Catching the Bouquet (Boys)

I sat in bed just scrolling through Wattpad when my mom yelled for me.

"What?" I yelled back.

"Get in here!" She shouted, "Tera and Douglas are here!"

I smiled and jumped off my bed.

Doug was my favorite cousin. Him and his fiancé, Tera, are the cutest couple and I love them to bits. Unlike everyone else in my life, they actually take me seriously. For example, once I was really stressed about school, my parents divorce, my friends failed relationship, and my grandma in the hospital. Everyone thought it was just teen hormones, but they didn't. They sat down with me and my friends and we talked about it.

I ran down the hallway and into the living room.

Doug had his arm around Tera and were still talking to mom.

Doug has dark brown hair with eyes to match. He wasn't fat, but he was bigger that average. He was about 6"2 or so and had tattoos all over his arms and part of his chest.

Tera's hair was dyed auburn and she had greenish-blue eyes. She's considered overweight due to her height, but she's actually a normal weight if you went by age. She was about 5"3 and had some tattoos, but most were on her back.

I walked up behind Mom just as she was finishing up what she was saying.

Doug nodded and looked at me. "Hey Y/n, how've you been?"

I smiled as Tera pulled away from him and walked over to hug me.

"I've been fine," I said, "just been a little bored lately."

"Well, are you two coming to the wedding?" He asked.

"Of course we are!" Mom said, "Why wouldn't we?"

They glanced at each other but quickly looked back at us.

"Well...um...Doug and I were thinking about doing something really big,"-another glance at each other-"but that means everyone needs to come with a date."

I looked at Mom and she looked at me.

"Who are you going to go with?" I asked.

"Me?" She said putting her had on her chest,
"Who are you going to go with?"

I shrugged. "Probably one of my friends."

"Which one?" Tera asked.

"Probably Hannah." I answered.

It wasn't actually a date, so I didn't think much of it. Plus, having my best friend at my favorite cousin's wedding would be awesome.

I turned back to Mom, "So, who are you going with?"

She looked at me and raise and eyebrow. "Why should I tell you?"

I rolled my eyes, "I don't know, maybe because I'm your son."

She rolled her eyes, "I don't know. I'll ask my friends and see who's available."

We looked back at the couple.

"Okay, so you both are coming with dates, right?" Doug asked.

We both nodded.

"Good. Now you both know that you have to wear something red, right?" He asked.

"Yes, and we know we have to wear dresses and tuxedos." I said while laughing a bit, "I've already got mine."

They smiled.

We talked for a good two hours, but they had to leave because they still needed to stop by my aunt's house.

Mom went to her room and I sat on my couch and pulled out my phone.

I was going to text Hannah and ask, but I remembered she had softball practice, so I decided to wait until tomorrow.

I looked through my contacts because I wanted to talk to someone. My eyes stopped on Mark's contact and I texted him, telling him about the whole "date to the wedding" thing.

He already knew about it because he was one of the first people I ever told.

In all honesty, I loved talking to Mark. Through text and in person. He's just really easy to talk to and we understand each other a lot.
Him and I talked for a while, but he had to charge his phone up, so I decided to go to bed.

~

When I got to school the next day, I automatically started looking for Hannah.

We've been friends since 6th grade and we're going to graduate this year.

I went into the cafeteria after I stopped at my locker. Her, Jack, Felix, and Ken were already there.

"Hey Hannah?" I asked putting my books down and sitting in between Mark and Ken.

"Yeah?" She said looking up at me.

Her long, light brown hair with purple tips was in a high bun. Her icy blue eyes looked at me with question. Her makeup was done really well and her outfit was on point. Hannah was about 5"5 and average weight.

Jack had brown hair and bright blue eyes. He's the same height as Hannah, but she was about a quarter taller. He moved from his original town in Ireland to here after his dad got a new job. Fun fact about him: He's the youngest of five kids.

Felix moved from his small town in Sweden to here after his parents got a good deal off an appointment. He's about 5"6 and really skinny. He has blue eyes and blonde hair.

Ken had dark drown hair and eyes, and he wears his glasses sometimes. He was like 5"7, but when he sits, he looks about as tall as Hannah. He was average weight and very hairy.

"Will you the honor of being my date for my cousin's wedding?" I said while grabbing her hand.

They all laughed.

"Oh how I would love to go, but I've to help my grandma that night."

"What?" I squeaked, pulling my hands away.

Bob and Wade put their stuff down and sat net to Jack and Ken.

"Sorry Y/n, but I already promised her."

I growled and started to mess with the zipper on my pencil pouch.

"What's going on?" Wade asked.

Wade was like 5"11 but he's not intimidating. He had greenish-brown eyes with curly brown hair. He was average weight and probably the healthiest one out of all of us.

