Chapter Two: Set
The next morning, I woke up to Rima shaking me. "We have class in half an hour, get up!"
I groaned and rolled away from her, the activities of last night replaying in my head. Today would be ridiculously awkward.
I couldn't get it off my mind as I showered. Not even when I had some blood tablets after getting dressed, not when I walked down the hallway receiving an awkward glance form Hanabusa, not when I sat on the lounge beside Kyo and Takara.
"Good morning!" Takara smiled at me. Kyo did not say anything, she kept her eyes glued to her electronic game.
"Did you sleep well?"
"Like a baby."
I liked Takara. Both she and Takuma had been very sweet to me, and they suited eachother well. However, to say I was jealous of both Kyo and Takara was an understatement.
Kyo, with her long, black hair and five white streaks was beautiful, but cold to anyone that wasn't Takara, Hanabusa or Akatsuki. Also, she has a great amount of care and respect for Kaname, just like her boyfriend.
It was her eyes that bothered me. They were blue, but the blue was so dark, like a night sky. To add to that there are flecks of both black and white swimming in her iris'. I hated her for her perfection.
Takara competes well. Her hair is also black, at the top. It fades into brown and then the very ends are blonde. Her hair was heavily dyed, obviously. She always has the back half pulled up, leaving the bottom down. Kyo usually has ponytails.
Her eyes were a lot more simple, but still as beautiful as Takara's. They were golden with green rims. It made her look like a tiger.
I have nothing. My hair is a dull light brown, it always looks unruly so I keep it in a bun. My eyes are green, but not a nice emerald like Takuma's, not a dark green like Tor who is a member of the disciplinary committee, an ugly, shrub kind of colour.
Unlike the other two it's the only colour in my eyes.
"Uh, Maiko?" I snapped back to reality to stare at Takara, Kyo and a newly joined Takuma. All three watched with confused eyes.
"Are you okay?"
"Of course! Why wouldn't I be?"
"You've been staring at us for like...five minutes," Kyo added, before standing up and walking to the stairs. I laughed nervously, before teleporting to my room in embarrassment. I loved my aristocracy. It has been a long running thing in my family for a long time.
Although mine is stronger than anyone's has ever has been. My father, his mother, and everyone before them who had this power could only teleport about one hundred metres. I can go up to two kilometres, if I concentrate.
However, once again, Kyo and Takara have their own perfect powers. Takara can move things with her mind and Kyo can manipulate this weird blue mana stuff. It sort of reminds me of electricity without the voltage.
I collected my books and things, before leaving my room again. Everyone had assembled in front of the doors, including Kaname. I tried to stay out of his view and spot my best friend Hebira. It took a while, but I finally spotted the blonde standing beside Rima.
I tried to walk to her stealthily, but I accidental knocked someone over before landing on top of them. I found it to be Hanabusa. Roughly, he pushed me off of him and I jumped up before Kyo could rage at me, and ran to Hebira.
The commotion attracted attention, but not enough for Kaname to intervene. As the doors opened, I said nothing and neither did Hebira. We left the Moon Dorms, down the paths and towards the gates. The screams of the fangirls pierced our vampuric ears.
"I wish we could just eat them all," Hebira concluded. I rolled my eyes at her. "Perhaps Kaname-Sama and I could share that Cross girl together."
Unlikely.
I had forgotten about Hebira's excessive crush on Kaname. I immediately felt even worse about sleeping with him. The man my best friend loves.
The gates opened, and every began walking down the path. I tried to block the day class idiots out. Hanabusa smiled and flirted. Kyo acted like she didn't care, but from the way Takara watched her with caution, I'd assume it irks her to no end.
Yuki smiled and tried to talk to Kaname. When he spoke to her, he did something he never has before. He stared at the floor.
Anywhere but her. Guilt.
Yuki seemed to notice as well, but she attempted to forget, smiling and bowing to Takara and Takuma. Kyo spoke with Tori and Zero. Tori, we all thought seemed to pretty too be human, too adorable.
Her long red hair fell pin straight down her back. Her grey eyes shon with bashfulness. A shy girl who liked Senri Shiki more than any other. Zero I hated. Silver hair and purple eyes, perfect, but cold as ice.
Kyo seemed to like him though, a lot. Perhaps a little too much. The way she could make him smile made everyone wonder what sort of relationship they had. Especially Kaname, who watched them carefully, but not as carefully as Hanabusa, who would grind his fangs together with every smile.
Tori smiled and wave at me. I grinned and waved back, but Hebira merely ignored her. As the two of us walked passed Yuki, Hebira purposefuly shoved her shoulder into her. Yuki stumbled, everyone saw it.
"Hebira, that wasn't very nice." Kaname's voice chilled me, and I tried to duck away quickly, because I knew what would happened next. Something blue, the mana that Kyo controlled, discreetly wrapped around Hebira's ankle and tripped her.
This seemed to delight her, and anger Hebi. "O-Oh! Hebira-Senpai! Are you-"
Yuki reached down to help her, but Hebi shoved her hands away, standing up herself and brushing her uniform. "It's Geretsu-Senpai to you!"
This made most people laugh. Hebira Geretsu was not a nice name. Hebira meant Snake like, and Geretsu meant vulgar. Vulgar Snake.
"That's right Yuki, her name is Vulgar-Senpai," Kyo announced, making everyone, including the day class laugh. I could not help but smile, and Hebi did not noticed. Instead, she turned around and stormed back into the moon dorm.
"What about you, Maiko-san. Are you alright?" His voice made me want to vomit. I forced a smile up at Kaname and nodded.
He stared emotionless at me, before turning around, leading us into class. I noticed Kyo and Hanabusa stayed separate, so they must be fighting again.
In class as the sky darkened, I began to feel quite ill. Takara sat beside me, Takuma and Kyo in front. Every now and again Kara would send a weird glance my way, until eventually I had to ask her what was wrong.
"It's strange..." she began, and I gave her a questioning look. "I can hear a second heartbeat coming from you."
Of course, she had the sharpest hearing out of all of us.
Wait.
Two heartbeats?
I stared at her in fear for a long time, before I felt my stomach twisting nervously. I looked around frantically, and everyone seemed to be paying attention.
Except Kaname, who stared directly at me.
