the bat boys so much he'd argue and fight with them whenever her got the opportunity to...
"Think straight baby bird." He tells Damian, continuing to piss him off more and more, "You will scare her or make her spiral and Jason will get her addicted to drugs and alcohol." Dick explains not one bit afraid of Damian. A quality most people don't have.
"I'd never hurt her Grayson." Damian says surprising civil but ruins the moment when he punches Dick in the stomach, "But you." He smiles, "I could go all day and night." He smirks before leaving.
I go up to Dick to see if Damian had anything on his knuckles that wou do really hurt him, more than a normal punch would.
"He need to go to anger management just as much as Jason does." Dick chuckles.
"I heard that." Jason glares as he walks in with a half empty beer bottle then lies on the couch drinking it.
"Happy late birthday." Dick says to Jason who chokes on the last of his drink before sitting up and managing to swallow it.
"W-What?!" Jason asks nervously. Ever since Jason came back from the dead he's been different. Apparently before he was just a kid with troubles, now he's just a troubled kid. Of course I never met Jason until he became Red Hood so all I see is an antihero who drinks his life away but from what Dick told ,me a both him before, it's a shame he turned out like this.
"Your birthday Jason." Dick repeats smiling, "It was last month. Happy Birthday." He says.
"You remembered?" Jason asks complete stunned that somebody remembered about him. I smile at the ground. I used to be exactly like Jason. Dick remembered my 12th birthday and I was so confused as to how and why he remembered. I even got a cake and a card.
"Of course I remembered, you're 19 now." Dick replies then looks at the roof and sighs, "I was going to send a check but I thought you'd use the money on drugs so instead I got you a gift card-"
"I hate you." Jason glares.
"Let me finish." Dick says then pauses before taking out a gift cart and handing it to Jason with a finger on his lips.
Jason looks at the card and a mischievous smirk appears on his face, "best.birthday.gift.ever." Jason smiles putting the card away in his pocket. I loo over at Dick who taps his nose and I sigh. I guess I'll never know what that card was for...
Dick then looks at me, "Ok now I've made Jason happy, tell me what I've missed." He tells me and I nod then begin to tell him everything that went on between me and my mother.