Bob was an inch shorter than him, but he was a bit overweight. He wore thick glasses that hid his dark eyes and has light, curly brown hair.
"Y/n needs a date to his cousin's wedding." Felix said in a heavy Swedish accent.

They made "Oooohhhhh" faces and shrugged.

"Are any of you guys free Saturday?" I asked looking at the men of the table.

"Wade and I are helping my uncle and aunt move." Bob said.

"I'm to that Panic! At the Dico concert that I've been dying to go to." Jack said in his high pitched, Irish accent.

"I have to go to my sister's Girl Scout camping trip." Felix said.

"What time is it?" Ken asked.

I filled up with hope.

"2 o'clock to 6, but that's including the reception."

He made an oh-sorry face.

"I have a date with Mary at three."

I shook my head and shrugged.

"Why do you even need a date?" Hannah asked.

I looked at her, "I have no idea. Apparently they're planning on doing something at the reception and everyone needs a partner."

Jack raised an eyebrow and looked at me, "Who's your mom going with?"

"One of her friends from high school." I rolled my eyes.

"Well ask Mark." Hannah said motioning to the door.

I looked over my shoulder as Mark walked past a few people.

His thin glasses were blocking his dark brown eyes. His black hair was slightly messy and kind of wet. Mark's like 5"6, and he's average weight plus small muscles.

As he got closer, I asked, "Mark, what are you doing Saturday?"

He put books down and walked to me.

"Nothing that I know of, why?" He said.

He hit puberty early, which caused his voice to be very deep.

I decided to be the funny person and stand up.

"We're going on a date!" I shouted while throwing my arms up. Other people from other tables looked at us.

Everyone at our table laughed and Mark's face got so red.

"W-Wait, what?" He questioned.

I laughed, "Rember the thing I told you last night about my cousin's wedding?"

"The thing about needing a date?"

"Yeah." I said, "Well, everyone else is busy, so"-I got down on one knee and grabbed his hand- "will you, Mark Edward Fishbach, be my date to my cousin's wedding?"

Everyone laughed, including the people listening in on out conversation.

Mark covered his mouth and pretended to cry.

"Yes." He fake cried and nodded his head.
That made everyone laugh even harder, including me.

I stood up and we sat down.

Today was the day; Doug and Tera's wedding.
I looked at the clock and saw that I had two hours to get ready.

I put on my skinny jeans, white button up, and red vest. I Googled how to tie a tie and quickly tied my tie. I slipped on my converses and walked out of the bathroom.

I looked at the clock and saw that I only had an hour left.

"Mom, are you ready?" I yelled through out the house.

"Almost." She said then poked her head out of her room, "Have you seen my heels?"

"Check the kitchen." I said as I walked back into my room.

I quickly went to the bathroom and closed the door so I could look at myself...and so I could take pictures because I looked awesome.

I heard someone knock at the door, so I jogged to the door to see a very handsome Mark.

He was wearing a black vest over a white button-up with sleeves, and instead of wearing dress pants and shoes, he wore skinny jeans and converse. The only need he was wearing was his tie.

I looked like a waiter compared to him.

I smiled, "Well, hello handsome."

He chuckled, "How are you gorgeous?"

We both laughed and I moved out of the way so he could come in.

"Mom, Mark's here!" I yelled.

She walked out of her room wearing her long, red dress because she was one of the bridesmaids maids. Her makeup was nicely done and her hair was put up perfectly. She had her small red purse and camera.
She looked at us and smiled.

"Awe, look at you two." She squealed.

I looked at Mark, with a slight blush on my face, and squinted my eyes at him. He had a massive blush and and awkward smile.

After staring him down, mom wanted to get pictures of us. Once we were done, we had about 15 minutes to get to the flower field.

We all packed into the car and drove to the field.

~

The wedding itself was only like 15 minutes. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it.

Tera looked amazing in her wedding dress. It only went to her knees, but it was obvious it was a wedding dress. It had one strap, so it showed off most of her tattoos. She wore red heels and had a bouquet of roses.

All the bridesmaids maids were wearing the same thing Mom was wearing. The groomsmen wore red tuxedos and white under shirts.

Doug wore a red tux too, but it was a different shade of red.

The reception was at a building  at the edge of the flower field.

There were round tables with four chairs at each. White sheets draped over the sides while red roses sat in the middle of each of them along with small gift bags.

Red streamers and bows lined the walls along with huge pictures of Doug and Tera.

Mom, Frank (her "date"), Mark and I sat right next to the dance floor.

There was a stage with a live band and not too far from it was the food and presents table.
We watched Doug and Tera dance in the middle on the floor, and in all honestly, I almost cried. They were perfect for each other.

