two weeks later.

America stood by the waving flag in the middle of the town square, more commonly known as el Zocalo to the people of Mexico. It was the place she and Oscar agreed to meet. He told her he was going to be staying in a hotel on the west side of the buildings that surrounded the square and she felt her stomach churn as she stood there waiting for him to arrive.

She was nervous to say the least.

Oscar had arrived in the capital of Mexico a few hours earlier and  they had agreed they would meet that same day. He just couldn't wait any longer and wanted to see her.

The moment he stepped out of the hotel building and into the square full of busy people and tourists, he felt nervous. He grabbed his cellphone out of his pocket and checked the time. 3:51pm. They were set to meet at four. His mind was plagued by negative thoughts and he wondered if she would like him after meeting him. Then he thought about April's words. What if America wasn't who she claimed to be?

She began to feel her heart race when she saw him approaching the flag that stood tall and proud in the middle of the plaza. When he caught her staring at him, he shot her a polite smile.

America smiled back, but her smile faded slightly when there was no recognition in his eyes. In his mind, she was a blonde. Not a brunette. Still, she felt bad that he didn't know who she was. A few minutes passed before she gathered the courage to talk to him.

Taking a few steps in his direction, she waved awkwardly. "Hi."

"Hola." He responded, trying not to be rude. But his eyes were searching for his beautiful girlfriend. There waas silence between them for a few moments before Oscar decided to ask the dark haired girl a question. "Excuse me," He began in Spanish, "Is this the Zocalo?" America found his Portugese accent to be adorable, and the sound of his voice even more so.

She nodded. "Yes."

"Then I'm in the right place." He announced proudly, adding, "I'm supposed to meet my girlfriend here in a few minutes. Thank you for helping me..." He trailed off so that she could tell him her name.

America opened her mouth to speak when she was interrupted by a familiar girly voice that boomed loudly in her ears. "Prima!" (tr: cousin!) The blonde hurried over to America and threw her arms around her in a hug bone shattering hug. "I was just at the jewelry store back there. You won't believe the lovely necklace I bought for my upcoming photoshoot!" Regina gushed with excitement. That was the moment America's blood ran cold and she knew it was all over. She was going to tell Oscar the truth anyway, but now it wouldn't even be through her own words.

And he would hate her for it.

The young Brazilian saw the blonde carrying shopping bags and his eyes brightened. It was like nothing else was important to him but her. And it hit America in her heart.

He loved Regina because it was the face he knew.

She knew she had to stay and explain things to him. She needed to let him know she was the one behind the phone screen, not Regina. But it hurt too much to see him so happy. It hurt to know she wasn't the reason for his smile. When Regina pulled away from her cousin, the first thing Oscar did was bring her into his arms and press his lips against hers without warning.

America's eyes brimmed with tears and she bit down on her lip when it began to quiver. The sight before her was too much for her to bear and she turned away from them.

Erick, who was just arriving at the town square after bothering Regina for hours to let him know where America would be, saw his former girlfriend with slumped shoulders and tears running down her face. He loved her and hated to see her upset. But also saw this as his opportunity, since she was vulnerable he thought he would make his move.

Walking up to her, he asked in a sympathetic tone, "Why are you crying?" He placed a hand on her shoulder while the other went to caress her face.

But she swatted his hand away. "Leave me alone, Erick." She sniffed.

She was in no mood to deal with him and his delusions. Not now. Today her heart was broken and she was aware that it had all been her fault.

The twenty-one year old footballer from Chivas USA tried to comfort her by putting his arms around her, but she refused. It was then that Erick saw them, as his eyes looked over her shoulder in search of whatever made her upset. They were a few feet away. It was America's cousin Regina and Oscar Emboaba, the boy who was trying to take her from him. He had her in his arms and his lips were on hers. Erick immediately regretted the words once they left his mouth. "He must've not loved you enough if he's with your cousin now." When her cries turned to sobs, he rubbed her back soothingly and this time she let him comfort her. "That was heartless to say. I'm sorry Ami."

He let her cry into his chest until he found a chance to kiss her. The two pulled away when she was able to control her tears. Erick cupped her face in his hands and brought his lips to hers. It was something unexpected that took America completely by surprise.

When Oscar pulled away from the girl he thought was his girlfriend, his smile dropped when he noticed the confusion on her face. "Why the hell would you kiss me? I thought you were dating America..."

"You're America." Oscar stated simply.

"No," The blonde shook her head. "You've got the wrong person. My name isn't America, its Regina."

"What do you mean?" He asked. It took him a moment to catch on.

Regina turned and pointed to America who was a few feet away, kissing Erick.

"She's America Hernandez."

Oscar felt as though his heart had shattered into a thousand pieces. America wasn't the person she said she was.