After it was over, my aunt rolled in the cake. It was white, but all the corners had red icing followed by small chocolate roses.

Tera got up on the stage with Doug quickly following behind.

"Come on ladies," She said into the mic, "get in the middle!"

She handed the mic to Doug and she waited for the girls to get into the middle.

I got up with my mom's camera and walked to the sidelines to take some pictures of desperate girls.

However, by the time I got all the settings right and put the camera to my face, I saw roses coming at me in full speed.

I quickly pulled the camera down and caught the bouquet witty on hand.

Mark walked over to me and said, "How'd you catch that?"

I shrugged with a smirk on my face, "Lucky I guess."

"Okay," Tera said into the mic, "since Y/n caught the bouquet, him and Mark go first!"

"What?" I questioned, switching my gaze from Tera to Mark.

"Do you know what's going on?" He whispered.

Oh yeah, did I mention that Mark is very shy when you first meet him?

I looked at him and shook my head.

"What's going on?" I asked as the bride and groom came at us with bandanas.

"It's a game where we tie your left foot and hand to his right foot and hand, and blindfold him and cover your mouth." Doug explained, "It just test your cooperation skills."

Tera put our blindfolds on us while Doug tied our feet and hands together.

We were instructed to get to the cake and get cut a slice.

Mark and tried to walk, but we didn't know which foot we were going to move first, so we used the wrong one and I almost fell.

"Y/n, which foot are we using?" Mark asked.

I couldn't talk, so I patted his right leg and he nodded.

We started going again, but Mark was going too fast. A muffled "Slow down" came from my mouth, but he didn't hear me.

People continuously laughed at us for not understanding what to do. I felt Mark shaking and grabbed his hand, signaling that we could stop if he wanted.

He gulped back tears and said, "I'll be fine."

We stared again, but the laughs only grew louder. Mark clearly started going faster so we could leave the center of attention, but he was walking way too fast and wasn't stopping when I tried pushing him back or anything.

We ran right into the cake.

Technology, I tripped and fell forward, my side hitting the side of the tray with the cake, making it fall on my back. Mark fell on top of me right after the cake did too.

The laughing fell short and everything was silent.

I could feel a bruise forming on my side as my back stared to feel a dull pain from Mark.

He untied the bandanas and quickly got up. I heard heavy footsteps swiftly go the the nearest exit.

At that moment, I didn't care about myself at all; All I cared about was making sure my date was okay.

I got up, pulled the bandana off and ran to the exit that was almost closed. I swung open the door and looked for Mark.

I saw him running through the flower field, so I ran after him, screaming his name multiple times.

"It was a mistake!" He screamed back, "I'm sorry!

"Mark, I'm not mad!"

He stopped and turned around, I ran up to him and stopped.

"How are you so patient with me? I screwed up everything for you, and you still don't hate me, how?" He cried out.

"Because I don't care, Mark." I said, "That wasn't my cake; That wasn't my bouquet; And that definitely wasn't our fault!"

"That's not what I'm talking about!" He howled, "Y/n, I screw up everything for you. I have a breakdown, you come and help instead of doing your work; I get broken up with, you make sure I'm fine instead of going to class; I get a detention, you join me instead of going home and helping your mom; We go on a date, and I ruin your tux-"

I hugged him, not caring about the cake all over his back. We stood there for a bit, but he soon hugged me back. He dug his face into the crook of my neck and I laid my head on his shoulder.

"Mark, I'm always there because I care." I said and there was a long period of silence, "I love you, Mark."

Okay, yes I had a crush on Mark ever since we met as freshmen, but I never really realized how much I liked him until now. And boy, those words tasted sweet in my mouth.

He was silent for a long time, but finally said, "I love you too, Y/n."

I lifted my head off his shoulder and he moved his head out of my neck. We looked into each others eyes and slowly leaned in until out lips met in the middle.

Thank god I caught that bouquet.

~

Mark and I walked to school on Monday, hand in hand.

"Awe!" Our friends cooed when they saw us.

We sat and talked for a while, but I suddenly remembered Hannah's grandma.

"Hey Hannah, what did your grandma need your help with?" I asked.

She raised an eyebrow, "What are you talking about?"

I looked at her confused, "You said you had to help your grandma the day of the wedding."

Her face didn't change, but her eyes moved to Mark and she suddenly had a look of oh-yeah.

"Oh..um...she needed help moving..."-she glanced at Jack and he shrugged-"some chairs. Yeah, she needed help moving chairs!"

I looked at Mark, then at Hannah.

"Mark told you about the date thing and asked you to come up with an excuse, didn't he."

"How'd you know?"

I shrugged with a smirk on my face, "Lucky I guess."
